wow, that is some guitar to get your hands on... Ron Thorn is a cool guy. I saw him on Phillip McKnights channel where he got him to pick out his favourite Squire in a shop, He did and his review of it was interesting, he liked it! But he builds some amazing looking guitars absolute masterpieces, artwork.
Recently purchased a Telecaster copy. Did some minor upgrades to it and it plays beautifully. I was never a T-style player but now it's my go to after learning how versatile this instrument really is. Excellent vid. Thanks for sharing.

Nice tone. I watched a few of Ron Thorn's guitars on TH-cam, I have to say Ron Thorn is the best Fender's builder. He can make the tone of guitars so rich.
This is a very nice tribute to the original Blackguard Teles and it sounds and looks great, but it has two commonly omitted inaccuracies. These do not affect the sound or playability, they're just very small cosmetic things, but they're glaringly obvious to those who may know of them. On 1950-54 Broadcasters, Esquires and Telecasters, at least, and also afterwards for some years, while the neck tapers, of course, the neck pocket was cut square, and the router that formed the treble cutaway left a semi-circular indent at the body end of the route. As the neck itself tapers and the pocket does not, the result is in a small, but visible wedge on the treble side of the outside of the neck pocket in addition to the aforesaid router indent. These were later corrected by tapering the neck pocket to conform with the tapered neck and by eliminating the router mark, however, I don't know in what year these were corrected. Accordingly, as no reissue that I know about has these anomalies, genuine1950-54 Broadcasters, Esquires, and Telecasters , etc. can easily be spotted thereby. As with all other known Blackguard Tele, etc. re-issues, this tribute also appears to omit them. It's not a big deal, just a curiosity that Tele/Esquire fans who do not already know of this, and those seeking genuine original 1965-54 Teles, etc., might like to know.
I tried out a purple road-worn Tele at a Guitar Center and it was one of the best feeling guitars I’ve ever held. I didn’t even plug it in, but it simply felt perfect.
I've played a custom shop 56 Strat (not reliced) and it felt amazing but cost a huge amount of money. I have a "Made In Japan" Fender 50's Hybrid Telecaster in the same blonde with an ash body, 52 appointments and hardware (not in the same league as that beautiful guitar you're holding) but it looks the part, sounds great and I find the U profile neck comfortable too!
I purchased an inexpensive "Squire" telecaster, having never owned a Tele. I'm a double coil guy, but, it surprised me how good it was built, and the sound is very interesting. What a great guitar. That one looks like it's better than my $250 dollar one - heheheh.
Just bought a $300 Squier Jazzmaster, and the QC was better than my Gibson LP Classic I bought new. Literally couldn't find anything wrong with it. Perfect fretwork and setup.
@@blastofo That's great... I wish we could say that is surprising.... I bought a mid 2000s SG, and the thing was a mess. Not set up at all. Intonation way off. I don't have that guitar anymore. My main guitar is a Kiesel Alan Holdsworth H2. When that guitar came - perfect. I've never played a guitar - except a few Paul Reed smith guitars, that's set up so well.
I recently built a Tele kit, thinking it would sound like a twangy Strat…I couldn’t have been more wrong! “Interesting” is a good word for it. It’s very distinct…but I love it!
Uncle Jon! That bridge pickup is AMAZING. They wire these slightly hotter, but i think its something more as well. It'll be a dream to own one of these :)
Was this the Tele in the background on the previous video? Wow! I was not expecting this one, this is a serious guitar and nobody better than you to testing and reviewing it. What a wonderful sounds you got, my goodness! Your face said it all! 😁 Thank you Alex for letting Jon play this guitar for us 🙏
As always Jon, I love your balanced honesty. Generally I’m not a massive fan of this heavy aging. I own an Xotic relic tele and tbh as beautifully as it plays, I rarely play it. It doesn’t grab my imagination and sense of nostalgia. However, if it was a FENDER relic tele? I would probably think very differently. If I had the money, who knows? It’s also nice to know that as heavily relic’d as the Fender appears, it’s actually more visual than physical.
wow ! beautiful clean tones from that Tele? so crisp, and that subtle break up with the slightest of overdrive, cleaned up with the vol control, just superb👍🏼 just bought myself a 52 Tele, copy, same colours with the blackguard, but doesn't sound like that?
That baby is a "beauty"... in it's own way. The relic thing had me baffled until I heard one explanation on another channel. The guy said he had paid thousands for a custom shop "pristine" guitar, but once he got it he was afraid to wail on it. He claimed he just didn't play it the same way. With a relic, he felt he could really lay into it and didn't have any fear of bumping it into something. That part makes some sense..... however the $$$ is beyond my comprehension.
Jon I know this has nothing to do with this video but, if you could give me some Ideas as to what to look for in an amp to use with acoustic guitars. If I purchase and use an amp I would be doing so to manipulate the sound with special effects. I would not be doing it just to get more volume. Here in the states I am sure I have different amps than you do. That is why I am looking for info on what to look for in an amp. I would prefer not to have a special effects board with the amp. Is that possible?
Jon, thanks for showing... such nice tone! Wonder how those pickups would sound in a sub $1000 (USD) guitar, i.e. Sire T7 ? Again thanks for showing, it's another great video.
Excellent sounding guitar. I’ve never understood the relic bit. Buy a new guitar and maybe in 20 or 30 years after a lot of playing time it would look like this one.
I’ve been thinking about this a lot. I think the appeal is “inspiration.” Old instruments can “transfer” their history in an inspirational way. These allow players to tap that at a lower cost. That’s my theory..they have a different vibe. That’s my scientific evaluation.
@@homeboyjon4885 I picked up a reliced LSL telecaster costing £2800. It played and sounded amazing. Really it was a modern instrument that was built to perfection. I don't care about the relicing thing... it's like buying jeans with holes in them, a fashion statement. I myself am relic enough at 67! But the instrument did impress me. It sound so refined and precise
Who would pay £5874 for a damaged guitar? I have two masterbuilt custom shop strats but they are in mint condition and cost a lot less than this one. Just as well that it sounds good. Sorry Jonathan but i can't stand damaged guitars, thanks for the demo.
You don’t have to apologize to me Allan.. never would I recommend you or myself to get this guitar.. the video is just to see what the hype is all about these guitars. ✌️❤️
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Just trying to be polite Jonathan, as for the hype, i can only go by the two that i own, the Bonnie Raitt is a one off compared to most Strats, the other is a "Hank Marvin" with Kinman pickups and compared to a USA standard Strat with the same pickups it just sounds the same, but has a "played in" feel to the neck. Or, you can buy a "regular" Fender Tele or G&L ASAT and put a set of Lollar '52 Tele pickups in it. Or, you can buy a Suhr or Tom Anderson or LSL or ??? equivalent and get yourself a Bad Cat combo amp with the money you've saved. Or, you can pay a premium for the headstock decal and the fake wear and tear.

Love you smooth playin skills bro but seriously , through an ORANGE AMP instead of a blues deluxe ?
Seriously.. who ever have you the idea I was using the orange?
Cause I see it sitting right there next to you so one would assume right . What are you playing through ?
