How have I been in research science for 20 years and just now learning about JMP? I learned about it from Avery Smith (who teaches about corporate data analytics). My advisors were either out of the loop or just wanted me to suffer trying to figure out how to create sophisticated charts with Prism and SPSS! 😭😭

Ruth, the video is great. But you have a serious problem with your JMP scripts in the dataset. The last 2 scripts CRASHED JMP on 2 of my computers: 1) the latest 16” MACBOOK Pro with the latest version of MACOS, and JMP Pro 15.1. It has 64 Gb of RAM and an I9 CPU. 2) A DELL Dual Xeon workstation with 256 Gb of RAM and 8 TB of storage. It has Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit and JMP PRO 15.1.
Can you re-issue the JMP dataset? Thank you.

I'm so glad you downloaded the data and tried to run the scripts! I think the issue is that I built this with JMP 15.2, which is not yet publicly available. You should still be able to build the models as I did in the video using JMP Pro 15.1. I expected them to still run in 15.1, but I didn't confirm that. I'm so sorry for the issue! (There are some nice interactivity features that aren't available in 15.1, but the models should still be buildable in 15.1.) The saved scripts for everything outside of the SEM platform should work on any recent version of JMP. The scripts for the CFA and SEM might crash on versions prior to 15.2 -- that's probably what is going wrong. I'll post a version for 15.1 later today at www.jmp.com/en_us/academic/academic-webinars.html#sem. Sorry about that!

Ruth M Hummel Thank you, Ruth! I figured that these particular scripts were not backward compatible with JMP 15.1, but this was the first time that JMP had crashed on my Dell workstation! Incidentally, your video explanations are very clear and inspiring, so thank you for your great work!

Great 👍. I have data but I am not sble to organise data in right form or tabulating the data !! Does any one help me to organise those data? It focuses on vegetation distribution on different altitudes…

Is it important to show 95% confidence ellipse in PCA? why it is so? If my data is not drawing it then what should i do ? can i used PCA score graph without 95% confidence ellipse?

    • @ruthmhummel

Hi Qasim, sometimes people publish papers showing PCA plots without adding the 95% confidence ellipse -- it is an option to add that ellipse and you are the one to decide if it adds information that you want to communicate with your plot. When people include the ellipse, it is usually to help the viewer's eye better see trends. Often people will add grouped ellipses, so that you get a different ellipse for each group. Then a viewer can better see if the groups are highly overlapping or if they are very separated in the PCA dimensions.
