  • Scene nodes have been an underhyped feature of C4D since release. As far as I can see it is an essential switch of attitude by Maxon that is essential for the survival of the software. Thing are not perfect yet, and there is a lot left to do, but there are already a bunch of useful applicaitons- and we need to start using them more so Maxon can improve.
    Today we're going to do a popular technique that has been created many time before in normal cinema4d, but this time in scene nodes, which gives us a higher level of creative control and also lets us visuallize the technique in a more intuitive way. Hope you enjoy.
    What do you think of scene nodes? Cool, annoying or both? Any feedback on the video presentation is also welcome so I can make this better and better.

      I still can’t find anyone who can encapsulate exactly “why” scene nodes over normal workflows. I see how it’s working, but seems to be introducing a new level of abstraction to the creative process. It feels somehow like I’m kinda coding to get a result. What was wrong with an object list with children and effectors etc that could be “read”. I feel like I’m cooking with boxing gloves on. Maybe I’m missing something.

      fair dude. You could get this result from the video from the normal method, but I still prefer scene nodes as the layout for this kind of stuff. Scene nodes allow you to do some pretty clever stuff too you couldn't do in normal C4D. I'm going to try make a new video soon to explain, but really, it allows you to start playing with loops and iterations, which is a brand new way of creating complexity, especially over time @@fiveshorts

    This is a great intro to scene nodes, thank you for creating the video. I personally think that nodes in C4D can be very powerful but is extremely undercooked with very little direction on how it can be useful doing the usual task or rigs. That is what the Blender communirty is doing really well is showing how nodes can create fantastic optimal tools.
    I think what is really missing is people teaching how nodes can be used in real application, like being able to draw splines and it created a mushroom or a road traffic system.

      appreciate the thoughtfulness of this comment mate, I agree wholeheartedly! For sure there are a few problems with it still that don't make it ideal, but the other half is community involvement which is missing right now for sure, we need to pull our socks up!

    I don't know why I used to hate nodes. But somehow nodes on Cinema 4D just make sense for me.

      you can't fault Maxon for their usability, thats for sure! just gotta poke them to release more features now haha

    Thanks for the video, and definitely more scene nodes! Also besides versatility of the technique itself would you say this method also increases performance? Or is it basically the same as the standard (non nodal) workflow?

    Is it possible to render scene nodes with Octane?

    • @JackKeDesign
      @JackKeDesign  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not actually tried it, have a go at dropping it into the material tag. If it doesn't work, you could bake/export it first into normal c4d and then texture it as normal I believe

      Hi. It seems like I found how solve this problem. When you chose Object group in Generator tab you need to select Render Instance instead of Multiinstanse.

    • @JackKeDesign

      as close as we've got currently! blenders geo nodes are a lot more powerful than c4d currently from what I can see. Hopefully that will change!
