Abergavenny D-Day 80 Remembrance

D-DAY 80. The market town of Abergavenny came together today to remember those who fought and lost their lives.
We were there to capture the moments when wreaths were laid and prayers were said at the War Memorial.
We were fortunate to meet and chat to 99 year old D-Day veteran Mel Hughes who remembered those days as a young 18 year old conscript.
We also spoke to the Secretary of State for Wales @davidtcdavies

Talking to Mel I have to confess I felt emotional when I asked him about the moment he left home to onto war. I asked him what his abiding memory was of that day.
He told me, it was watching the tears roll down his father’s cheek onto the railway platform as he boarded the train.
As a parent, I can’t even begin to imagine what that must have been like for his Dad.
