So many people asking stuff about the car trading topic. There’s so much more I could talk about. I might have to do more… Did you see the Abarth 595 video? Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/TUQ_LFcj798/w-d-xo.html
Ngl I fought this video was going to be one of them generic "how to make money" or "how to sell cars" video. But once again Calv you did it again and are actually giving advice from your personal experience! Top man!
Insurance company asked for a lot of money coz I have only 3 years no claim bonus . Is holding me back, one day I'll make it, thanks for your motivation 🙏
Thanks Calvin as somebody who started up in the game just before the lockdown came im struggling…..it’s very hard to keep my head Obove water…..some very good tips here, keep them coming mate love your vids….
Hey Calvin, really good insight into the motor trade. Particularly like the comment you made about “traders deserve to make a profit because they take the risk”. I’m not a motor trader but that really resonated with me. 👍🇬🇧
@@CalvinsCarDiary calv mate that video was top notch, would be good to hear about what happens when a car goes wrong and you have to fix it under warranty, how does a business swallow up say a £3k gearbox replacement etc or engine failure. plenty of traders out there who's warranty isnt worth the paper its printed on. im trying to see it from both sides.... on 1 side you have a customer with a warrantied car that has an issue, now that could be an expensive engine repair or faulty gearbox etc on the side of the trader its going to cost him alot of money to fix IF they dont try and wriggle out of it. then there is the chance that the customer could have done something wrong to the engine causing it to fail. sorry for the long question it kinda just popped into my head lol whats the most expensive warranty repair you have paid out for?
Great video 👍🏽 would love to see a video running through the things we need to know about selling a car, V5, how to create a sold as seen document, how we insure the car for a short period, should we transfer ownership of the car (does this add an another owner on the car?).
Love the video Calvin. Please do a video on car insurance for someone selling cars as a side hustle. E.g how can a guy without a business insure the cars so you can go out on test drives without annoying insurance company because you keep changing vehicles.
Hi Calvin ..Good job you have the car buying shop to generate stock. Auction prices at BCA and Manheim have gone nuts. Cars are going for well over CAP prices and in some cases at retail price. Great video ...
Very informative on the aspects discussed Calvin but one aspect you've left out is insurance. I've just got a quote on a part time traders policy. Based on 6 cars a year at a retail value of 2500 each (first time buyer cars) it would cost me nearly 2 grand for the policy so that means I would have to sell 3 to 4 cars just to get the money back for my policy. I can earn 100 quid a week extra doing 7 well 12 overtime on a Saturday morning (which would be time spent working on cars if I was to start buying and selling) I'm an hgv driver and a mechanic before that
Brilliant video mate! You may have a video on this, but could you make videos going into the process of some of these. As in, I want to buy Salvage vehicles or scrap, fix and then sell on. But the process of that?
Look to make some extra cash and I have a big interest in cars so I'm sure I will give the car trade a go even if I just buy one and flip for profit now and then great video calv
Best way to start with small then work way up. Now I have 6 cars 😜 japan import classic mini spi, subaru impreza, Nissan note, range rover, BMW 325 and vauxhall insignia to sell
Great video, thanks a lot, good actual real life tips coming from an extensive experience. I would add one question tho: you said at the beginning that( 2. Sourcing) one of the ways is to find a specific car for a customer. What to do or how to start in order to gain that trust in front of the customer, that trust that will make him come to you and not to other supplier of similar services?
You’re going to charge a lower price, maybe even just break even. At first this might be necessary to win people over because they could spend the same amount and go to a well known place and have a much more secure and pleasurable purchase.
I'm 22 and looking to starting buying and selling a small amount of cars. I looked into traders insurance so I can pick these cars up but for my age this is crazy money, do you have any advice on how to get around this? PS - Great Video and you honestly inspire me to do more.
Hi Calvin love the video keep it up mate, How much percentage would you charge on a sale on return method ? I have just started up my own so I would like to know what to be charging the client thanks
Interesting video Calvin. During this difficult time with covid and the economy very slowly coming up, the job market is terrible for graduates like myself. Places want experienced people but how do you get experience when starting out 🤦. Been thinking of doing other jobs / side hustles to hopefully top up my income
Calv is bang on. Money is in the buying. Stand it in wrong and you work for free. Standing in value SIV. Make a nice car for somebody. Make nothin on it. All in the buyin in right . Buy anything under price do nothing to it flip it money quick. Present it nicely. Make more. Buy it wrong present it well have zero profit. Buy em right. End of
Great insight into the traders side Calvin! How do you see the market going in next few as most manufactures move towards electric cars, end of petrol heads? 🥴
Maybe you should nail that statement about paying income tax. Yes, you can sell several personal cars each year without paying tax but they must have been solely for private use. ie taxed, insured, used by you and registered to YOU. The taxman won't accept you buying and selling half a dozen cars and not declaring a profit and trust me, you won't be grateful for a tax investigation, its horrible.
How would you go about moving the car with insurances and stuff like that if you only plan on doing a few cars here and there to supplement income? Or perhaps just starting out and can’t afford the relevant insurances? Not excepting you to see this Calvin but if anyone has any input it would be appreciated :) I’m seriously considering starting to trade cars.
How do you go about a car that is going up steadily but is 21 years old and had 5-6 owners ( in my eyes 3 year contract deals etc ) good history maybe a bit of tarting up do you buy it tart it up and move it or is it difficult 🤷🏻♂️
They are gonna stop the production of diesels and petrol car but the old ones will stay so idk it should stay pretty much similar, as some people will go and still buy a combustion engines car as there work requires it or they just like it. But yeah by that time the electric cars would be good, and they can just sell them used.
On a note I seen a new crafter don’t know what spec I was driving past a van Centre and they had a LWB Mid top up for 47k 😳 and you get the cheeky of some car owners open the door on you van and say “it’s just a van” wtf the van cost more than your car 😳 but a golf R van for me has to be a Man van 😎
Mention How To Advertise Your Car? What Platforms Are Great To Advertise On? How To Prep The Car? on your next video if you need ideas about what to film.
How do i buy a car without adding an ower to the car. Only 20 so dont want to go fully legit in terms of being a registerd company as insurance will cost a bomb and cant get traders insurance.
Put it in trade mate. Your company name could be “I MC cars” put that name on the yellow slip (or online) along with your current address then it’ll take it out of the customers name and put it in your name but as if you’re a trader. That way you won’t add a keeper to the V5 and you can use the green slip (V5c/2) to tax it if you need to.
The new thumbnail look tacky and don’t look good especially when they’re all gonna be the same. You should’ve just kept it as it was. If you start to change too much and don’t keep it as it was then people lose interest in it but those thumbnails just look like it’s branded!

Risk, overheads, responsibility, years of learning and pressure. If we’re earning money at long last, we deserve it.

This will blow up, great video bud, but a extremely stressful industry with some very silly customers
Thank you calvin
Great feedback Calv. Had a few thoughts about trading for a hobby as I don’t want the tax bill! You’ve given me more confidence now.

Great Video Cal, quick question, do you offer cars at trade price ? If not wheres the best places to look at? Thanks
Do a review on the red alfa you have just had in.
Not much content on these cars,
Very underrated cars.

You could go into financing for the dealer in future videos. I doubt once you start to get larger you pay cash for all that stock.

day insurance
With SOR how does a warranty work? Who covers any problems?
Typically it’s the trader as they are selling at a mark up (dealership price), which involves providing a warranty for that extra cost.
The thing is we’re to put the car and you need to get trade plates and do you have to have a certain insurance?
Corsa gear linkages, plastic balls and the new ones were metal….. makes you wonder if they done it on purpose
Hi Calvin, quick question - when you purchase a car as a dealer does it add an additional owner onto the v5?
No mate

You don’t have an actual choice other than trying to mug the seller to give you the logbook without transfer it on your name.
@@alexandrustefan9059 not much chance of that then lol
