I see lots of builders using brass for their electrodes, but brass is not the best choice for the electrodes. Copper rod (although more expensive, and a little harder to drill and thread due to its softness) would be a better choice. Brass has between 3 and 4 times the electrical resistance (1.7 * 10^-8 ohm-metres for copper, 6.3 for brass,) so it has more self-heating, and reduces the maximum current available to heat the steel by adding unnecessary resistance to the circuit; brass has a lower melting point than copper (930 C compared to copper's 1080 C) so it's more likely to melt the tip and the larger tip area will lower the heat concentration in the weld, reducing penetration; and copper is 4 times better at conducting heat away from the weld, (386 W/m K for copper, 96 W/m K for brass,) reducing the tendency for the tips to melt and become blunter (which increases the area of contact and spreads the heat out over a larger area.)

Unfortunately, the most important point has been neglected here. As a chemist and doctor, I can only warn against this. Please never use brass at higher temperatures, even if these are only reached for a short time like in this case. Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. When zinc is heated to a high temperature, it begins to vaporize and forms zinc oxide with atmospheric oxygen. Zinc oxide is extremely toxic and can lead to what is known as metal fume fever. For this reason, brass tools should never be used on these small melting furnaces with gas burners (there are countless instructions for this on youtube). Here, too, toxic zinc oxide is formed at the high temperatures. Due to the much higher temperatures even more than with spot welding with brass electrodes. Therefore please do not use brass with such tools. Metal fume fever can even be deadly.
As @brianspencer6397 suggested use copper electrodes instead.

Nice take on a spotwelder. Although electrode mounting is elegant, replacing them is too much effort (drilling and taping) for my taste :-) And I did not know that working with dibond material is so painless - learned something new. And I like it when makers use their self made tools for their projects!
