Don't go to Japan thinking you'll live in a tent on public property. The Japanese government considers homeless people social parasites and they have few if any legal rights.

That monastery life where “the Zen is only a very small part of the day” doesn’t sound attractive to me at all. When I was younger I was enchanted by the idea but the reality is far from what I imagined.
