    Actually I'm totally fine they didn't pick Kyokushin rules. Karate has always been about not hitting first and 'not necessarily' heavily injuring your oponent. This style of sports karate is about getting the first effective strike on the opponent, instead of maniacally knocking them out. HOWEVER this doesn't mean that exactly those tournament fighters wouldn't go all-in in a streetfight and break bones. Rafael Aghayev is the prime example. People shouldn't judge the effectivness of Karate on WKF kumite, but rather see this version as a clean modest variation of what karate can offer.

      There are still karate masters in Okinawa. If one seeks that path for his karate, he can follow it. Olympics will not ruin anything, the opposite - it will make many adepts to push themselves even further. Nothing wrong with that. Only young people participate in tournaments - around their 30 they quit. After that they can focus on traditional karate. Look how many older karate adepts go to Okinawa to learn the roots of their martial art.

    • @voutespancar
      @voutespancar 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kempo79 I started now at 33 and just had my first tournament. There are still categories for people older than 30 who wishes to compete, at least in smaller tournaments. I think competition is important, maybe not essential but it's good to build courage and spirit. I also think traditional karate training is important, and sometimes focusing on self-defense instead of tournaments. Karate can be versatile like that.

    I really don't understand why there are so many upset people. Olympics are a good opportunity to make the world more interested in Karate, no matter what style is represented there. What is represented here is karate as a sport more than as a martial art and I think it's a good thing to not have one and only specific way to practice. You people should Just enjoy it, you can't change anything to it anyway.

    • @barrettokarate
      @barrettokarate 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They're upset because they've seen what has happened to the two other arts already (especially judo) and don't want it happening to karate. But all the worrying is ridiculous. For starters, karate is already out of the games. It will not be featured at the 2024 games and most likely not at the 2028 games in the U.S. Only 1, maybe a second American qualified for the 2020 games and of them only one (Sakura Kokumai) is expected to have a chance at a medal. Not exactly great motivation for the USOC to add a sport if they'll have little chance of winning at. 2032 is too far ahead so we don't even know who the host country will be. If the pandemic continues into next year the games will not postponed a second time, they'll just be cancelled. The IOC has already stated that the postponement of the games is costing it and Japan billions of dollars. In the end karate may not even makes its one and only debut.

    • @barrettokarate
      @barrettokarate 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      But this is a one time deal at least for an unforeseen future. Karate will not be at the 2024 games in Paris and most likely the 2028 games in Los Angeles are going to prefer to showcase something more "American" unless the WKF and USANKF can convince them otherwise to bring karate back. So we're looking at possibly a dozen or more years before there's a possibility of karate returning depending on its popularity in a given host country.
