Get Consistent Sight Alignment - HOG Draw Drill

- Have you every drawn your gun and your sights aren’t where you want them to be? Yep, me too. I would say most everyone has been there at some point. So how do we get the sights to align? Simple, it’s probably in how you align your elbow when you are drawing. You’ll need to understand the left and right alignment, then the up and down alignment. This drill is straight out of the book, linked below. Let us know what you think in the comments. Also, yes the belts are finally out and for sale on the website, and Tom makes a cameo at the end after the gear breakdown.

This guy has such an unpretentious teaching style, you get the feeling that he just wants you to get better and doesn’t care what you think about him. So different from some others in his market segment. Earned a subscribe today.
Thank you for being better than me at vocabulary. You said what I was thinking in a way much better than I can. I’ll have to watch more of his videos.
I've been dryfiring an hour or more a day for like a Year now and my handgun Presentation and dot alignment is spot on. If you are not dry firing, you shouldn't go to the range, simple as
An hour every day? What are you doing for an hour?
@@ethanbarnes3973wasting time.
@ethanbarnes3973 it's definitely not uncommon. I'm at 2 hours, but I'm trying to classify at idpa as master in the carry optics. I feel I'd breeze through it but I want a surplus of skill I can fall back on to. I work on speed and the presentation from the holster mainly and making sure my trigger prep is immaculate so once the dot lands where I need it to under a second all I have is a slight dip.
There’s a good chance you’re dry firing inefficiently
@vmanshooting idk about the other guys but me personally I'm not rich so live fire is seldom. I've gone from MSP standards from white to brown in two months. I'm at the breaking point of meeting the black belt standards. I'll be taking his class in December, I'm literally .2 - .13 of meeting his black belt standards, and for me, it's been the draw and presentation that slow me down. I know what I'm doing wrong I'm just working to correct those ever so slight hiccups that keep me from getting there.
I've never thought about elbow position but now I'll apply that to my dry fire. Appreciate the free info 🤙
The true mastery is determined by attention to details. Thank you, sir!
Your videos and your book “Process and progress” have been extremely helpful and I feel like I’m 10x better shooter than I was a couple of months ago. Can’t wait to take one of your training classes!
Thanks man, and glad they are helping you out.
I am a new shooter and i really appreciate your candor and humility. i don't mind my "outlier" shots nearly as much since i see that you occasionally get them as well and you don't get too charged up about them
I just recently put dots on my carry g19 and my competition sig p320 love it, but didn't know why i had to present differently withthe glock. Thanks for being the first person to explain why ! 👍
This is the most thorough explanation of these issues I have seen, very helpful diagnostic tools. Thank you.
the elbow alignment deal is actually really interesting from an anatomical perspective. you can even do that without a gun in your hand. I tried doing it with a pointed trigger finger (trigger discipline comes in handy) with a simulated hold, and it's surprisingly useful drawing from the hip to on target. my index finger always points to wherever the barrel would point in that moment, so it will definitely come in handy dryfiring in situations where I don't have my gun on me.
This video completely changed the way I think about my draw. I have yet to get to the range since watching this, but through dryfire practice I can tell that my elbow was pointing way outside at the draw.
The content was also presented in an extremely effective manner that was easy to comprehend and place into practice.
This was a GREAT video. Such a simple concept that even after 30 years of shooting, I never realized. The elbow part especially. Worked your drill after watching and yep, it works like a charm. Hopefully, this makes me faster with practice.
Excellent instructional video. I like your methodical and logical approach. I have never really thought to pay attention to my elbow position and angle. Thanks for enlightening me.
The right coach with the right approach and way of wording makes all the difference. Thank you for the amazing video! Cheers from Austria
Excellent information, many instructors explain grip and position. Your explanation about the elbows makes a big difference about every person. You are the only one explaining this, thanks.
this is great. I have gone to the range once a week for the last 6 months and i have got better/ butttt hit a wall in the last 3 trips. this will give me something to work on to improve.
Drew as you know I love your book and the drills. Open my weekly training with the drill you started the Utah P-2 class with, the Cold Start. I am so much better with your help...keep up the good work.
What a great birthday video. I would love to see an appendix carry version please.
Solid advice, solid drill. I can definitely see this improving my draw very quickly. Never really thought about the elbow positioning that way, definitely going to keep that in my mental cash register.
This is a great video. Love it and hard to argue with any of it. Ive asked my friend to watch this before i shoot with him. I shoot with a glock and a cz and he just doesnt understand this practice part. Just like i practicd throwing different knives every day, or my teeps in muay thai every day, you practice dry fire every day. When the time comes its muscle memory. Again great video!
Very helpful video!
I actually purchased a TTrigger dryfire magazine, and with the help of your YT channel and Aaron Cowen's Sage Dynamics
Videos... My RDS Pistol shooting has exponentially gotten better in just a short amount of time (2 months ~1000rds, 1 bajillion dry fire reps). I almost threw in the towel on a RDS pistol, I could never find the dot... But now I'll never go back.
Thanks. 👍
Thx for the video - good to see you break down each part of the process - very helpful for fine tuning - I will def check out the book!
Frist time seeing this about the elbow. What a game changer. Thank you so much.
Very helpful. Clear and precise. Answered questions that I had about my draw.
Great how you’re isolating the elements of the draw and honing. Thanks for posting.
Your videos rock. I watch a lot of guntube, but when I watch your videos I get something out of it and get better like a switch.
Super simple, super smart. Great step by step instruction. Thanks!
Excellent video - I'd love to see this drill and adjustments when drawing from the appendix.
WoW, simple and sweet. Well done
Some great details here I think will very much benefit me as someone new to red dots. It's in the mail. My struggle though will be transitioning from the three stance to the one. I'm used to defensive training where you shoot based on distance of the threat. So first stance is shooting from the waist etc etc. So this will have to be added to that in some way.
will forever support ya 1 million % from a u.s. marine vet here 93' to 97' active ! n godspeed to or beloved 2A, thanks n great vid n content brotha > tom !
The new range looks great! 🎯
Just found your channel and its already been so useful. Thanks for the quality tutorials!
Well done instructional video. Simple and seemingly effective. I’ll utilize this drill with my laser dryfire systems. Then I’ll take it to the range. Thank you good sir!
I like the teaching points, but curious how this works for appendix carry. The elbow alignment would be significantly different.
I think I watch this video every freakin day😂😂 I for sure do the HOG drill every week. 😅💯
Thank you for all the tips and tactics.
Thank you. 5 stars all around.
Looking forward to applying this principle to my draw and sight alignment. Thank you.
Also, your arms are getting huge!!
Excellent advice and video! Thank you.
Perfect timing. Just made the switch from irons.
This is great advice. I'd also add that everything you learn from live fire, you should be applying to dry fire. Remember what it felt like when you got your shot on target and repeat that in dry. Go back to live and repeat the process. This has helped me a ton by simply self correcting over time.
Great info.! I too like having the tricep and the lat coming together as a team.
Thanks you gave me great fundamentals to work on with this dot
Dude.. idk how I never thought of elbow alignment as part of the process.. When going real fast and pushing the tempo I’d get some deviation side to side here and there and it drove me nuts.
Also, anyone considering doing one of his pistol classes, I’d highly suggest signing up for one. I’ve been shooting for a good while now and consider myself a pretty “functional” pistol shooter, and took a lot away from the class. Also, make sure to bring a PDP so Drew has a nice gun to shoot for the day 😂
Been diving into the book as well, lot of good shit in there and stuff that’s “outside the box” that makes you think WHY you’re doing what you’re doing.
🇺🇸
Ha ha. You guys like them PDPs. It did shoot nice.
@@baersolutions we’re basically jehovah witnesses trying to convert folks to the PDP-life haha
Awesome thing to think about. Been training for protective details, sweeping a sport coat out of the way on draw, and suddenly I was punching out a little left, which was abnormal for me. I bet my arm position was changing because I was avoiding contact with the jacket. Definitely going to be cognizant of this next time and see if I notice the difference
Super useful tips, thanks M8 ✌️
I was having the same problem dry firing.....until I rotated my elbow inward where my bicep is more vertical with my grip and it was way easier to align my sights. 🤙🏽🙏🏽 Very informative video fam....wishing you and your your channel many more blessings.
@14:48 😂😂😂 reminded of milspecmojo. MABUHAY!!
this is a very helpful video. Thank you, Brother!
Excellent video, thank you!!
Awesome, will try this tomorrow at the range
Very good info. Gunna do these drill this weekend. Keep up the good work
I going to work on the drills you have in the videos I watched. thanks.
Great video, kept my attention. Nice presentation.
One thing I saw on a video they said to do to find the red dot that really helped me was to try and line the back of the gun up with your nose when you present.
Really great information in this video.
Thank you ! This really did help me out !
Awesome advice! Thank you
Great video. I appraisal the elbow alignment tip.
Very helpful lesson 👍 Thanks
Thanks for the mention 👍
*My thumb webbing is raw from dry-firing. Good stuff.*
Great video and tips/drills. I'm going to practice them tomorrow. New subscriber.
Amazing video. Olease keem em coming
Great video and helpful 😊
Awesome video bro! Great info!
Very nice video. Thank you.
the fact that this great American only has 70k subs is criminal should have a lot more cause his ti[ps are simple and just effective
Excellent video
extremely helpful, thx
Outstanding thanks
Good dad joke! The kicker of this videon😊
Great vid! Thank you!!
👍 amazing thank you this has helped tremendously thank you
Great stuff as always. Hope you are doing good sir.
Man that range turned out great! I should learn how to run a backhoe and a bobcat...
Great drill and explanation during the drill!! Thank you Sir!
Good stuff, helps me to have a goal of how to shoot.
Pretty cool video. tks for your job
Great video will try
Dad jokes are the best!😄
Sure are.
Thank you!!
Thank you good sir may god bless you for many years
Making the transition from irons to a red dot, finding the dot was certainly not automatic. I got the 507k ACSS Vulcan and having the outer ring does help getting you back on track.
I have an issue with my dot being high to the point it is outside the viewing area. I will definitely be doing this drill. Great info! However, I carry and draw from appendix 90% of the time. I would greatly appreciate a video relating this drill to appendix carry.
Awesome video
Love the dad joke 🙂
Range day Friday I'll give this a try.
New dry fire drill to keep me from going crazy working at a desk! luckily, I work at home so I can just wear my pistol around all day! This is great info, thanks!
Got us in the first half of the comment lol... then I read works from home
Haha, didn’t even realize that might be a questionable thing.. I’ve worked at my home office so long I forget it’s not the norm..
Good drill, and man you are freakin jacked. Solid work.
Thanks. I do a lot of pilates
Wish classes were held in Washington or Oregon. Settled for the book.
I'd totally try your work out video 💪💪
Got to be one of the best and most comprehensive videos ive seen . Great info. My state just "allowed" us to conceal carry, so ill be trying my hand with appendix carry. A video like this focused on drawing from appendix would be awesome.
Drew's got some amazing hair. Helpful content too. Thanks!
Ha ha.
Great video just subscribed
can we get a dad joke compilation video? that would be amazing! 😂
Bob is a beast he still uses irons!!!
Very good 👍
This is great for battle belt/open-carry people. As an officer these drills are fantastic. I would love to see this in relation to a concealed carry orientation.
Point with thumbs. Good tip
Thank you for talking about the grip angle. When I say this to others they look at me like a confused dog. Obviously no is talking about grips. All angles change things.
