"It's not your fault, you were texting" lmao. Yet another informative, yet hilarious video. Keep up the good work! I love saving your tours and showing my better half all the ones I'd like!
We have a 2019 2509S and added a trailer tongue tray with a generator strapped to it. Been towing it with a 2020 Ram Eco-Diesel half-ton and it tows like a dream. We've taken this cross-country (7000+ mile trips) several times now with no issues.
We have a 2020 2509S and tow with a 2020 Silverado 1500 LTZ Duramax. We also use a Equilizer 4 WDH. Very easy to tow, well planted and stable. From Ohio, we spend many camping trips in Northern MI (and UP), out to DC, down to Hilton Head, and Florida. With 2 Labs and a tall 14 yr old (our oldest is 19) it is still a great camper. Already a trip planned to MI for the summer. God willing, this camper will be taken Calgery in 2027!
We downsized from a 40 foot Tiffin to this Rockwood and consider it perfect for the two of us and our two medium size dogs. The bed can be a little tight with the four of us sleeping, but that is only a few hours a day. Put the bed up and we have tons of room for everyone between the couch and the dinette. With the amount of storage with the two bunk beds, we can carry any extra clothes we need when traveling for two months at a time and don’t miss the old 40 footer. You are correct about road mode, but we have stopped, put the slide out to get to the bathroom and then back without any issues. We purchased our 2509s in January and went from Virginia to Florida on our first trip, no problems for the three weeks we were gone. Since then, up to the Canadian Maritimes for nine weeks, three trips around Virginia and North Carolina, and then out to New Mexico and back through Texas, another eight weeks. We started with a RAM half ton and it was fine, but traded for a new 3/4 ton before the trip out west and you could tell the difference. Again, we are so much happier with the 2509s then we were with the Tiffin, no complaints with the diesel pusher, just didn’t need all that space, the 2509s gives us all the space we need.
Bonus to a trailer is you pull the trailer, park it, and you still have a vehicle to explore the area instead of parking the motorhome, and then you are pretty much stuck unless you tow a car/jeep behind.
Just bought this model. Like it’s not there on my 3/4 F250 but def would tow with a half ton. Been watching u for years even when we were not trailer owners, now we r on out 4th haha. Love Rockwood best bang for ur buck! We have older kids that prob won’t camp with us but the bunks r great just in case and for the storage.
I DO love this one! I love it just exactly the way it is! I hope someone has one at the Dallas RV show next month. I would love to see it in person! Thanks for the full length ( and short) tours!
I really appreciate the way you show us the closed slide version and the good the bad and the attention to details that I would probably have overlooked. Thank You.
This is one of my favorite models. 3 wish list items... 1) add 1 ft in length so bed can stay down in road mode and make way to get around island. 2) With extra foot, add more grey capacity to match fresh 3) With all exterior storage not truly separated from the interior, add a one of those under belly metal cabinets for sewer accessories to keep separate from other stuff and to keep smells away.
I was thinking the extra length may allow more counter on side and less peninsula, giving just enough to squeeze thru without sacrificing counter square footage.
Thanks nerd! Really appreciate how thorough your videos are. It shows that you have the customers needs in mind and helps us make choices that we will have the best chance of being happy w. You asking for and sharing customer feedback back also helps manufacturers fine tune what will sell best… everybody wins!
Solo campers, couples, and even families should love this layout since Rockwood offers a residential theater seating “option” for the diner booth dinette that allows 2-5 people to sit comfortably and visit, read, or watch a movie on a cold rainy day or night👍👍👍
I really appreciate all the details you featured in this/Rockford. Love that Murphy bed which I was formerly wa a definite a NO on seems so easy that now I’m a bit conflicted 😂😂
We have the 2022 model (in the dark interior colours) and love it for our 4-person family! Saying that, if it was just my wife and I, it wouldn’t be our pick. There are other Rockwood models that would fit our needs/wants better. My feet hang over the end of the bed, but I don’t mind. Wish we had those slam latches and separate bunk curtains. I do prefer our double sink over this large one. The oven should be optional. We tow with an F150 and a WDH. It is a heavy tongue once loaded. Add in the family and truck cargo, and you might be exceeding the payload of your half-ton.
Hey Josh, just a note to let you know. I love the tub. When you have a small furry friend and they need a bath, it is so nice to have a tub with the water miser; but no one such as yourself ever mentions it. Doesn't everyone take their pet camping? Like I thought that net across at the bunks is great for your cat to have kitty litter, my cat would slip in the side and slip back out when she's done. And my dog knows he can't go in there. just a little fyi for your day.
This is the closest to perfect for my wife and I right now. Just not sure when I have the money to get my next trailer I will be able to afford it. It will be a couple of years, so maybe I'll be able to pick up a decent used one.
Bought this model brand new in the end of 2020, so a 2021 model and still love it!! I always keep my out for new bunk models (it’s a sickness, I know…hahaha) but still can’t find one I like better. It gets plenty of use by us and our two boys, and don’t plan on trading it in anytime soon. Definitely one of the best bunk models out there…the only one that could tempt me is the new alliance delta bunk models.
Love our '24 2509s. The new fridge and larger couch windows are interesting on the '25. One miss on this model is the camp kitchen door. The magnetic holders need to be bigger or the door needs to be on a strut system. If the bottom bunk window is open you're holding the door with your head :) the slide side under couch storage door is the same way. We tow with a '20 Ram 1500 gas, does great but 8 mpg kind of sucks. Keep up the good work nerd! *** Oh, and they need to round the edges on the rail where the removable counter and griddle mount. 10 staples to the head from it this weekend. Ouch!
No Murphy beds for us. There needs to be a separate bed, in a room with a door. Sometimes you just need the lights off and a quiet dark room. Funny you should mention the statistics about couples buying bunkhouse models. We bought a 2022 Rockwood 2911BS bunkhouse for just us. Rockwood has the good sense to put cargo doors on a lot if their BH models and I use it for storing our full size ebikes on travel days. During the week it's an office and on the weekends it's a guest room. We love our Rockwood Travel Trailer! You won't regret buying a Rockwood!
We have a 2023 with the Power Package. I have weighed at a Cat Scale with the trailer loaded as we use and with full fresh water. The tongue weight was 1,100 lbs. I opted for a 3/4 ton because even the dry tongue weight is a lot. I’m glad I did. Even with 3400 lb payload in my 3/4 ton that tongue weight is noticeable while driving. I’m very glad I have the 3/4 ton truck.
Yeah a lot of half-tons would still handle that hitch weight for couple's use but with the extra body weight from a family in the truck it can get dicey faster Still - some half-tons have very limiting payload ratings and this would put you in the red. Love the real world feedbck
Well Uncle Josh, I love your videos and how you show the bad with the good. This is a trailer I think would fit me well. Since I am not a giant like you…lol. I love the Murphy bed and the bunk set up(extra storage). Though I am glad for the black out shade up front as sometimes places where I dry camp Bigfoot roams around and would hate to wake with him peaking in…😂 Need more of these at your western stores as well as the Flagstaff’s. Great job and keep showing us everything and keeping us informed 👍👍
@@JoshtheRVNerd so sad you do not. I think they would sell well here in the northwest. We enjoy a lot of boon dock camping. Especially during the various hunting seasons. Thank you for your response.
Checks a lot of boxes but don’t like the hot water heater location and the closets on each side of the bed seem hard to reach. Overall a nice unit though.
The key is the Murphy Bed. They have become so good that the come down ready to sleep almost but during the day they are gone AND you have a decent couch and now moving toward Comfy chairs. It would be interesting to see some sliding "harder" break than a drape system between the Murphy bed area and the rest of the trailer at night for privacy but that isn't a big issue for many. AND, you would likely have to add 9 inches to a foot to the length I'm thinking. But I've seen these one foot section sliding doors that all fold up on themselves so you you have a one foot extension from each wall or one potentially and depending upon materials uses a foot wide. You see examples some cruise ships now, patio living rooms on the ocean views. Food for thought. That way you even could have nighttime a bit of privacy. But overall, a good Murphy bed set up can do exactly what you describe OR even going shorter and without a slide give you enough space to put 40/41 inch bunks in a 21 22 footer. I think there is one or two of those out there WITHOUT a slide. Having had the short bunk with a fixed bed even sideways before the dance inside between adults dogs and/or kids can be a strong incentive for looking for something bigger. But after going in one with a decent Murphy bed, no slide and 40 inch bunks, I was like, this is a lot better.
We just hit up the Columbus OH RV show yesterday. Funny, we didn't go into it expecting to be most impressed with forest river products the most, but we were. Funny you posted this exact model today that checks pretty much all our boxes. Only thing I would like to see is the same "idea" but slightly shorter and lighter, but I'm not sure that's going to be possible without a sacrifice.
That's the thing -- judging all forest river products the same because they say "Forest river" is a mistake in my view. It would be like looking poorly at a Cadillac because GM also made Saturns They're all totally different products
I absolutely love this floor plan. We currently have a Murphy bed and I wish it were more like this one. Is it possible to order the couch underneath the Murphy bed to use in a different camper if we were to want to change our own out? Not in the market for a new camper quite yet, but this will definitely be added to our list.
We could get just that sofa from the manufacturer, but typically the packaging and freight is extremely expensive on stuff like that. Sometimes we can work out a deal where we have them, put the extra sofa loose in another trailer that shipping to our store, but that’s sort of opportunity dependent
I had a 2014 model here in nz, Murphy bed was great .don't see them much. This has a few differences but the lighter wood and Xtra front window would have been great. Excellent model.
1) while you had demonstrated that getting around the bed may not be ideal, those nightstands make the unit CPAP compliant as hoses are generally long enough to reach your face so I can give it a pass. 2) So how many hours of use would you get out of those 30# LP tanks? And while it would add a bunch more hit hitch weight, could one place 40# tanks on there to allow for more boon-docking? 3) So the max solar one can have is the two panels only on the roof and whatever you plug in correct?
1.) Yeah everything is a give and a get 2.) Unanswerable question. Apologies. Depends on use. I barely touch propane. Some people burn thru it. 3.) Max solar is the "power package" rockwood offers. It's a whole bundle of stuff available on this model ► 460AH Single Mastervolt MLI Lithium-Ion Battery w/Safety Disconnect ► 3KW (3000 WATTS)/160A Inverter/Charger Mastervolt Combimaster ► Five (5) 200W Solar Panels to Maintain/Charge Battery Bank ► 13,500 BTU Soft Start Power Saver A/C ► 5" Mastervolt Touchscreen Smart Remote ► Side Solar Plug in Standard for Portable Solar Option (Offered on Select Models)
Thanks I really appreciate your videos especially when you sit on the toilet and get in the shower. Sorry that sounds a little weird, but is really important information for us in Considering RV. That you don't make me wait while you open and close every drawer is great too. All open together is fine with just pointing out exceptional features is appreciated. Love the information about the build as well. Did Rockwood put tie downs of anykind in the space under the bunk bed ? What is with the inside of the door on the camp kitchen refrigerator ? Thanks
I still think the 2509S is the king of its class. Some others have some cool features, but nobody has everything that the 2509 has. My two little nitpicks though are the countertop extension should be level with the actual countertop, and the bathroom door needs to be a bit bigger so it’s not a peek-a-boo I smell you door. Other than that, I can’t think of anything don’t like about it.
At 6’6” tall I would appreciate the ceiling height as part of your specs overlay. You usually mention it in most of your videos which is great. None of the manufacturers give this information for some reason.
I include it any time the ceiling has a consistent height. Barreled ceilings do not. A lot of places tell you the tallest measurement but that doesn't help you in a shower This is a 6'6" sidewall with a 2.5" barrel
I have a 2017 Ram hemi I’m looking at this model and I’m hoping with a good weight distribution hitch I can tow this safety. I looked up my max towing weight and it’s 8,000lb
If you are crafty or at least can use a sewing machine and an electric carving knife, you could create the effect of a second pillow over the shelf at the head of the bed. Get some foam and cut to the desired shape. Make a removable cover for the foam and a couple of slip-on "pilow" cases. BTW, if your ice cream is a little hard to use a spoon without bending it, use a fork. WTF? The tangs easily break up the ice cream without worrying about bending or breaking the spoon. Before you comment on the idea, try it.
I would assume you are not offending any Wiccans or Voo-doo-ers, because you've been known for quite some time to say that line. If there was ever offense, you'd have 'known 'it by now. You'd be afflicted with a third eye or caught up in a Murphy bed. I really like the Rockwoods. They always have such a great look and the little extras you want. This is one to consider, as it has features to fit how we would use the camper.
In terms of true tongue weight, after loading the pass thru with gear and stuff, two 6 volt batteries, both 30lb propane tanks filled, with the water tanks empty, my 2021 2509s has almost 1,000lbs of tongue weight according to my tongue weight scale. There isn't really much storage space to shift that weight behind the axle very easily. Even the under the dinette storage is right on the axle for the most part. So most everything you store in it will impact your tongue weight accordingly. Keep that in mind when choosing your tow vehicle.
A true queen murphy bed would offer an adult sized mattress combined with a comfortable place to sit on a rainy weekend, when sitting in a wet chair by the campfire starts to get old😂
While there are other builders that make similar floor plans, I’m not aware of a single one that includes both a tandem axle AND a torsion suspension-only Rockstaff!
@@JoshtheRVNerd, yes sir--I stand corrected. Unfortunately, at least to the best of my knowledge so please do correct me if I'm mistaken again, but I don't believe either Bullet or Passport use Azdel (or any composite competitor) in their walls or ceiling (just their hyperdeck flooring). I blame you for my limited knowledge, as I'm now stuck on only considering travel trailers that have tandem axles, torsion (or comparable--not just leaf springs with an upgraded equalizer, but maybe/possibly leaf springs + an upgraded aftermarket equalizer + shocks and/or coils--doesn't have to be Curt, but something much better than just standard leaf springs + an upgraded equalizer) and some sort of composite wall construction (doesn't have to be Azdel as I think FlagRock has ditched Azdel for a less expensive competitor, which is fine with me). Let me know if you think I'm heading in the wrong direction as I trust your judgment--thx.
I want to reverse the question ;) - is a F-150 Powerboost a good truck for a trailer like this? 1639lbs max capacity (load&passengers), front GAWR 3,750 lbs, rear GAWR 4,150 lbs I am looking for a truck that can serve as a daily driver for a very short commute, but can also tow something like this.
@@JoshtheRVNerd I guess, me a fishing buddy, an inflatable boat and an outboard motor..... btw the floorplan I like most is the APEX 256BHS, not sure where to get that one on the west coast, but I got a plan now ;)
She's really nice 🙂👍🏽 I like it and the features. BUT I need camp side windows and especially if I'm not getting camp side dining. The TV location is not good enough. And I can't have anything less than a true queen. I'm not a big fan of this color decor. The laminates seem outdated.
I really love Rockwood's, especially how they are built. But they are definitely starting to look dated/stale on the inside compared to others, and they really need to use larger windows.
I will add my thoughts, to help with the you tube algorithms. :) I would NEVER buy an RV with a short bed. My feet would hang off the end, and I'm only 5'10" tall. Ever notice how you lose height the older you get? lol
Lost me at bunkhouse. I feel that for me it's a waste of space. It is likely a nice piece but we don't camp with kids any longer and except for sleeping or inclement weather, we are outside.
Those shelves at the head of beds are super annoying to me. Just give me a cubby and a longer mattress. Almost as annoying as tail on shrimp. Also hate U dinettes.

In 2014 murphy beds were a lot less common and only starting to catch on
1) while you had demonstrated that getting around the bed may not be ideal, those nightstands make the unit CPAP compliant as hoses are generally long enough to reach your face so I can give it a pass.
2) So how many hours of use would you get out of those 30# LP tanks? And while it would add a bunch more hit hitch weight, could one place 40# tanks on there to allow for more boon-docking?
3) So the max solar one can have is the two panels only on the roof and whatever you plug in correct?
1.) Yeah everything is a give and a get
2.) Unanswerable question. Apologies. Depends on use. I barely touch propane. Some people burn thru it.
3.) Max solar is the "power package" rockwood offers. It's a whole bundle of stuff available on this model
► 460AH Single Mastervolt MLI Lithium-Ion Battery w/Safety Disconnect
► 3KW (3000 WATTS)/160A Inverter/Charger Mastervolt Combimaster
► Five (5) 200W Solar Panels to Maintain/Charge Battery Bank
► 13,500 BTU Soft Start Power Saver A/C
► 5" Mastervolt Touchscreen Smart Remote
► Side Solar Plug in Standard for Portable Solar Option (Offered on Select Models)
You're awesome! Love it 😍
TY so much for the kindness :)
😂 president's watching... turns out that's not the case. 😂😂 definitely remember those awards
lolol :)
Nice....thank you!
Softer ice cream?!? You absolute monster! ;)
Of all the things I've ever said on camera _THIS_ is the breaking point lol
@JoshtheRVNerd The straw, my brother, the straw. 😉
Thanks
No that's exactly why I do it!
I cannot recall offhand but I think that bunk cargo area had 4 small tie downs.. I'd need to check
Tons of brands tried to copy this. Many have stopped trying to build it. They just couldnt match it
I have this model and tow it just fine with my 2018 Ram 1500 and 2 adults. Rockwood does get a -1 for their plumbing!
Where specifically does it fall short for you?
At 6’6” tall I would appreciate the ceiling height as part of your specs overlay. You usually mention it in most of your videos which is great. None of the manufacturers give this information for some reason.
I include it any time the ceiling has a consistent height. Barreled ceilings do not.
A lot of places tell you the tallest measurement but that doesn't help you in a shower
This is a 6'6" sidewall with a 2.5" barrel
Do you like this or the jay feather 21mbh better?
Is the plumbing pex#02 or 1?
Apologies I dont have any info as to which variety different builders use and don't want to just make up an answer
Thank you my fellow nerd!
👍🏻
Hi Josh, really hoping you will review the new 2025 Rockwood Mini Lite 2520bh in the near future?
I'm hunting for one! I like to get anything I can from Rockwood
I like it as a solo camper, but I'm tall, so that bed would be a bummer. Good for others though.
3:15 I triple dog dare you. Please 😂
I have a 2017 Ram hemi I’m looking at this model and I’m hoping with a good weight distribution hitch I can tow this safety. I looked up my max towing weight and it’s 8,000lb
I'd want to double check specs but at a quick glance that _sounds_ like a decent pairing
Nice for when we downsize😊
It’s a great option for a smaller family
Or for folks who want to turn the bunk space into something like ebike storage
The three step has the strut for lowering the step but the two step does not have the strut. I wished it did.
I'm willing to try whatever gives me more ice cream
Very cool TT. Now we do have Centramatic balancers on our Class A Newmar and they work really well. Get above about 25 and smooth as silk.
Man Newmar is the perfect example "you get what you pay for"
@@JoshtheRVNerd And we purchased from Bish's in Meridian ID, great price and service.
As to the fuse box location; IF the manufacturer(s) are doing their best then why would it matter?
I would assume you are not offending any Wiccans or Voo-doo-ers, because you've been known for quite some time to say that line. If there was ever offense, you'd have 'known 'it by now. You'd be afflicted with a third eye or caught up in a Murphy bed. I really like the Rockwoods. They always have such a great look and the little extras you want. This is one to consider, as it has features to fit how we would use the camper.
I don't know that I'm saying it in a derogatory fashion. And if I am, then I would ask a practitioner thereof to please correct me and advise
@@JoshtheRVNerd I'm sure you're fine. You'd already have a hex cast upon you if it were a problem. 👍
Excellent input spoken from experience. TY!
A true queen murphy bed would offer an adult sized mattress combined with a comfortable place to sit on a rainy weekend, when sitting in a wet chair by the campfire starts to get old😂
If the ceiling were taller then that would be possible. The old 2507s was a true queen but required a drop frame front to make the room
While there are other builders that make similar floor plans, I’m not aware of a single one that includes both a tandem axle AND a torsion suspension-only Rockstaff!
Bullet and Passport both do btw
1639lbs max capacity (load&passengers), front GAWR 3,750 lbs, rear GAWR 4,150 lbs
I am looking for a truck that can serve as a daily driver for a very short commute, but can also tow something like this.
It depends a bit on how you camp. Towing with full water and have a big family? It'll get tight
Otherwise you'll probably be fine
The mini lites often are forced into smaller windows due to the size. The larger members of the family start to pick up more wall space and windows
#Nerdherd! 🇨🇦
I took my dinet out and put a sofa in. I have a 2018
Nice!
My favorite TT that I'll never own. It's perfect, but I'm not buying a giant truck to tow it. NOT half ton towable.
The floorplan to rule all floorplans
☺
#RVNerdHerd 😊 🎉 😊

Y'all are the best RV Nerd on TH-cam
Well Ty
Top bunk needs more head room
$37,500. NOPE. Book value $25,000 as soon as you drive off the lot. IF you're lucky.
don't apologize for future problems when it comes to jokes:}, appropriate or not someone will chuckle!
good to know :)
So who the heck was Murphy anyways and how come there's a bed named after him?
And also a Law.. that Murphy guy really got around
@JoshtheRVNerd probably Eddie's doing.
🎉#NerdHerd
I will add my thoughts, to help with the you tube algorithms. :)
I would NEVER buy an RV with a short bed. My feet would hang off the end, and I'm only 5'10" tall.
Ever notice how you lose height the older you get? lol
Yeah that height loss is actually due to loss of bone density and a few other factors
Look for Blue Bunny soft at the grocery store. You'll thank me later!
challenge accepted
NO FIREPLACE!!!!
Lost me at bunkhouse.
I feel that for me it's a waste of space.
It is likely a nice piece but we don't camp with kids any longer and except for sleeping or inclement weather, we are outside.
Here's one without bunks th-cam.com/video/osQFnF1S41g/w-d-xo.html
Slides and bunks are an automatic Nope...
Those shelves at the head of beds are super annoying to me. Just give me a cubby and a longer mattress. Almost as annoying as tail on shrimp. Also hate U dinettes.
Longer mattress isn't possible here unless you were OK with it folding. The walls are 78" tall. A longer mattress would be 80". That just doesn't fit
I absolutely love this floor plan. We currently have a Murphy bed and I wish it were more like this one. Is it possible to order the couch underneath the Murphy bed to use in a different camper if we were to want to change our own out? Not in the market for a new camper quite yet, but this will definitely be added to our list.
