  • If a child is unresponsive and not breathing, you will need to do CPR. In this video, a St John Ambulance trainer shows the steps & demonstrates how to do CPR on a child, and explains what to do if you're helping the casualty alone, or with a helper.

    so at the beginning of child CPR we start with 5 rescue breathe then start 30:2? not starting with 30 chest compression like how we did in adult CPR?

    • @_skud
      @_skud 4 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      Correct! This is because children usually require CPR for respiratory issues while adults typically need it for issues involving the heart

    Why we should give to the BABY and CHILD five initial rescue breaths?

    • @bizzle9537
      @bizzle9537 5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      because children tend to go into cardiac arrest due to their lungs not working efficiently. its very unusual to be a cardiac issue although that being said its not impossible.

    • @ajof45
      @ajof45 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What if the baby already in cardiac arrest?

    • @lukec.1717
      @lukec.1717 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because with children and babies it’s far less likely to be a cardiac arrest/sudden collapse like it is with adults (adults are at a far higher risk or cardiac arrest/heart attacks) a child collapsing will nearly always be because of a lack of oxygen.

    • @Hannah-pg2gb
      @Hannah-pg2gb 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Content no it’s age 12. But William Gardener it depends on the size of the person so a small adult may need child cpr but a tall teen might need adult cpr

      @viksa.d282 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adolescents are almost the same but you do NOT start with 5 breaths. Just with 30 chest compressions and 2 breaths then repeat and repeat till help arrives. It's just 30:2

    • @yo-gv2xq

      If you check the british heart foundations cpr video it says for every 30 chest compressions 2 breaths shoupd be given
      Hope this helps

    • @alia3693
      @alia3693 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      15:2 was the old guidelines. 30:2 are the new guidelines

    • @a.berruarslan5015
      @a.berruarslan5015 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      For children I also know that the ratio is 15:2. The new guideline says 30:2 for the Adult chest compression.

    • @helendunn4984
      @helendunn4984 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@yo-gv2xq 15:2 is for those with a "duty of care" i.e nurses, doctors etc. General public are deemed not to be able to remember two numbers and so 30:2 , the ratio for adults, is considered better than doing nothing

      You don’t know enough British people. It’s Nellie the elephant.
      To Bombay, a traveling circus came
      They brought an intelligent elephant
      And Nellie was her name
      One dark night she slipped her iron chain
      And off she ran to Hindustan
      And was never seen again
      Oooooooh
      Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
      And said goodbye to the circus
      Off she went with a trumpety trump
      Trump, trump, trump
      Now, Nellie the elephant packed her trunk
      And trundled off to the jungle
      Off she went with a trumpety trump
      Trump, trump, trump
      Night by night, she danced to the circus band
      When Nellie was leading the big parade
      She looked so proud and grand
      No more tricks for Nellie to perform
      They taught her how to take a bow
      And she took the crowd by storm
      Oooooooh
      Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
      And said goodbye to the circus
      Off she went with a trumpety trump
      Trump, trump, trump
      Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
      And trundled off to the jungle
      Off she went with a trumpety trump
      Trump, trump, trump
      Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
      And said goodbye to the circus
      Off she went with a trumpety trump
      Trump, trump, trump
      Nellie the elephant packed her trunk
      And trundled off to the jungle
      Off she went with a trumpety trump
      Trump, trump, trump
      …and on the song goes.

    5 breaths at the start is a UK standard.
    You should also have shown the use of a barrier device.

      Hi there - if someone is unable or unwilling to give rescue breaths, we advise compression-only CPR. These videos are aimed at laypeople who are unlikely to have a barrier device to hand; if one is available, it could be used.

    This video was made before COVID. With the current pandemic, I doubt the rescue breathes should be applied to anybody. I believe the advise was continuous CPR.
