So he was hanging out in the intersection waiting to turn, the light turned red, and he tried to rush through the turn and caused a wreck. There's a reason you're not supposed to do that.
If he's already in the intersection when his light turns red, he has to continue. He can't just sit there. Most likely if the insurance companies couldn't decide who was truly at fault, it was because the defendant had the possibility of right of way and the plaintiff's side couldn't prove otherwise, yet still left doubt so the plaintiff's insurance paid for his own repairs
@@jedimasters1462 You're not supposed to hang out in the intersection, is the point. Proceeding with caution is the next best thing, which it seems he also may not have done.

@@bparth1896 You're right that this is state-dependent. It also may depend on whether or not there is a dedicated turn lane. For example, where I live, if there's a left turn lane, you cannot wait in the intersection. In either case, his biggest issue was not turning with caution.

Well, according to their diagram, it was not a dedicated turn line. Not to mention, dedicated turn lanes always have their own light. It was already stated in the video it did not have its own light.

He said it was there 30 days I believe? He probably lost it because of the time it was there. Most tow lots can sell a car to recoup storage fees after a month or so, depending on where you are.
Although it was a new car, he was probably financing and couldn't afford it outright. He foresaw the mounting impound fees, the repair fees, the penalty fees from the motor company...and unfortnately , like JJ demonstrated, he through his hands in the air. However, his very short-sighted surrender only brought him peace of mind for a couple of days. The headache and financial repercussions will follow him for years.

makes no sense. we own an auto body shop and we pay impound fees when insured goes thru insurance and get reimbursed by their ins co. it would of never stayed at the lot that long to incur that much fees. he just left it there for whatever reason makes no sense to me esp if he had valid ins. why ruin ur credit like that when u can have it fixed for your deductible ONLY!

He can't prove that his mom didn't run the red light just like the other guy can't prove that he didn't cut in front of her. That's why insurance didn't pay.

Why was the car impounded? If an insured car is not drivable after an accident, the car is towed to a repair shop of the insurance company's or driver's choice. It might be impounded if it is not insured at the time of the accident. Or if the driver was drunk. I wish JJ had asked.

My guess is that guy didn't even have insurance.
He absolutely did not have insurance. Because if he had coverage at the time of the loss his car would have been fixed and there would be nothing to recover. He wouldn’t have owed the plaintiff the $500, because their individual policies would have covered their losses and repair.

The defendant did a, "failure to yield". I was at fault of one back in July 2023, lmfao my insurance high asf now. The police officer told me to suck it up because it was a mistake almost every young person/new driver makes. I was on liability insurance so I had to buy a brand new car outta pocket, smh I was broke for a long time😂😂😂😂
It's not true that every young person/new driver fails to yield. Plenty know perfectly well how to yield and not cause accidents. I hate when people who do stupid things act like it's normal and everyone does it.
Poor man destroyed his car, his credit, another person's car, his insurance rate, and let some crooked tow company sell his new car for pennies on the dollar...but pure profit for them. SMH. All for not paying attention for a second on the road. Learn his lesson, folks, before you learn the hard way!

She would normally ask to see photo to determine who hit who, she just didn’t like how the defendant left his car in impound and just stop paying for it.
As a claims adjuster I know exactly what happened to the defendant’s car. People get in accidents and they assume someone else will take care of everything while the car sits at a tow yard racking up daily storage fees. After a few days, the insurance company will remind you of your duty to mitigate damages and cut off paying for storage from 3-5 days after the accident, unless there are extenuating circumstances. That tow yard told him the bill and he said “eff that car” and the tow yard kept it until they could consider it abandoned, sold it and made a nice profit.
I’ll never understand this mindset. I rely on my car. If it’s towed away, I need to know where it is, how do I get it out and what are the next steps. It’s astonishing how many people have no clue where their car is and it’s been weeks or over a month since the accident. Like…you don’t use your car or something??
It doesn’t matter if the insurance company cancels the policy after the fact. Any coverage in effect on the date of the accident still applies.

The Defendant was in the intersection waiting to turn left. His light turned from yellow to red and he had to proceed through. Unfortunately the Plaintiff also tried to speed through the yellow(turning red) light, and technically she had the right of way. However, why didn't the Defendant immediately get his car out of the tow lot? He let it sit there for a month, fines growing, and ended up losing the car. This whole case was a bit nuts.
Possible yellow light violation on the plaintiff's part. You're supposed to stop unless it is not safe to do so.
True. She probably saw the Defendant waiting to finish his turn(as the light was turning from yellow to red) and she sped through anyways. Everyone is so impatient.

It sounds to me that the plaintiff didn't make sure that the intersection was clear before she proceeded. IMHO she was at fault for not making sure that the intersection was clear. You can't just start going into an intersection just because the light is green if other cars are still in the intersection.
If he was found responsible for the deductible, why wouldn’t he be responsible for his transportation while it was getting fixed?

Boy just say I couldn’t afford to pay the car note, insurance, my bills and the tow fees to get the car out. It’s either I do all that or be homeless or facing eviction that’s all he had to say.
It is so important to invest in a dash cam. If you were right or wrong when you got into an accident the dash cam would help resolve a lot of this inconvenience.
Even if the defendant had a green arrow it is still your responsibility, within reason, to ensure the intersection is clear.
If he had a green arrow he wouldn't have been in the wrong (although yes, even if you have the right of way you need to proceed with caution).
A green arrow would indicate that opposing traffic was stopped because, that is literally what a green arrows is for.. to let you know you don't have to yield to oncoming traffic and that it's a dedicated turn.

The insurance company dropped coverage in the midst of resolving the payment for the accident? Something doesn’t add up. He must’ve been seen as a high liability for them so that’s why they dropped him.
He couldn't pay the impound fees and the car payment so he decided to just let them keep the car and not pay the car payments since he couldn't drive it anyway.
@@Kaboomboo right but that was after he said he thought at first insurance was going to cover the costs and then they dropped coverage. After they dropped coverage and he realized he was going to have to pay to fix the car and the impound fees, that is when he stopped paying for the car.

Judge Judy should have compensated the man more than $500, as he had to pay for his Lift rides. Sadly, even though his getting $500 in judgment, I'm sure his insurance premiums are going to increase because of this accident.
A $600 car payment is absolute insanity. I say this with love and as someone who is from a poor upbringing. If you don't learn financial literacy to not make such poor financial decisions, you will only keep yourself down in this world.

That’s what happens when u have a street corner auto insurance company. His insurance should have fixed his car and pay tow fees and give him a rental while his car was being repaired regardless of fault.
I’ll take a JJ case at any time of the day.

So the plaintiff's new car was totaled and it was an at fault accident. Still the insurance would pay - except he probably didn't have any equity in the vehicle, so he gets nothing. But his insurance would have settled with the finance company. If he had gap coverage it would have covered any difference between car value and loan value and he should be whole. Maybe he didn't have gap coverage? I don't understand. Either way, he doesn't get a new car out of it.

Insurance will have the car towed to the tow truck lot and will then have it towed to insurances lot. He let insurance lapse or something. He did SOMETHING....???
His insurance may have dropped him after the accident, but he was still covered at the time of the accident. His fault he lost the car.
I agree with the deductible part of the judgement, but he should have been reimbursed for any costs of at LEAST going to and from work. Before Uber/etc, we just got rental cars.
