First day post-surgery here. Ready to begin this journey of recovery. It's uncanny how similar our experiences are - I was playing basketball and could have sworn someone had kicked me hard right on the back of my left leg.
Sorry to hear you're in this position - but love to hear the positivity! Injury does feel a bit surreal doesn't it? You may be pleased to hear I am now almost 9 months past surgery and back playing again! All the best in your recovery!!
Same exact thing happened here! I looked around and asked who just hit me. I’m on day 1 post surgery right now, so I’m looking forward to the no pain days!
I have my op in 3 days.. and I will start the recovery. how i ruptured it was literally exactly the same as you... i even shouted 'foul' before i realised no one was there! i did hear it pop, thought it was a boot onto mine. glad to hear that you are playing again... good to hear a good story. i am quite worried about how and if i can play the way i was.
Sorry to hear you’re going through this! It’s rough but I can say I had the same thoughts. Now over a year past, I feel just as sharp and fast as before. Muscle memory is an incredible thing!
Just blew mine yesterday helping two guys push a truck into the tire store I gave him a fist bump went to run back to my car and ankle just exploded so thanks for the video man It gave me a lot of confidence
@@KSPerformance very kind of you for getting back to me thank you. Yeah it's crazy my right Achilles is like iron in my left is like detached jello yeah. I should have just turned left and going to the liquor store but I was like no James don't drink you know and then the next thing you know I'm doing a good deed then the next thing you know f****** for 12 months
My injury was playing ultimate frisbee. I look forward to starting my rehab! I get out of the splint next week, and go into the boot! How are things for you now? How does your Achilles feel?
Sorry to hear about the injury….Seems like you are in good spirits though! I’m now just over a year since the injury and honestly, feel stronger than ever. No fear on pushing off from the injured leg, it feels fine to sprint and jump. Rehab was extremely useful, and I started to play football again after about 6 months. Calf muscle is still a tad smaller than other side but it’s getting much better. Work hard, but smart, in the rehab and you’ll be alright!
Thanks for the video… makes me feel like I’m not alone in this. I wish everyone who is going through this with me a full and fast recovery. With that said would you recommend any specific positions for the injured leg when laying on your back as far as toes pointing a certain direction, how high to have it elevated, etc
All here for support! When in the cast there wasn’t much movement so no choice in position for toes pointing. After the cast, I kept the ankle as ‘normal’ position as possible at all times until rehab had me moving the joint multiple times a day. I aimed to elevate it above my heart to help with preventing swelling. Hope that’s helpful, and good luck on recovery!
No problem, love to reply and show support! These days….couldn’t even tell you it happened! Ankle feels strong, no issues with running/sprinting/jumping. I’d say work hard at the rehab and follow it directly. I would set up timers on my phone to remind to complete exercises and feel that helped with recovery.
@@KSPerformance went to post op this morning and apparently I’ve been doing too much. Was working from my home office and that’s a no no. By the nighttime no amount of pain meds would help. So can’t do that anymore. Also got a pressure wound from the splint. Bummer
Hi! I am 3 and a half months post surgery now and the progress has been great. I am now walking normally for the most part, back into slight jumping activities and agility ladder drills. Once you are cleared to walk without the boot, progress is so fast! Good luck with your recovery! Stay focused on the PT, and be sure to get the mobility back first!
Hi Man Thanks for sharing your experience your videos it really support to others. Any how i got Achilles tendon rupture 5cm gap i plan to make surgery i don't know when exact rupture, with in two week i found some space gap then i consult with doctor that realize. please advice me after three days of surgery how you walk with support pain actual recover weeks i can join office having steps on first floor its manageable need your advice and suggestions.
Hey, thanks for asking. Sorry to hear you're going through this injury! Shortly after surgery (and for a decent time after) I was using crutches to get around. I wasn't able to 'walk' without crutches for a little while to be honest. My advice for post surgery is simply to rest. Following that, listen closely to the doctor and the physical therapy!
Hi, wish you a speedy recovery! Personally I tried my best to stay on my back when sleeping. Sometimes I would rotate my hips to I was on my side (shoulder) but leg still flat. Maybe try that? Good luck!
For me it's a bit different. I used to be a bodybuilder and I never heeded the advice of the doctor. Will the doctor gave me a boot years ago for pain I never wore it. I went back to doing what I was doing and I didn't care. Fast forward a couple years and now the pain is back and it's back with a vengeance. I walked over a thousand miles the past year and I was in real good shape. Then I started feeling the stabbing feeling in the back of my foot. It was excruciating. So I went to the doctor and they referred me to The specialist you took a look at it and told me it was essentially just a sprain but I didn't agree. So I forced an MRI and once I got it came back saying I had Achilles tendinosis as well as quite a few other things. I knew there was something wrong. So he told me I had a couple choices and I chose to not do surgery - he even didn't want surgery, and I went forward. Now somebody with common sense would figure you're hurt, don't exercise. But you already know what I'm going to tell you. I did it anyway. And it got worse. So I started to wear a boot and it didn't really help well, it did it first but not much after. It started to get to the point where no matter what I was doing nothing stopped the pain. There will be days I'll walk around and no pain whatsoever and then when I get home at night that's when it hits me or in the morning that's when it hits me so I said let's get surgery. It's scheduled for a couple days from now and I'm very apprehensive. I really don't want surgery. Couple of my coworkers who've had it before said it's actually a good thing because it'll help you get rid of the pain but I'm confused as to why anybody would want to sit around the house and do nothing
Appreciate you sharing this! I was in the same boat, did not want to be stuck on the sofa! How are you doing now? Surgery go alright? Hope this is encouraging, it's only a small portion of resting. Once you're back into rehab it's exciting to see the progress!
Hi, thanks for your video, which is very helpful. I have a question regarding the aspirin. How often a day and for how long had you been taken the aspirin?
Hi, glad you found the video helpful! For me, I was taking 1 aspirin a day, for approx 4 weeks. Of course, speak with your doctor before taking any medication! Good luck!
@@KSPerformance can you share any experiences on how to make life easier with the cast? What did you do when it e.g started to itch etc? Any tips will be very much appreciated. I am in my first week after surgery and I have very hard time. Thanks
Wish you a speedy recovery! Honestly, I didn't experience much itching when I had the cast. I was lucky there. But overall tips with the cast would be taking it easy, exactly as the doctor says. It's tough, but best thing really is to rest up and let your body go through the healing process! Get something to keep you busy - book, lego etc - and then before you know it, the cast will be off! Good luck!
Hey Jeff, I had the same thoughts! When I was elevating, I rested my calf on the pillow and basically had my Achilles barely resting on the pillow. After a few days it wasn’t as bad but at first I was very careful where I placed my leg!
How are you 1 year post surgery? I also tore my achilles and went the op route. I'm 3 days post op and so far feeling the exact way you describe your experience. Have you been able to go back to "normal" from this injury?
Hi, sorry to hear you'e going through this! Now I'm past 12 months from the surgery and I feel amazing. Honestly, can barely even tell the injury happened. I'm able to run, cut and sprint all the same now, with not much difference in speed too. There is still some size difference in the muscle, and every now and then some psychological block when playing sports, but overall it's fine! Good luck on your recovery! Feel free to ask any questions, I'll be happy to help!
@@KSPerformance thanks for the reply! Great to hear you’re doing well. As an athlete, I was worried if my performance or overall mobility outside of sports/fitness will ever be the same. @@KSPerformance thanks man. I've since called and left a message. will update with doc's response. also, when you sleeping, did you keep foot elevated or just flat as you'd normally sleep?
Yeah I mean also worth checking with the doctor to see. I felt like having the foot down every now and then helped. When I was sleeping I had my foot elevated. Maybe not as high as throughout the day, just in case I rolled, I didn’t want my foot to fall!
@@KSPerformance As time went on I felt less and less discomfort with my foot being down. I think it probably was just still healing and the blood flow just was "too much" to handle from foot being elevated to immediately being down. When you got your aircast, did you sleep with it on? If so did you keep it on tight or..?
Hi, it was a soft cast that I had on my leg. I understand your worries, but the soft cast I had did not cause me any discomfort! I'm not sure if you have the option, but maybe bring the concern up to the doctor and see if they can choose the best option!
