      @@jetseverschuren A lot of cheaper consumer electronics are actually very hard to open, because it's way cheaper to glue or plasticweld everything together than to use screws. Which makes it a pain in the butt to repair them, a lot of them are impossible to fix.

    I was first introduced to this channel by a video where a "smart" lock could be completely disassembled while locked as long as you had a screwdriver with the right head and I thought it might be an outlier, or some out of touch electronics company trying a lock for the first time. A couple of years later and it's good to know that smart lock technology has improved to the point where you don't even need a scredriver, and any piece of metal will do.

      Almost certainly. Had it only had a small hole for an antenna then your one would be solid with no hole, but since it's wide open inside the shell of this one, I'd guess yours is the same, just with a little more unused space inside. This is an ease of assembly issue, it's cheap and easy to do it like this on a manned production line, it's just horribly insecure as a lock.

    • @shader26
      @shader26 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, locks like this I wouldn’t use for anything. One also has to match the lock to the application. For instance I’m going bolt down a plastic toolbox to the bed of my small utility trailer to keep the straps for strapping down a load in it, instead of in my car where they are not needed unless I am using the trailer. So I wouldn’t by this or any fingerprint lock, but rather a cheapo (have a number of them, for picking practice) small padlock, keep the key in the car because I’m only trying to deter someone just happening upon it from stealing the straps. If someone wants to cut the plastic or pry or whatever…ok. But I tried to research well on a padlock that is an extra lock on the little room my band practices in because that needs security.

      @thetechconspiracy2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A modern smartphone is designed to be as compact as possible, while fitting as much as possible (cameras, cooling for a powerful CPU, cell modems and antennas, etc.) into that size. Add in the fact that pretty much every major phone is designed to be waterproof, you end up requiring the device to be glued together, as there simply isn't any room for screw posts, and clips would fail to provide any sort of a watertight seal, in addition to likely causing the phone to completely fall apart if dropped, which will inevitably end up with parts being lost to the wind, rendering the device unusable.
      The product featured in this video was designed to be as cheap as possible, while providing the illusion of being a lock to lure in customers. Designing the product to be secure would cost more, both in terms of R&D (you need to have experts evaluate the design, as well as put actual effort into it), and in terms of production cost. It costs more money to use adhesive compared to moulding clips into the case, and since this product was designed to be as cheap as possible, any sort of adhesive (much less a quality adhesive that would actually deter an attacker) is out of the question. Same with a metal case to protect the internals, that will add cost to manufacturing, while not providing any benefit.

    This is truly a WTF lock. 45 Dollars?! This sort of nonsense marketing and design should be finable.
    Thank you for all the great work you do, and each amazing video revealing further the lack of interest in lock companies to actually make products with customer safety in mind.
