  • We'd lost the key to our Kubota RTV 400 and needed it that same day. The dealership was closed, so my dad assured me we could hotwire it to start. I didn't believe him at first, but sure enough he got it started in 5 minutes.
    Tools required:
    16 gauge wire
    Wire strippers
Electrical tape (optional, to hold in place)
    Time: 5 minutes

Its a whole lot easier to remove the connector from the key ignition and just run a new wire from the terminal marked "S" strait to the starter bypassing the solenoid, run another new wire from fuel pump positive wire straight to battery positive... That takes care of yur fuel and ignition/starter issues... Now to deal with any safety switch issues locate the engines coil and remove any wires that are on it....except the plug wire, Dig this, most safety switches on tractors or lawn mowers are wired into the coil and if not depressed will give the coil a "short to ground" and the coil cannot fire... thus, if your lawnmower one day decides it doesnt want to start, a good way to troubleshoot is to just open her up and remove the small wires from the coil and try it again and if it starts then you know one of yur safety switches are bad... You may ask why not leave the wire off who needs safety switches..because theres one drawback you wont be able to shut yur engine off cause the ground source is off of the coil but on my mowers i simply put a toggle swtch on that wire then put it back on the coil. That way i dont have to deal with the switches. Many people arent aware that by removing wire you disable ALL of the switches... And cant understand why their equipment wont start... Its the same as that electrical doo-dad on the bottom of the carburetor... its a fuel solenoid switch but not a fuel cut off switch like injector pumps have...its primary function is to avoid engine backfiring after you turn off the key...If it ever malfunctions just remove it from the carb and match a bolt with it and put in its place and omit the wiring... You cant simply unplug it because its what they call a "normally open" switch meaning in an un-powered state its circuit is open or dead.. but when powered a magnetic coil moves a pintle which blocks fuel from entering the carburetor bowl.. so yes the magnetic switch is powered as long as the key is on and when u turn the key off the pintle relys on a spring to push it back into the tiny fuel passage blocking the fuel.... Hope this might help someone

Shouldnt one of those 5 contacts already have 12v coming from the battery? Eliminating the need to run a wire from the battery?

i dont understand how the male and female side of the connector would BOTH be on the top right side. One would be on the top right, one would be on the top left.
