great review, Maybe just me but I love the Masterverse line, I sold my Super7 He-man and Skeletor soon as I got the Masterverse versions. really hope they do more movie figs and keep the line going with the "New Eternia" stuff
Watched masters of the universe last week. Absolutely loved it still. The music had no business being that good Skeletor still is unmatched in pure camp and joy. Frank was just too fantastic Actually had a surprisingly heartfelt feel to it
You're so right Terry, the score by Bill Conti is outstanding Imagine if this film was a hit and subsequently had successful sequels, the score's main theme would be so recognizable worldwide and iconic I believe, up there with scores like Superman, Predator, Star Wars and more! So, so good.
Yeah. Anyone shitting on it really has no clue. Given the circumstances, the time, the budget available it really was awesome what we got. They made it somewhat more realistic and gritty and the movie does hold up. Just imagine if the look would have been like in the cartoon. That would have been a desaster.
Great video, and I also agree with the Masterverse version being the slight superior of the two. What really makes it my personal favorite is the price point and availability. I'll be buying it as soon as I find at Target.

I think another reason for the more colorful aspects of Masterverse 87 Skeletor is possibly for it to be more “toyetic” since it was made by Mattel. Amongst all the other colorful MOTU characters he would definitely stand out all in black but that’s just a guess.

Let's hope! A Masterverse God Skeletor would be terrific. I am also hoping this subline goes even further and gives us 1987 movie characters never made into figures before like Evil-Lyn and Beastman. It would be fun!

@@foreterniaofficial The QC on these movie figures seems pretty low. My He-Man had enough defects (paint, chips, etc.) that I returned it. I was luckily enough to find a store that had one in stock to repurchase.
Screen-accuracy means very little to me. Both toys capture the sense-memory for me of being a small child seeing this movie in 1987, and screaming "I HAVE THE POWER!" at the top of my lungs into the cold night's air as I and my family left the theater. But the Masterverse version is probably a little easier on the wallet. And has a TON of kitbash-potential. "I must possess ALL... or I possess NOTHING!"
Yeah I think they both have pros and cons (I'd argue the Super 7 figure's face is 'better' cos it's sharper and more detailed but that could be since it's trying to represent the concept art and not so much the final make up) the Masterverse for me wins in overall appearance, plus size, articulation, affordability, availability (since it's sold more as a toy for general play rather than the Super 7's more 'adult collector' focus) and obviously goes well with all my other Masterverse figures. It's certainly a much more successful attempt than the He-Man figure was.
Nice assessment! And you can say that again buddy in regards to affordability! (at least for now) It will be interesting to see what the Masterverse Skeletor figure will go for on the collector secondary market years from now.
The Super7 isn't meant to be a film accurate figure, it was based on the artwork and design concepts so, it will be accurate to those drawings and not the film. That is the sneaky wat Super7 got around likeness rights etc. Great video.
Yep! I actually mentioned that in the beginning of the video. I don't quite get how Mattel gets around that same licensing requirement though. But alas, both are trying to appeal to us consumers who want a Frank Langella Skeletor on our shelves. 🙂 Thanks for leaving such a nice comment!
I don't like soft good on action figures. I prefer the chunkier look of Classics over Masterverse that are a bit thinner and lankier to accommodate the double joint articulation. I also don't like how the hood hangs on the Masterverse figure. Sticks up too much at the side. So I'll stick with my Classics version.
Do you know how much they were when they were originally released? Got the Masterverse, as I don't want to pay 200, but still somehow would like to get those too.
