    Hello Squidmar, interesting video, some background on the Thunderhawk, it was part as you know of the full chapter project GW did for Games day, (originally conceived by John Stallard) elements of the whole of GW contributed. The Factory assisted by designing the Thunderhawk and Tim was the primary sculptor. We made three originally but they were not intended for general release. However Tom Kirby the then CEO/ General Manager asked us to make it a unique product, wooden box, burnt/ embossed wording etc.
    The Ownership document has a version of my signature as a certificate of authenticity, the model was designed to be built from the inside out, you may have noticed the holes in the internal frames, these have the brass rods passed through to give strength, then the side panels are added and so on. There were at approximately 500 made but I do not know the exact amount as I moved on after founding Forgeworld.
    The Aquila were existing GW badges re-purposed, both for the model and box.
    The internal details were based on Jaguar and F15 details

But thats on the maker, not the consumer, and they have reject bins for a reason. These parts were literally out of spec. And the fact that it broke because it needed additional support was evidence the manufacturer either had no idea what they were doing or didn't care.
      This is definitely a case of "Oh its expensive in a fancy box, it MUST be good". The box was the only thing here I would want. This was trash in a fancy wrapping, and I hope this dude gets enough money off this video to cover the labor cost for three guys for four days.

Get over it bud , your heart will be broken and or you will eat your words when the details are done.

    Great build so far. But lot of works still to be done. What really helps me with such difficult gluing seams is to enlarge the contact area with 1,5 to 2mm styrene card, cut to shape from the inside. It helps with the right angles too and the glue has a massive area to adhere to. And of course lots of pins....

    Here's a tip: Use some solder and a soldering iron. The composition of the solder should be relatively close to the composition of the actual model so you can effectively weld it together. Make sure you have good temperature control though otherwise the model could melt.

  • @barryhill2836
    @barryhill2836 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    My dad used to own a miniature company (Falcon Figures) and he did all the moulding himself. One thing he would tell me that people just DON'T think about is that metal shrinks, expands and warps with heating (melting) and cooling (hardening), which was really common with larger multi part metal miniatures - like the old 40k Krootox, the Lord of the Rings Mounted characters.

    Next time if you drill through something, use underneath something like a piece of wood/something softer than the metal but sturdy enough to hold the part. Thus you reduce the tension on the drill bit, not to mention the parts won't fall apart while you do the drilling.

  • @Fury9er
    @Fury9er 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I remember when this came out, it was a monster. The only other thunderhawk model in 40k scale was a plan published in a very old Citadel Journal. That white metal might even have still had lead in it from '97, I recall making things like Dreadnoughts and landspeeders it would tarnish a little and that defied a good glue joint. 2 part epoxy usually did the business though.
