Yesterday I watched Robert helping Dawn with her “Bus by association” and now today he is helping you. He is everyone’s hero. It is wonderful to have good friends but nothing can compare to an honest mechanic. 😊 A real treasure! It was nice of him to explain everything but I have to admit all that stuff is Greek to me and I was lost after a minute. 😳. So happy the Texas Peach is ready for the road.
$700? That's it?? He did so much needed work at a great price. Kudos for him. Remember, the mechanics of the buss is the is the most important part of the buss so do as much as you can now!
Not gonna lie Jaylena-when you said your temp gauge never moved my first thought was the same as Robert's. Glad he put that in on the house as a caring person. You can tell he's one of the good ones. One step closer to putting that bus to work as an adventure machine.
Wow, what a great job. God bless Robert. Having a good mechanic is like having a good doctor that you can trust. I know $700 is a lot of money, but when he started explaining all they did I was expecting $1000 +. Sounds like they got rid of a lot of future potential problems and fixed some issues that have been going on a long time. You will need a defroster up in Oregon. I suggest getting an external heater/fan that sets on your dash by going to Harbor freight or ordering one from Amazon it should plug into 12 volt outlet. That has got to make you feel better, whewwew. Again kudos to Robert jeepin! 😀🥰✌️
Most say those little heaters don't work...by the power draw...they can't really cuz can't get much power out of the little 22ga wires used for the power outlets
Keep that mechanic. He knows what he's talking about, and he give thorough correct explanations. Mechanics don't take the time to do that. Whether he did it just for YT or not, at least what he said was correct IMO. Also, I prefer the way he did the AC delete by converting back to the factory Non AC option rather than go with aftermarket delete pully and tensioner. Here's why that's important. When and if you get stranded and lose a belt and need to replace it, if it was aftermarket, you might try several belts and not get the right one. Now, you can simply look in the book and see what it calls for in your year model WO AC and the belt will be correct for your application. I'm always yelling at the computer watching YT when I see people do WRONG crap or leading people in the WRONG direction. He's on target with everything he said. I didn't yell at the computer 1 time, LOL, so keep him.
Celebrating your win over here! $700 isn't small, but sooo much better than what other shops would've charged AND he was fully transparent with what they did and why. I have saved Robert's info in my phone. He will def be worth the drive from Cottage Grove. Relieved that the TX Peach is in really good shape. I can only imagine how you feel now! that's what should be done at every repair shop either by the mechanic or a service manager if they have one,if they don't find another shop in fact most states require the repair shop to offer the customer the old parts that were replaced and give them the option of taking them with them or not, if it was me I would have kept the old brackets so if I wanted to reinstall the ac in the future i could
Well I guess it is safe to say that Robert and the shop did you a solid. I’m very impressed to say the least. I’m going to recommend the shop to a friend who lives in Eugene.

I would highly suggest that you write all your belt part numbers somewhere under the hood or in the door jam close to the vin number sticker where it would be easily found by any mechanic. Question, why would you delete the a/c instead of fix it?

Have Robert recommend someone that can do the job . If it was summer you could wait but girl winter is coming .... $700 was a good price for all he worked on ! Jaylena you just might need a heater because where you’re living now the windows are going to frost up And in order to keep them clear you have to have the heat on them you didn’t need that before in the warmer climates just a thought So glad it’s running and it’s running great

a good shop that treats you fair is invaluable and it seems you found a good one id go see him once a year and get him to do a complete check up to try to prevent breakdowns

While repairing the dash heater/defroster should be done, remember you can always pivot your (NAPA)fan to blow on the windshield. I'd also write down the belt size and take photos of how it's routed around the pulleys. Likely your underhood diagram includes the A/C and your belt doesn't follow that pattern anymore. The dash heater is usually pretty simple, if you use a test light or multimeter you could trace the power to find out the fault. Dash switch to relay, ballast resistor for various speeds, the fan motor itself. A jumper wire from the battery to the (+) wire on the fan can determine if the motor is OK.
That's good news, glad you got it fixed, and so cool with the mechanic, how he broke it all down for you in what he had done and even he has charged you a good fair price to do all that. I'm with you, it's not easy to find a good honest mechanic, most, not all take advantage that whether women know or not about mechanical issues, would over charge and saying they had to do this or that when that extra this or that would give them extra money in their pockets and burn yours out at the same time. When did this happen? I know when you get broken ribs, the doctors tell you there is nothing they can do for it and they send you home and it hurts to even take a small breath. I told my sister and fiance I am not taking this sitting down. I can't even imagine living in that pain. About 200 for water pump and hoses...serpentine belt 75, auto belt tensioner 75, radiator cap 25, antifreeze @ $15/gallon....and...4-10 hours labour with adjusting headlights, switching fuses and the repairs

About 200 for water pump and hoses...serpentine belt 75, auto belt tensioner 75, radiator cap 25, antifreeze @ $15/gallon....and...4-10 hours labour with adjusting headlights, switching fuses and the repairs

That was a good mechanic, not many of those left, it's a good sign when they show you all the old parts and show all the new stuff they put on.
