I'm doing more and more SMG troops with my Soviets as they are just devastating at close range. But I also give them a LMG so as to be able to at least give out a pin or two as they close into the 12" range they have. Otherwise they can get decimated with up to 3 turns if the opponent infantry has a LMG with a 36 inch range. We'er doing our battle of Stalingrad with 6 players a side 12 total at 850 points minus your HQ/Lt selection this Saturday. I have 8 OD at 848 points but my center piece is the nasty KV-8 with a veteran sniper and regular heavy mortar for support. Then I got 2, 8 man regular SMG squads with a LMG each and my free 12 man squad. I'm also trying out the storm group with 5 man veteran squad of them. They are nasty as they always go first no matter what when it comes to hand to hand fighting, with the armed to the teeth rule.
people have argued actually that the commissar just "removes a model" so it doesn't actually trigger the Green special rule in the inx rifle squads which lets ya roll to see it they upgrade because it says "when the squad takes a casualty"
When I saw you had uploaded a starter video on Soviets after watching your winter soviet video I audibly said 'fuck yeah'. Not many things are deserving of that.
After getting my 72 conscripts, I'd use the spare men for Tank-Hunter Teams. A full unit of 4 with SMG's and a Panzerfaust is legit scary, particularly if you take Veteran level units. I've took this three times and you deploy them just like Forward Observers/Snipers. Bit of a risk but you can blow up a tank possibly right from the start.
Love the idea! Just... hope you all know that Enemy at the gates was complete bull ffrom the historical perspective, right? Don't wanna detract from the fun fantasy of it all... but human wave, especially as depicted in that particular film, is a complete fabrication.
The Soviets rarely used human wave attacks. However, if you look at a lot of their big setpiece battles like the battle of Kursk. The Soviets lost 800,000 men in 2 weeks of fighting. They weren’t using human wave, but their disregard for the individual soldier is legendary. Also, there were human wave attacks at Stalingrad. Not exactly as depicted in the film, but as the Germans were starting to take the West Bank of the Volga, Soviet conscripts were sent across the river in boats with nothing but axe handles and shovels. One survivor of one of these attacks said he asked his CO how they were supposed to win without any real weapons and his CO told him to “just get on with it”
Sure, I agree on all counts. But localized human wave assaults could also be called assaults, charges, storms or frontal assaults, right? Human wave kinda implies running zounds of peasants at enemy guns until they run out of ammo and then you just... swamp them. That's why I'm calling human wave a fabrication. Soviets didn't particularly value the human life, but they saw it as a resource, and they spent it as needed, not wastefully. According to their calculations, at least...@@cptwinters241
Call that a Horde!........ I managed to fit 52 orders in 1kpts for Soviets! 😂 Adversely I managed to make a Vet British list from 1 box of Perry's Desert Rats plastics!
Bolt Action looks super fun, but I don't think that, apart from collecting, I'd play it. From what I've seen fishing for 6 is very common, and frankly (and I know it may sound stupid) but my pride as a countryman may get in the way. Seeing the armies of the "archenemies" makes me a bit vexed. Half of my mind tells me to play, but the other half says 'no'. Such connection to history was a part of my upbringing.
No Cossack or Mammoth Walkers? Where are your Daughters of the Revolution? I don't see any Heavy Infantry, Ursa Infantry, or Siberian Terrors?
Ursa and Heavy Infantry are veterans, that's why they go in his opposite Soviet list, the veteran elite
How do you build a Bolt Action Red Army horde?
S L O W L Y.
I faced one at a tournament this year
it was backed by AA trucks.
it was nasty to face.
(Tho that is just more or less the westernized version of red army.. still...
FORWARDS !!!!!)
I have a bunch of Soviet infantry and tanks I bought ages ago for Disposable Heroes that I want to mold into a Bolt Action force

Friendly Fire counts I reckon
Love the bolt action content!
Agreed!
Oh... I thought this was for WH40K IG :c
Oh well. I guess every Imperial Guard army is a Soviet Horde army ^^
This is the original infantry IG army lol
Even though enemies at the gate is so inaccurate it could be considered propaganda, I still enjoy this playstyle

Hold my beer while I dust off my Finns.
Just started a soviet army as a first foray into bolt action 👌
well Well WELLY WELLINGTON!

Hey mordian was wondering if you were gonna review the new french starter army for bolt action and the new sprues for french infantry?
Yep! Will cover it soon :)

Always wanted a Soviet horde , may just do it yet ! Thanks for the advice !
Any time!
I have a question is this list still legal in 3rd edition?
Not a KV2? the soviet fridge with snap to? Odd. Well you can build both turrets. But some dog mines would be a nice addition.
would love to see a mass banzai army fight a russian horde
Epic! Just sent it to my buddy who recently started soviets (im fkt lol)
So? Howd it go?
BANZAI !!!
if you Fail a order test you MUST shoot a player and reroll
A player? D:
@@ijsbeermeneer9952My man is playing on full realism.
How to build a Maori battalion army?
