Ah yes, playing a scale up and down as a solo, my kind of music!
I mean if you're in key then the scale can only ascend or descend...? Unless you like only played one note ig lol.
@@spreadwuvokay You can play arpeggios, drone a note, use diads...
@@nates2 He did use arpeggios? Also how is playing a single note in a scale better than not playing ascending or descending? Also diads? Those don't always have their place in a solo. I don't know man I feel like you just don't have a very good point
he was trying to show the difference between the scales, of course it's gonna be entirely conjunct
You're acting like he did scale runs exclusively (which are in fact very common in many genres of music)
wait till he hears about the major pentatonic scale
🤣🤣🤣
…It’s their ship name
@@Sophie_Ferris THEY FUCKING???
major and minor pentatonic are the same i think
the reason is because the very note that makes the scale either major or minor is removed to make a pentatonic scale because it's impossible to make a dissonant sound using just those very 5 notes.
@@asmallguy6124 what? That’s not true, the 3rd is included in the pentatonic scale which indicates whether it’s minor or major
No one could get that good only knowing the pentatonic scale lmao
Yes they could

Do it, one shape and you can solo and jam for hours
@@AtlanticSilkShake i will eventually lol
Same and I can play in any key... self taught as well... shame on you for not learning!!! XD
For me it clicked in the 2nd year of playing and it just kept on getting better and better.
Coming up on 6 and I still haven’t learnt any scales.
Edit: I do know how to solo, I did learn the pentatonic, but I never think I’m scales while I play. I use other notes than the ones included in the pentatonic, I just never know what scale they’re from.
I just know when something sounds and feels right.
Learn both major and pentatonic. It’s easy to memorize and they each have multiple different modes making it easy to solo on the whole guitar!
Pentatonic scale: WHAT ARE YOU
Major Scale: I'm you, with slightly more notes
Exactly
"What the cinnamon toast f£*# was that" is probably what my guitar would say soon
And that is my new line for work when someone does something dumb
😂😂
😂
Major scale : i got more notes to play and fill the gap at minimal effort 😎

@@LuisRodriguez-yi1bu I don't really know if he's saying anything in this video
Works better on a classical guitar
@@LuisRodriguez-yi1bu not at all bro. They are two different scales
Both sound amazing if used properly
Pentatonic scale is major without some notes 😀
Basically
Are they intentionally Not use those notes?
Major scale without the 4th and the 7th
some notes: 2 notes. The ones that can screw your solo if you use them wrong
Not the pentatonic minor
I only play the heptatonic scale. It's like a pentatonic maj, but I include a maj2 and maj7. It's super unique.
I know no music theory but that surely sounds like a major scale lol
That's just a major scale with no 6th
It is. I play it too.
I do that on minor, basically the penta with the 9th. I also like the sound of the minor penta overlapping the dorian (in Em it would be e f# g a a# b c# d)
Why does switching between the major and pentatonic sound so good?
Right
Because they're the same scale. The pentatonic has the 4th and 7th notes missing
honestly for the most part its not about the scales you know but how you use them
if you know all najor scales and dont make music with them, something is wrong...
its more about the chord structure under than the scale and what you decide will fit and sound unique to yourself over it.
That middle finger pushup on the glasses was a nice touch lmao
"Well fucking good for you"made me laugh🤣
“You are less than smart”
Bro, if that’s your sales pitch, I’m gonna have to pass😂
real
If I was the sales manager, I’d figure out a way to get him fired lmao
Hes just coping from other successful players that are the original at this. He should be more original.
To me, the pentatonic scale sounds more psychedelic or bluesy, whereas the major scale sounds more like metal. This probably reflects usage in different genres of the different scales for soloing, I’d imagine.
Well yes if you play your major scale in phrygian position it will sound metal af that’s for sure
This is my first time checking out this channel due to TH-cam recommendation. This video was awesome and made me laugh out loud. I loved it. Not only was it very funny, with great dialogue, but the guitar playing was epic. Thank you, I really enjoyed it and just became a subscriber.

I was not expecting to be blessed with “what in the cinnamon toast fuck was that” today, but im glad it happened
both of them together is the best
Subscribed. After i properly learned my modes I've never gone back to pentatonics. 🤘
As a pentatonic player, I actually liked the major scale. Reminds me more of Brian May.
It's quite interesting that the major scale reminds you of Brian...
Almost like rock guitarists try to avoid the major scale for some reason. Pentatonic is always preferred and I don't understand why.
Pentatonic is just a stripped down major scale
@@SealedKiller We do. I just started learning my major scales the other month. It's a lot of fun, but for more relaxed shredding and cool tricks, the pentatonic scales work better. For real musical sounding melodies the major scale is definitely the better one.
@@4seiken-594 do you play guitar?
@@4seiken-594 That's how I think of it as well.
We need a combination of both plus minor and Dorian to make a good solo
lil phrygian and we’re really cookin
Correct but it is relative to tempo/melody/accent /pauses etc and often less is more when played with expression and dynamics ,the emphasis on speed and or modes of scales is only part of the whole and that is besides leaving 'sound 'out of it etc, both of these type of scales are also limited by your instruments ,or not.
Well like fuckin good for you bro""" killed me. 😂😂
I love ur music man
Bro doesn't get enough credit for how good he is. would love a sit down with him and Mateus Asato
"I only use the Pentatonic Scale!" - Every Boomer guitarist in a Nutshell
Well, at least their pop music was based on more than one chord progression.
Ya cause boomer guitarists suck😂😂😂
@@Markus-ih4gt fact so many songs these days are four chord vamps
Acctaly boomers used the major scale. 80/90 metal heads used the pentatonic scale
They both have their uses. Great for whatever you wish to do and personal preference
That’s great!!
These skits always give me Scott Pilgrim Vibes for some reason
This skit has so much Letterkenny energy I swear
Bro ONG
Awesome bro!
Haha that's awesome. Thank you
Meanwhile the sad guy playing the minor scale in his bedroom
Good to mix em just like this. Get off the cigarettes!!
That was awesome
Lesson learned THEIR BOTH FUCKING AWESOME
I ONLY USE PENTATONIC: plays major pentatonic
Major scale is just pentatonic with more notes in it, more freedom more fun to shred with, knowing a bunch of modes is actually super fun and can make for more expressive playing, and sounds super melodic which I love
Minor scale: you didn't have to cut me off
They are different, but i dont find one better than the other.
I actually love this alternation between major and major pentatonic as musical contrast. Awesone duet!!
I've really started to think of the pentatonic scale as the "foundation" that you build off of to make all other scales. It doesn't mess too much with the "boxes" that you've built your muscle memory on, but allows you to quickly alter your sound.
I haven’t watched a short yet, that hasn’t made cringe to death.
Great video
For real, it felt like more effort was put into the pentatonic parts than the major
I literally almost passed out after “what the cinnamon toast fuhk was that ”
I use to major scale run as a intro to my major Pentatonic solo
Gotta praise the mother of all scales.
Seems to me that the easiest way to understand and play different modes and scales it's not to memorize all the different ways you can use the known shapes. But to visualize the Major Scale firstly by intervals.
This way you can switch easily to any mode and scale you want to play by making the necessary simple adaptations, and then build the shapes (or not) from that. This way you might also better develop your understanding of the different sounds that different intervals produce, wich might make your playing sounds more creative and less "shape oriented" (where you just go up and down in well know limited patterns or boxes of a number of modes), and therefore making even the Major scale interesting to hear.
Even simpler, just think of it as starting and ending on a different note but still playing the same major scale.
The major scale is key to music!
Lets say you wanna play in phrygian mode over an F#m chord, well you just play the D major scale and make sure to hit chord tones and the root!
The beginning of this has been stuck in my head for days.
For the first time since December, 52 Week Guitar Player is officially re-open for enrollment. I'm looking to help 90 guitar players improvise anywhere on the neck in any key over the next 12-24 months. Enrollment will CLOSE ON MARCH 31.
Time is ticking. Once the program is closed again it will remain closed for another few months. You could use that time to advance as a player or continue fookin around.
Get structure, practice routines, feedback, accountability, and live interaction with pros. Check out this video for more information: @t

What in the cinnamon toast was that 🤣🤣🤣👌🏼
The major scale rocks - alter one interval you got harmonic minor (raise the fifth a ST and start from the 6th), alter another (flatten the third) and you got the real melodic minor.
Turn there's modes ooooh lol.
I know he is taking the piss and showing how great Pentatonics can be when used artfully - Shawn Lane and Eric Johnson being perfect examples.
This makes feel like even more of a nerd by knowing my modes and a bunch of other scales

Well i have absolutelly no idea what is the difference between scales, and i cant play nothing, but it sounded great, both of them.
this guy is an example of where a lot of dedication and zero creativity or originality can get you
I love how i can predict both scales
love those expressions

"What the Cinnamon toast f@$#!" - The Pentatonic Scale
For those who don't know, you can actually go from pentatonic to major easily by starting your major scale on the flat third of the pentatonic scale. This is a great why to make your improviseing more interesting. It also sounds really good with a flat 7. There is obviously more to it than just that but this is all I can really say in one comment. I encourage any guitarist to loom into this of you havent already.
There both amazing
When you’re new so you don’t know what any of this means
Wooaahhh that is an excellent guitar riffss🤗🤟🤟🤟☝️👍👏👏👏
I love that the guy with the nerdy glasses calls the other guy, who seems cool a nerd. 😂
That's pretty funny and educational seeing how the pentatonic and the major scale work well together
The mid finder when pushing up the glasses nice work
Both great
Dude has awesome skits sarcasm at it’s best
Made me smile.
Using them both in a solo sounds best
Pentatonic has no "tensioned notes" which makes it extremely easy you just need to time the notes, i mean ei i like the pentatonic scale alot
Such clean, so wow
I enjoy the content fish keep it up
both r pretty good
“What in the cinnamon toast fuck was that?”

Learn, in combination with even and odd time signatures, the different kinds of scales. Root and chord tones on down beats, color notes on upbeats.
1/4 : Chromatic scale
2/4: Two note intervals
3/4: Triads
4/4: Tetrachords
5/4: Pentatonic Scales
6/4: Hexatonic Scales
7/4: Heptatonic Scales
8/4: Bebop Scales
9/4: Nonatonic Scales
10/4: Decatonic Scales
11/4: Eleventonic (?) Scales
12/4: Dodecatonic Scales
To my ears this time the major scale sounded more like an exercise vs the pentatonic sounds more melodious.
