Car dealerships allow you to take cars sometimes that you are considering buying. The sales people allowed me to keep my vehicle for two days before I bought it.
The young man should still be responsible. Maybe not to go get the car at the tow company, but money that was owed for the damages he caused. Just pure negligence.
She did hold him responsible for the damages: she rendered the cat as totaled and paid the full value of the car. If repairs cost more than the car is valued you only get the value

It’s because he isn’t legally able to get the vehicle out of tow yard, and the fees accrue daily. The plaintiff had a duty to mitigate the costs by getting it out quickly versus letting it sit there and letting the bill continue to mount.
