Agreed. Great wrenches. replacement in store is needed but at a minimum keeping all sies in stock for quick shipment to you. Warranty is great for a broken tool but loss of a tool just happens and it happens to everyone sooner or later.
That's a shame. Some part of me wants to see HF succeed, although I prefer to buy USA made stuff. I was contemplating getting their "Mountain" style ratcheting double box end wrenches for the warranty, but wonder if I'd be waiting months if broke only of them. The convenience to going to the store and getting an immediate replacement is a major selling point.
You would be in the same boat if you bought the actual Mountains or If your like me and got them off the cornwell truck... I tweaked the flex on a 17mm and had to wait nearly a month for the exact replacement from cornwell...
@@zachroberts1988 That's a serious bummer. I feel that especially with ratcheting wrenches, the ability to quickly warranty them is a major consideration. Its easy to see how even the best ones could be broken with a bit muscle.
@Benzene3686 absolutely, tbh unless your tool truck rep has it on his truck, the days of same day warranty for a lot of tools kinda died with sears... I can say tekton and vim have been quick when it comes to mailing it in, but it is a pain! I think HF may eventually get there, but it'll be a few more years...
I agree Jeff that is why I do not own a set. I have been thinking about adding that long pattern set to the tool box but I have been thinking of doing it in carlyl because I can get individual wrenches or replace one when one gets lost. Hopefully some day Harbor fright fixes that my friend.
I lost my 9/16 anti slip wrench and ordered a new one on February 10th. I still have not received my new wrench. HF has sent me a couple of emails asking if I'd call them or they would cancel my order. I just want my wrench. This really changed my perspective on Icon and HF.
I agree, when you can go to Lowes, Home Depot, and Ace and buy one offs, no less Napa or Autozone. Why bother with Harbor Freight? Sometimes you do need to have duplicate wrenches in certain sizes, and who wants to buy another set when all you need is one. And there is no way to try out there wrenches by buying just one to see how you like them before committing to a whole set.
I really wish they would offer wrenches and sockets individually. I would love to buy them separately when I need to modify the socket or wrench for the job.
PSA for all you guys. These wrenches are made by Infar (spelling?) in Taiwan. They are the same wrenches that are sold as Carlyle, but also sold at Doitbest Hardware and branded Channellock. You can go to your local NAPA and buy them individually, or you local doitbest hardware and buy them individually. Also, the Channellock branded sets go for around half the price of the Icon/Carlyle.although they do skip a couple of sizes. However, you can buy the Channellock set and the individual wrenches that are skipped for around 65 to 70 dollars. Same long pattern, with same anti slip design, EXACT same wrenches.
Thanks for passing along the info!! i knew Carliyle was the same because i had them and gave them away in one of my weekly give aways!! i give tools away every other month!!! i had 36 give aways in 9 months!!!! when i hit 8K subs im giving away some nice ratchets,Matco,Icon, and a suprise!! stay tuned!!
@@user-ki3dj9pu9y correct you are. I have used Carlisle to replace my lost Icons. Carlisle sockets too. I got their mid length sets to round out the ‘Con stuff and larger sizes in shallow and deep
Carlisle from NAPA are exact same wrench. I lost my 10mm( go figure) and 14mm. Only difference is oart number and name stamped on it. Sockets too!! Their midlenth sockets match Icons and will replace lost ones too
I can count on 2 fingers how many of my shop wrenches I've lost over the years. If I heard my wrench slip off a car, you better believe I'm pulling over to get it. Mostly due to the cost to replace a single USA tool these days, but also because of how much I need that tool to work for me.
I really like my sets. I've got the sae and metric. I believe they will start offering singles before too long. They have to be aware that not offering them for individual is a negative. But so far, I haven't had an issue with losing any. I recently picked up a metric set of Icon double-open end wrenches and have been very impressed with them. They even made them chrome-moly steel instead of chrome vanadium, which personally, I prefer. The only negative would be that the set only goes from 8mm to 17mm. So, I'll probably be filling in the rest with Capri up to 24mm.
List my 10mm craftsman flex head wrench at the junkyard. I was so mad. An older set and I can’t find it anywhere, to buy individually. Harbor Freight will open up a new set to replace a broken wrench, for the person talking about the double box end wrenches, they just don’t do it for missing individual wrenches. Broken warranty wrenches is pretty amazing!
Another point…. I’m way too ocd to deal with this. But remember Carlyle wrenches are basically a carbon copy of these. And available individually in store. It’s an option at least
Couldn’t agree more. I understand the extra costs associated with carrying open stock. But it would be such a huge convenience and selling point over so many of the Amazon alternatives. Another great example…. I’ve had a set of tekton combination wrenches for years. For a while now, every time I place an order with tekton, I grab another size or two. Now my set is 6-26mm no skips. If I could do the same thing with harbor freight, they’d be getting all kinds of extra money out of me .
I agree but I hope that wouldn’t increase the price too much. Also icon is big on no skip sizes but they skip sizes on their half inch impact sockets. That drives me crazy because I can’t even get the sizes I want to complete my set of icon sockets. They should sell those individually also.
I was honestly considering just going with gearwrench for wrenches. Have a farm store that has them all individually, so I will buy their set(with skips) and buy the fillers, but seeing this one go on sale in August I’ll wait. Might go bigger or smaller with some gearwrench
I don't have a full set of Craftsman USA wrenches anymore (wrenches borrowed and not returned plus flood damage) but I remember when they had the individual of wrenches on the shelf.
I don't have this set I have the 10 to 19 extra long set It was a good deal with the 25% off coupon. But that's it doesn't come with the anti-slip grip in the front
your spot on Jeff , l lost one working on my Case loader it was a flare nut wrench , l was done with the job and came up one wrench short they said you have to buy a new set to replace it , well l found it a month later . Thanks JEFF

Your 100% right. If you break a wrench they open a new set and give it to you and then discount that set. That makes no sense to me. They could make a lot more money and win over more customers. I hope they do something about this especially for those of us with OCD. Thanks Jeff good subject
Hi mike i had some good feedback on this one!!! they would sell so much more having single wrenches, sockets!!only time will tell if they change it!!! thanks mike!!
Remember when you could go into Sears any where in the nation buy set of sockets wrenches anything they sold they had singles small sets addon sets if they didn't have it you could order anything in the catalog and normally have it the next business day I remember them breaking a set to warranty a tool 👍😎👍
Your right Jeff! They also need to sell sockets and other Icon items individually. Granted they make more money selling sets but they have to look out for the return customer, THANKS for the video
Was at a neighboring small town's private hardware store this weekend and they had a brand called Vulcan (made in Taiwan) that looked just like the Icons with the addition of a sae/metric ring painted on the box end.
I agree with you Jeff, but I think the logistics of that is easier said than done. I’d like to see them at least start carrying singles in the Icon line up.
I agree with you Jeff. Harbor Freight should have individual wrenches, sockets, extensions etc. available in the store. How many times has someone gone to Sears to buy an individual wrench and ended up coming home with other additional items. I've done it myself. I went to Harbor Freight with the intention of just buying an ICON ratchet. While I was there I found an extended blow gun and the Tru Flate style fittings that I use. Since I bought the ratchet, blow gun and fittings I was given a choice of a free gift. I chose the magnetic parts tray. 🙂🙂
If they sold Icon wrenches single in the store as well as sockets, extensions, etc they would sell tons more Icon tools!!!! the old sears stores were awesome for that!!!! i bought alot of single wrenches, sockets at sears!! just to have spares or sizes i didnt have!!! thanks lieser for sharing your take!!
I had these wrenches for about 10 days and absolutely hated them. The beam is so narrow it feels like a blade cutting into the palm of your hand! A couple of them also slipped way too easily while doing alignments. They went back to the store and I ended up with Mac Precision Torque combination wrenches and I have never loved a wrench more.
You raise a very valid point Jeff. Being able to buy wrenches individually is really important. I've bought more than a few made in USA Craftsman wrenches individually when I needed a particular size, although that special size had to wait till I made a trip to the USA. These days my go to brand is Kincrome as they have a fantastic warranty and I can buy individual wrenches, sockets and so on from my local Bunnings (Australian version of Home Depot).
Yep, that is ridiculous. People will stop buying them if the proper support isn't available. We all lose/break tools. I can see not doing individuals for their Pittsburgh line but tools that command decent money should be backed up properly by the store selling them. Taking a tool from a kit and then selling the now incomplete kit on their clearance rack is one of the dumbest business models I have ever seen.
Yea tearing down a new set to give a customer 1 wrench is ridiculas,no doubt!! if they sold singles they would sell lots more Icon wrench sets!!! thanks my friend!!!
I agree. Being able to easily and quickly purchase individual wrenches is one reason I went with Tekton combination wrenches last year. I was seriously considering the ICON, because I could pick them up at the local Harbor Freight store, but the inability to purchase an individual replacement within a reasonable period of time was a deal breaker for me.
4 months!? Holy cow. If they’re worried about bloating the shelves, or theft, they could keep singles in the back, and just have a pegboard in the wrench isle with all the singles available. Could sell wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, etc.
Hi jester im not sure what they think!! it only makes sence to me to sell single wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, they would sell so much more!! will see if it changes!!!! thanks for joining in!!!
Hi bret i never did a review on craftsman overdrive wrenches!! i need to!! the Icon are one of my top sets!! check out my combo wrench play list series!!!!!
10mm wrenches.... sockets... and bolts.... always seem to develop legs and walk off! Surprisingly the wrench and sockets I find most often on the side of the road while walking or bicycling are most often 10mm....
I know nobody wants to talk about this. Everybody wants icon to be the new and improved craftsman, and HFT to be the replacement for Sears. But I don’t think that’s in the cards. I do have quite a bit of icon stuff. I too want to believe! Lol 😂 But I’m not feeling that commitment! I actually feel less commitment from harbor freight as time goes on. Take the new Quinn offerings that have came in the last year. Specifically the 3/8 no skip set, 6-24 & 1/4-1”, why wasn’t this brought out as an icon set? Then they come out with an icon mobile set, same ole shit they have on the shelf individually but packaged as a set. This confuses me. And really the same goes for all the Quinn stuff they’ve come out with this year. They’re putting more into the Quinn brand than they are the icon! I don’t get it. They’ve probably come out with 20 new Quinn products and less than 10 icon. Really should’ve been flip flopped if they expected icon to be the lead! And especially if they wanted to instill confidence in their consumer. Combine these elements with that 2 week long 25% off icon, buy more save more, and the upcoming 40% on icon ratchets. I LOVE sales and getting a bargain, but this feels like something else. I was in my store a good 5 or 6 times during that sale and I never saw anyone with a cart of icon. The shelves were actually stocked nicely except for the pliers section, obviously that was the place to go to get to the 25% tier for the 1 large item you were actually in the market for. I don’t know what’s going on but I’m not betting the farm on icon still being here a year from now, let alone 5.
Thats a great point about the icon line!! like you said there coming up with more quinn!! to be honest i like the quinn ratchets better then the icon!!! time will tell!!! still got along way to be better then the old sears store, thanks my friend, great feedback!!!
Dang, bringing that topic up to Harbor Freight is like asking water not to be wet. No doubt I ain’t the only one over the years to ask HF about selling open stock wrenches, sockets, and screwdrivers.
I had got some icon ratchet wrenches stubby for 10$ and put them on offer up for 40$ and some one offer me 20$ two months later icon has the worst resale
Far more convenient to order from tekton. Harbor freight requires some loops to get through to get tools in. First time this happens to someone who needs them quick, theyll never purchase icon again!
In a perfect world, that would be great, but don’t fool yourself, harbor freight is in it for the Benjamins, not customer service. Having single wrenches available would cost them money. I guess it’s the chance you take buying icon. Thanks.
Hi slim you never lost any or had some walk away!!i could do a long video on tools i left in peoples cars, got stolen,or lost in the snow or deep grass, etc, lol!!! thanks slim for checking in!!

10mm wrenches.... sockets... and bolts.... always seem to develop legs and walk off!
Surprisingly the wrench and sockets I find most often on the side of the road while walking or bicycling are most often 10mm....
I hear ya!! it happens to all of us,lol!! thanks my friend for joining in!!
I know nobody wants to talk about this. Everybody wants icon to be the new and improved craftsman, and HFT to be the replacement for Sears. But I don’t think that’s in the cards. I do have quite a bit of icon stuff. I too want to believe! Lol 😂
But I’m not feeling that commitment!
I hear ya don!!! will see if they ever change that!!! thanks don!!!
Lowes and Home Depot are the same when Sears was open, they sell the wrenches and sockets individually
Good to know, thanks for the info!!!!
Jeff, keep an eye on that icon 10mm wrench 😂, glad you still got it!
Its only because of you, lol!!! thanks don!!stay cool!!!!
You're right. 4 Months is ridiculous. They really do need to sell these individually. Thanks for the head's up.
Hi paul lets hope they start selling these single and maybe some add on sets as well!!! thanks paul!!!
I had got some icon ratchet wrenches stubby for 10$ and put them on offer up for 40$ and some one offer me 20$ two months later icon has the worst resale
Thats a valed point my friend!! thanks craig!!!
FYI, during the August parking lot sale- these wrenches will be $70 per set, all Icon ratchets will be 40% off, and the hex ratchet set will be $25.
Well thats where ill be doing my next big tool haul, lol!! thanks my friend!!!
No space.
hi papa you could be rite!!!
Far more convenient to order from tekton. Harbor freight requires some loops to get through to get tools in. First time this happens to someone who needs them quick, theyll never purchase icon again!
Hard to beat tekton Rob!! thanks for checking in!!!!
They need to stock about 1,000 10mm wrenches/sockets per store😂😂
Hi M4C,i like your thinking, lol!! thanks for checking in!!!
In a perfect world, that would be great, but don’t fool yourself, harbor freight is in it for the Benjamins, not customer service. Having single wrenches available would cost them money. I guess it’s the chance you take buying icon. Thanks.
Im not sure what they think, but i do agree with you they only care about the bottom line!! thanks my friend for joining in!!!!
I’ve never lost any of my wrenches or sockets, but I can definitely see it happening
Hi slim you never lost any or had some walk away!!i could do a long video on tools i left in peoples cars, got stolen,or lost in the snow or deep grass, etc, lol!!! thanks slim for checking in!!
ass-aye-eee
Something like that!!
