    To stop light bleeds, I can highly recommend alluminium tape, either the one used by plumbers, or the one used for underfloor insulation :)

      I was going to recommend some black electrical tape, but either one will work better then just paint.

      Hi as the others have stated when wanting to stop light bleeds in laser fire action the best blackening tool is black ELECTRIC TAPE, best wishes with those custom builds👍

      I was going to suggest aluminium foil. As electrical tape degrades over time.

      I often use a plastic tube that fit the LED and then put black heat-shrink tubing around it, no light gets through that :-)

    Another AWESOME custom, Dave!
    I absolutely love Buck Rogers! My best friend and I tried to show my wife and kids an episode the other night. They did not appreciate it at all. Oh well... there’s no accounting for taste. Thanks for the video!

      Unfortunately it’s really difficult to show younger generations anything that’s dated. They have a hard time getting past any dated aspects to a tv show or movie. Growing up I loved the 1980 Live Action Flash Gordon movie with Same Jones. Needless to say when I tried to play that film for my young nephew, he couldn’t get past the special effects which is a shame. Tv Shows like Buck Rogers, Battlestar Galactica, and movies like Flash Gordon all have a certain charm to them but these younger children and teens have been spoiled by all of the modern day special effects to the point where they can’t appreciate anything else.

    Thank you Dave. I am always learning something new from your videos. The paint on 3d printed parts make the surface flat. Good to know. Hopefully you‘ll get your supplies and parts to the UK because the new customs regulations after the brexit could have some impact. Keep up the good work. Stay healthy.

    If you thin automotive spot putty with alcohol you can brush it onto 3d printed parts. It fills the build lines nicely and is relatively easy to sand.

    I've seen people paint the back of silver foil black on one side so it reflects the light in, maybe a silver foil flap to cover the bleed?

  • @eacrowell2543
    @eacrowell2543 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great stuff! Question, why didn’t you just paint the whole model that bone color? Seems like that would fix all the light bleed issues and look like the filming miniature too. Just a thought. Keep these great videos coming! 👍

  • @kkouuy
    @kkouuy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    In regards to painting those nose cone pieces, if you ever get the chance to repair another starfighter could I recommend Games Workshop Wraithbone spray? From my eyes it seems like a closer match? The spray version of Wraithbone is paler than the regular bottled version for whatever reason, it is it's own colour really

  • @TheAquabears
    @TheAquabears 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Should have mixed up a large batch of paint and done the whole thing, to get the color even across the whole ship. Not only would that have saved you from trying to color match bits against other bits, it would have helped with light blocking. The plastic they used is somewhat translucent.

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d rather leave the ship as it’s natural plastic finish as I feel it looks better. So just wanted to paint the least amount possible.

    It looks awesome 😲 I know it’s a bit much but do you think sounds can integrated? I know they sell kits to make remote control vehicles and some have this devices to play sounds, I wonder if it could be done 🤔 I’ve been wanting to try and make an old style laser pistol with sounds

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m sure you could. For me it’s just lights as the sounds would get too annoying.

    When I was like 6 or 7yrs old SW “a new hope” had just come out and I desperately wanted the Kenner toys, that Christmas I asked my parents for just Star Wars toys. Now I’m not sure if the Buck Rogers toys were cheaper or my parents just didn’t know the difference but I got all Buck Rogers toys and no SW, didn’t like Buck Rogers show, had zero interest in the toys, needless to say I was a very unhappy child that Christmas.
