There was definitely distortion. This is what I've learned. Dave Blight plays a blues bender diatonic harp- this along with a classic dynamic vocal mic allows him to bend notes and create distorted effects.
Ian has a solo career just like Jimmy (maybe not on the same scale as Jimmy - who is without question Australia’s biggest solo male performer having more Number 1 selling albums than any other Australian male artist) but his first solo chart success was Tucker’s Daughter which you should enjoy - written and performed by Mossy. Another Telephone Booth not as big a hit for him as Tucker’s Daughter but a great song. While Jimmy was Chisel’s lead singer Ian often took the lead in a few Chisel songs- his version of Georgia is amazing. Janelle, My Baby and Never Before are three other Chisel tracks where Ian Mossy Moss took the lead and I think you will enjoy. Despite both band members having their own solo careers, Cold Chisel still are “together” as such for National tours of epic proportions every few years and without a doubt are one of the most dynamic live rock bands ever, sadly USA record executives tried to stifle their creative freedom which made them so huge in Australia’s live music scenes and the band told them to shove it and came home to Australia where Jimmy penned You got nothin I want as an Up yours response. Pity the world hasn’t experienced the live magic we had growing up but TH-cam is getting the band some notoriety now decades later remains our most idolised rock band of all time.
This is what you call a “epic” performance. This is what music is all about, thanks heaps for the reaction. You should check out a young Jimmy Barnes covering “a change is gonna come” live in 1984
Bow River is in the Northern Territory, the Great Top End of Australia. (edit) Oops, Actually in Western Australia in the Kimberly Region. Thanks to those that corrected me.
In the Kimberley region ( high country - almost a large oasis between the desert and Indian Ocean ) which is basically the north west corner of Australia......
Yes Ian had a solo career with 2 hits Tuckers Daughter and Telephone Booth. Writen by Don Walker the pianist for Cold Chisle he wrote Bow River and When the War is Over and most of Cold Chisle songs.
Recently Jimmy Barnes was having problems with some medical issues however he's recovered just fine and has already announced his new concerts ...so Barnsey is a TRUE LEGEND to return to performing not long after being in hospital with some major medical issues ❤❤❤
Dave Blight plays a blues bender diatonic harp- this along with a classic dynamic vocal mic allows him to bend notes and create distorted effects (these days harp players prefer bullet mics but fairly sure he’s got a dynamic). But no pedals. I’d guess he is set up to a separate amp with the gain higher than the rest or maybe even a dual amp. Anyway good to see you again, great reaction and look forward to seeing more Chisel and Jimmy from you!! ❤ KAP
@@LizzieRD yeh I guess I dabble in it a fair bit 😂 wouldn’t be able to make my videos without it! Music and Audio engineering is how i spend most of my spare time these days.
@@Ozmarty-uk8fp nice. Apparently Blight has developed his own unique techniques though, he’s a genius at his craft for sure, his true secrets we may never fully come to know 😜 👍
Jimmy Barnes & INXS sing "Good Times" on the Lost Boys soundtrack. Fun fact about that is Kieffer Sutherland turned down his role many times until he heard Barnsey & INXS were gunna be on the soundtrack as he'd been holidaying in Australia & had become huge fans of both Barnsey & INXS, once he was told that he took on the role straight away
Ian Moss had a great solo career also. Ive seen him live a few times (lucky me). But.....jimmy is my first love. As mossy's guitar prowess became even more impressive, as did his solos. His abilities are legendary and beside any other vocalist he'd be tops but Jimmy is like no one else. Cold Chissel are the best because they have 2 amazing vocalist plus Don Walker, a brilliant song writer ( mind you the other band members did a pretty fantastic job too )
Loving the Chisel reactions. Keep ‘em coming! How familiar are you with Midnight Oil? As a live concert fan, you’d appreciate their show “Oils on the Water”. Possibly the most legendary Australian gig ever recorded.
It's phenomenal. And this version is the best one, imo... and yes, Ian had a very successful career in the 90s doing solo stuff. Try "Tuckers Daughter " by Ian Moss. It's pretty good.
I play this with my Gen X band and harp player.. It goes FKN OFF every time!! Thats an "Olympic White" Strat with white pickguard.. Ian likes his tasty Strats..
Ian Moss had a solo career but not as extensive as Jimmy's. Cold Chisel get back together periodically to tour and prior to some of those tours they have got together to record a new album. These tend to happen every four to five years. The last was in 2019/20 and was cut short by covid. Hopefully we get at least one more before they wrap things up.
If you want to hear something kind of cool listen to the Barnestormers "Johnny's Gone" it's got Jimmy, Chris from the Living End, Jools Holland from Squeeze and Slim Jim Phantom from the Stary Cats doing a cover of a Don Walker (Cold Chisel) song. Ian's biggest solo it was probably Tuckers Daughter which was pretty cool.
You say missed a note on the guitar ..he must of hit the note not very hard ..as l was a live sound engineer when listening and mixing threw a PA System at max volume some bits of sound come out the speakers but not so much on the mixing levels on the mixing console for the recording .its not a studio mix..so some parts especially higher frequencys can sound way down in volume. Like missing...but shore come out the speakers loud enough.
Mossy's rendition of Georgia at the 1983 Last Stand concert is a definite must watch.
I 2nd that
Hear hear
Added! Thank you!
Harp played by David Blight, Hall of Famer....and no, there were no "fuzz" effects except what he produced naturally. The guy is a legend.
There was definitely distortion. This is what I've learned. Dave Blight plays a blues bender diatonic harp- this along with a classic dynamic vocal mic allows him to bend notes and create distorted effects.

I have also read that the mouth organ was being fed through either the guitar amp or organ. ?

Yes George that’s the one I’ve been asking him to do too 😂
I 2nd that
Noted! Thank you!
@@espereactions2 if you look back before Christmas you did mention this one was on your list after I requested it 😜 😂
Yes please! I’ll jump on board with a 3rd vote for A Change is Gonna Come 1984 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Actually it’s in the Kimberly WA.
oh wow I am sorry I did not know that, as a West Aussie myself I am ashamed that I did not check my facts.@@LikkieAU
@@LikkieAU There is also a Bow River in southern W.A not far from Walpole but the one being referred to in the song is the one in the Kimberly.

Played in heavy blues band with harp player-small valve amp pushed to get natural 'valve distortion'mic into pa is how he did it.

Jimmy was called up by Eddie Van Halen to replace David Lee Roth but knocked It back then Sammy Hagar was given the spot.
Is that true? There were so many rumors back then. I remember so many names being floated. I'm sure that would sound great though.
These dudes don't need distortion.
listen to Janelle by cold chisel

Turn the volume of your voice DOWN, and the volume of the music UP, would be much more enjoyable to listen too, ok?
