"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts." -Bertrand Russell
This is such a good quote. Wise people are wise because they are critical to even their ideas and thoughts so it cause this uncertainty all the time (seeking for truth constantly and be wise to be able to change ideas as truth reached) fools and fanatics don’t have to bother you even think on something if it’s correct or not. Isn’t it easy and lazy just to believe but also calming, relaxing up to the point you don’t even care anymore. Critical thinking is too much work and what you get as a result ?? Never be sure about anything and constant unrest-fullness !! How big of a bliss is being ignorant
Imma have to disagree- wiser people just don’t speak in absolutes!! Real experts of any sort are very very careful about using clear, accurate, specialty-specific language, & in science especially, we always leave room for the possibility that we MIGHT be wrong. Because there could be something we are collectively missing, technology might come along to expose a factor that would turn our theory on its head, know matter how sure we are, we will never say “I can tell you that this is 100% true”, unfortunately this is exactly what bad faith actors cling onto push their bullshit- & nobody seems to question why the expert “isn’t sure” but the rando with an interest in the opposing view _is_ sure & it drives me absolutely crazy 😫
My favourite concpiracy theory comes from two old ladies I passed on the street. Lady 1: "So, my husband says that all this Corona thing started because Trump used a bioweapon on China. To weaken their economy, you know?" Lady 2: "Then why do the US have so much Corona?" Lady 1: "It's Trump, you really think he thought that far ahead?"
...Well... Generally speaking, if Trump is accusing someone of doing something, it's because he does/did it. So, with Trump accusing China of releasing it from a lab in Wuhan, maybe that's because that's what he did.
Crazy Alex Trebek died only a few months after this aired. I watched jeopardy every night with my grandma while we waited for my mom or dad to pick me up. I watched it every night since, even when my life was a dumpster fire, I always found a way to watch jeopardy. All of this to say, this got me in the feels and I wasn’t expecting to get choked up right now
Exactly what I think of whenever I’ve revisited this video over the last year or so. He was probably feeling fairly miserable by this point, but he still felt compelled enough to put in the effort to make a very important PSA. R.I.P. Alex T. 🥺

When I was a kid, my mum threw away the microwave because "microwaves use radiation to heat up food, and the radiation gets in your food AND THAT GIVES YOU CANCER!" We were only allowed to eat what the daily mail said cured cancer. It's hell having a mad parent
@@PhaZeUnleashed Microwaves don't use the same frequency of radiation that harm you. When we talk about radiation in science, there are several frequencies, the radiation used in a microwave produces heat :)
@@PhaZeUnleashed Radiation is simply a term for how things radiate. Light radiates so it's radiation. Heat radiates so it's radiation. Microwaves are not *ionizing* radiation so there's no chance of them causing cancer. They just excite the water molecules in your food which results in them heating up faster. That's it. Radiation does not mean "ionizing nuclear radiation" which is the bad stuff.

At one point I was hospitalized with what the emergency room initially thought was spinal meningitis which is very contagious. I was IMMEDIATELY told to put on a mask and not to take it off for anything, and then I was stuck in a room by myself just waiting until a doctor could see me. That was in 2011. It turned out I just had a hell of a mixed tension migraine but because I also have dysautonomia, my nervous system went bananas and gave me a fever of 104 which is why they thought I probably had meningitis. It's not like they were idiots, my body just does really strange things. The point is that I was immediately isolated from everyone in that hospital. I wasn't in line somewhere, or in a waiting room. I had to put on a mask and sit in what was essentially a broom closet by myself until specialists had time to give me a spinal tap and CT scan to make sure that I did not in fact have spinal meningitis. But this dude here thinks that people are just going to be waiting in a giant room? All together? Ok bud. Dumb as a rock. My apologies; rocks are clearly highly intelligent compared to that dude.
In 2012 I ended up in hospital severely dehydrated because of a stomach virus. Every nurse and doctor had to put on full PPE to enter my isolation room. Operation Paperclip, Operation Northwoods, Operation Mongoose, Operation Mockingbird, Operation Cyclone and Operation Midnight Climax involving Project MKULTRA are all you need to look up to know this video is full of shit. The term conspiracy theory was created by the CIA to make people avoid the truth. Key thing to remember is that both of our political parties are completely bought and owned by corporate interests and the military industrial complex. That's why we can't have universal healthcare in the middle of a pandemic during a Democrat presidency with a Democratic majority in Congress. I'm surprised he even got the troops out of Afghanistan after the media's fake nonsense over "women's rights". In all my 20 years of watching that war unfold I never heard the media voicing concern for women's rights in Saudi Arabia because in Saudi Arabia women are stoned to death for infidelity but they're one of our biggest allies so whatever right?
Like how 8 months ago the conspiracy was vaccine mandates. It was so bad that fauci and pelosi both said they cannot force vaccine mandates. Well I guess they changed their minds huh?
There's a discussion going on that you shouldn't call it conspiracy "theories" anymore and instead call it a conspiracy "mythos", because "theory" gives it the connotation of actual scientific theories that have been peer reviewed and published.
I don't know in my experience "conspiracy theory" already has a bad reputation, and people that follow them don't want to be called conspiracy theorists.
@@sagekinzey7303 no, 'hypothesis' is definitely not accurate. I think the most common belief is that a flat earth would proof that humans are special, or god's chosen, considering we'd be on the only planet that's flat, and the government doesn't want us to know that.
I watched a couple of videos by flat earthers that covered this. The theory they had was that it's to control the population, by brainwashing us to believe in everything scientists say. Apparently believing the Earth is round causes people to doubt the existence of God. This will make us all susceptible to trusting everything scientists say, without question, and will enable whatever evil powers are leading us astray to have total control over us. All I could think of was the minister's daughter I met once, who said 'Dinosaurs never existed. The devil put the fossils there to confuse us'. Yeah like science is more effective than religion at brainwashing people.

As someone who practices family medicine , I’ve had to encounter most of this nonsense . It really does come down to the majority of lay people do not know how to research , so they trust poor sources .
Even if they do know how to research, there is bias towards results and a inherent ability to intepret in favorable ways to what we already want to belive in. So not only do we need proper knowledge in critical thinking regarding sources of information, on how to filter that information, but also on how our own psyche works and how to counter act against those mind tricks. So yeah, it is hard to get it right.
@@MrEddie4679 Exactly. The psyche. No one is free from its biases. There is a growing theory amongst astronomers that a 9th planet (no not Pluto - not a planet) does exist, in very deep, elliptical orbit. There is quite a bit of indirect evidence of it, from how the other 8 planets ended up in their current configurations, to the behavior of small objects in the oort cloud. There is quite an effort in the astronomical community going on right now to "find" this planet (very difficult to spot due to it's assumed distance, size, & composition). But no, it's not on a collision course for earth nor is it inhabited by seagoing aliens with gnarly beards who are easily sunblinded & use laughably toy-ish artillery.

Gotta love Dunning-Kruger...
@@suziwolf4830 that isn't actually what dunning-kruger is about
In one sentence, this guy hits the nail on the head with a nuclear war head.
To weaken their economy, you know?"
Lady 2: "Then why do the US have so much Corona?"
Lady 1: "It's Trump, you really think he thought that far ahead?"
this is likely my favorite!!
...Well...
Generally speaking, if Trump is accusing someone of doing something, it's because he does/did it. So, with Trump accusing China of releasing it from a lab in Wuhan, maybe that's because that's what he did.

@@PhaZeUnleashed Radiation is simply a term for how things radiate. Light radiates so it's radiation. Heat radiates so it's radiation. I realy hope you weare a mask to protect your family
Why conspiracy theorists choose to ignore decades of contagious viruses and mask wearing and make it sound like covid only just introduced us to it is mind boggling
The man is a sub-brick

The term conspiracy theory was created by the CIA to make people avoid the truth. There's a discussion going on that you shouldn't call it conspiracy "theories" anymore and instead call it a conspiracy "mythos", because "theory" gives it the connotation of actual scientific theories that have been peer reviewed and published.
You’re right “conspiracy hypothesis,” is more accurate.
I don't know in my experience "conspiracy theory" already has a bad reputation, and people that follow them don't want to be called conspiracy theorists.

Question for flat-earthers: what is the assumed end game for scientists to promote a "conspiracy" around a spherical Earth?
To play ball
I think the most common belief is that a flat earth would proof that humans are special, or god's chosen, considering we'd be on the only planet that's flat, and the government doesn't want us to know that.
Usually to promote a cult of sun worshipers. No, I'm not joking. Heliocentrism.
Hmmmm… sounds like the lizard people got to you….

Living with psychologists, I know of different interpretations of the “conspiracy theorist” “mindset”, however, lately the discussion has moved to the less explained phenomena of the conspiracy denier.

The dude's wife never came off the ventilator. She ended up passing away right after this aired. It's sad because from time to time we have all had stupid beliefs it's just that this level of consequence is not something that we usually see within our lifetimes.
It really is sad that sometimes people refuse to believe something is serious until if affects them personally. Sure, there’s a lot of squeaky wheels in our country (on the whole planet really), but when half a million Americans are dying (almost as many Americans that died in our Civil War) you’d hope people would wake up sooner. It’s a sad fact.

You should be angry. The Public Health schools promoted ventilators in a response plan offered in 2007. Ignored totally the use of non invasive treatments such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy. See Winthrop hospital clinical trial for those patients with symptoms of covid 19 hypoxia. See study at Underseas Hyperbaric Medicine. That said, I don't take unlicensed and unauthorized vaccines from anyone. That's just asking for being a guinea pig and not getting paid for it. Oh, and as for another wrench to throw, go look at Microbiology and Infectious Disease January 2021 report on Covid-19 and risk of Prion disease. You do know that has no known cure.

My stepmother has a great quote about conspiracy theorists: "it's adorable how much faith they have in the government's management skills".
For context, she's a project manager for a logistics firm, so she has first-hand experience in how much of a pain in the ass it is to coordinate large groups of people to do anything, much less keep their activities secret.
That is what I have heard about the moon landings being a fake. People have said, "Anyone who thinks that this can be arranged has never been a project manager." --- I would like to add, if you think tens of thousands of people can keep a secret for 50 years, you're clueless.
