Me some highschool classmates in the Japanese class here participated in the program SMAP for youth and we got to talk directly with a lot of Ritsumeikan highschoolers with whom we created projects. Good times, good times.
I'd been waffling about whether to include Beppu on our Japan trip. This is actually making me lean toward going, now, as someone with weak Japanese language skills.
i think it's a great thing! I've always wanted to go far away from home and do my best and study in these amazing environments, but due to my family's financial situation all i have is public university here in italy, which is already cheap since the fees are 2400€ max per year and every region has scholarship oprtions and the university has a fee reduction in case those don't go through. I am able to attend university without paying any tuition thanks to that, only paid the 16€ that is required for the government papers. I think it's a decent learning experience but nowhere near the experience students have at a large university campus. in my city the university has very spread out and small "campus" for different fields of study. for example mine is economics and accounting and my "campus" is just 2 buildings in the middle of the city, and i feel like, at least for and introvert like me, this doesn't help me with talking to other students because there is no common place to go and talk or do school activities that is not a small library or someone's house, and it's very difficult to just get invited into a stranger's house like that. Nevertheless I'm still working hard to get my degree and hopefully find a job not long after.
I have a question for the APU staff, what is their policy towards "mature" students? I had to drop out of academic endeavours much earlier that I would like in order to take care of my disabled mother (I was around 20) who suffers from MS. I am now 36 and I would love to be able to get back into education, something that would be all but impossible for me here in the UK due to the costs (let's just say that being a carer has left me living below the poverty level).
I’m a student here now actually and there are a few mature students around either doing undergraduate or graduate level studies. They usually just enter as normal students, there’s no real special policy towards them that I know of. I know some are able to bring their family over with them in some cases as well if that’s a factor for you I’m not a staff member so perhaps there’s other things I don’t know, perhaps shooting an email to admissions office would give a detailed answer? I definitely recommend applying if you’re interested in going back to school though or in learning some different cultures/languages ^^
@@saMANchaful Thanks so much for your answer, I'll be sure to fire off an email to them, it's also a relief to know that there are already older students there, though I have to admit that I quite relish the chance to be surrounded by younger people as I physically and mentally don't feel any different to how I felt when I was in my 20's and honestly I feel like I missed out on those years due to my situation. Thank you again for answering me, I hope everything goes great with your studies and your time over there!
This was the only Japanese university I would have considered (as a Japanese national brought up in English education), because of its diversity and since it was one of the only universities that offered a fully English degree in business in Japan. Usually universities in Japan only offer fully English liberal arts degrees, which was not I was looking for.
Can't complain about my life, but I kinda wish I was 20 years younger... xD Though I'm not really sure if I'd qualify for a scholarship or exchange program one way or another, I did try applying to a Rotary based interchange program back several years ago after I graduated in CompSci, but the line was too long, and spots for it were limited, and the top candidates all had perfect English and Japanese language skills which I didn't (this was for post graduates), so it ended up not happening. I'm kinda curious as to how it would've gone... back then I hadn't even visited Japan yet (been there twice as of now), and now I'm also a Journalism graduate, needless to say lots of things changed. xD Still, awesome to see this coming from Dogen, knowing how much experience he has there... it's also impressive how more widespread this sort of information is becoming nowadays thanks to TH-cam and Internet in general. I'd be far more confident and convinced if I had a video like this one available plus all the other channels that talks openly about their own experiences. Seems there will be great opportunities for cultural exchanges in Japan in the future... great video!
This is so crazy cause my university offers Ritsumeikan in Kansai I believe? for study abroad options and I was between this school or one in Tokyo. I think I'll be choosing Ritsumeikan, I've heard and read so many wonderful things about it and the program.

I wish I'd known about this kind of opportunity when I was that age, particularly being under the poverty level all my life. Leaving the country for anything seems an unachievable dream. I wonder if they accept adult students as well as fresh high school graduates?
I'm sure they accept adults as well, but I think its difficult getting a scholarship. I am currently an undergraduate student at this university, and I have friends in their late 20's, and early 30's.
Great video! I just had a question about whether or not APU accepts transfer applicants from students graduating from junior colleges and that are planning on applying to 4 year universities. I know this is not specifically about applying to become an undergraduate but I wanted to know if you were able to apply from a junior college. Thanks!
Actually I’m starting Japanese soon and my masters in world studies. I lived in Japan for four years and my family wants to get back to live permanently as my wife is Filipino and wants to be close to home. Do they have any US affiliated schools? Any additional info would be great as I am looking to start my next stage of life!
Do you have any age limit to admit students? I'm a software engineer working in the silicone valley and studying Japanese at a local community college during my spare time. I am very interested in your school. I am not sure if I am too old for your school.

What about other part time jobs in the area? When I went to a community college in America, that was one thing I hated. There was such a long waiting list for college related job, as well as jobs within the city.
thank you for your question! on campus we have variety of job opportunity such as serving at Cafeteria and a shop, a teaching assistant, a language buddy, and even cleaning service on campus. and even off campus, students are allowed to work as a part time worker with a work permit so you can find a wide range of opportunity.
thank you for your question. It is quite difficult to tell you exactly how much interaction they have but basically we always encourage them to mingle together through courses and extracurricular activities. As one example, in our language course, we require an international student to study Japanese and a domestic Japanese student to study English so they do not feel too much language barriers.
I'm currently a university student majoring in japanese, but I always wanted to do a 2nd degree, can someone like me apply as well? And if you get accepted can you do part time jobs? because my friend is in japan now, and he can't.
I'm not sure about second degrees, but it's certainly possible to transfer, and there are many different part time jobs available to , though I believe there may be a limit (20 hours?) on how many hours a week individuals with student visa's can work.
thank you for your question! sure, you can come to an APU' undergraduate program as your 2nd degree. A part time job depends on their visa status and if they have a student visa and apply for work-permission, they will be allowed to work for up to 28 hours during a semester period and for 40 hours during breaks.
This is also my only option, I'm currently undergrad in my country, I deferred applying here and will proceed for 2nd degree. So no one will oppose anymore..
I studied Japanese before coming to Japan, but due to the lack of my Japanese ability, I was rejected from the university. I wasn't even aware that you could enter the university with zero experience. I was 'saved' by another university in Aichi when they mentioned an international course that was fully in English. APU mentioned nothing about these international courses.
As someone who graduated with a Master's Degree in Accounting and Finance, 5:32 I'd love to see how this guy explain tax treatment for non-intangible assets and how it is presented in any financial statement. Wait till you experience deferred tax, you gonna absolute hate accounting.

I'm sure they accept adults as well, but I think its difficult getting a scholarship. I am currently an undergraduate student at this university, and I have friends in their late 20's, and early 30's.
@@yattadesune8837 I’ve heard bad things about the teaching and academics there , have they gotten better or were they never as bad as some say?
@@yattadesune8837 how old are you??
Great video!
looks really cool!
Great video! I just had a question about whether or not APU accepts transfer applicants from students graduating from junior colleges and that are planning on applying to 4 year universities. I know this is not specifically about applying to become an undergraduate but I wanted to know if you were able to apply from a junior college. Thanks!
Transfers are definitely possible! Because of all the variables involved, contact Admissions directly to ask about your specific situation.
Does anyone know if the letter of recommendation is actually a requirement to have your application be accepted?
Actually I’m starting Japanese soon and my masters in world studies. I lived in Japan for four years and my family wants to get back to live permanently as my wife is Filipino and wants to be close to home. Do they have any US affiliated schools? Any additional info would be great as I am looking to start my next stage of life!
Do you have any age limit to admit students? I'm a software engineer working in the silicone valley and studying Japanese at a local community college during my spare time. I am very interested in your school. I am not sure if I am too old for your school.
do all the international students with tuition reduction scholarship get the JASSO scholarship? and whats the duration of this scholarship?
Did anyone else notice the jozu?
My friend is Spero, thank you for giving the opportunity to share his story to a wider audience. He is good friend to all of us here at APU. It is a great honor for us that he represents us for the 2nd years. Sorry for my bad English 🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 (3)
To think i would hear Dōgen saying someone jōzu. It hits different.
Thank you 🙏
How much interaction do foreign students have with Japanese students?
thank you for your question. It is quite difficult to tell you exactly how much interaction they have but basically we always encourage them to mingle together through courses and extracurricular activities. As one example, in our language course, we require an international student to study Japanese and a domestic Japanese student to study English so they do not feel too much language barriers.
Is it possible to study the history of a specific church in Japan in APU? As a bunject it would fall under history or religion or christian studies.
thank you for your question but unfortunately we do not offer courses regarding a history of a church in Japan.
@@APUAdmissionsOffice Thank you for your answer
Try Doshisha, it’s also a global university and a christian one on top of that
I'm 30, I guessing im too old to apply and move countries to study
I'm 33. I'm going to APU this April attending master degree in Economics, moving to Japan. There is no limit of age to study. Believe me.
100 yen breakfast at uni sounds so good, my uk uni has a £2 lunch option which is a (disappointing) soup with bread😔
I applied but my I don't or they wont fund my education here
How to apply? Can Indians go there and are there any Courses in english? For Post graduate level.
😊 thanks for info
Im going to Shinshu University in two months to study Japanese!
As their admissions page said and dogen transferring in 2nd year might be ideal
How abt ICU in Tokyo! It similar to this university☺️☺️
100 yen breakfast is insane. I can't buy an unheated can of beans for $1.
is it possible to register for this uni if im halfway through my college or to look into ?
thank you! sure you can apply to APU while you are in a college but if you decide ton enroll, you have to drop out from your current college.
Yes
man now I'm regretting going to college in the US
Oh my god what is this? A treat?
Wish my study abroad wasn't cancelled 3 years in a row
laughing my ass off to Dogen うんing in english conversations
GO SALLY SPERO & SHERLY 🤍🤍🤍
Really wanted to watch this, but the music is too distracting ;s
Hearing the cost of the school and the rent, makes me legitimately angry about U.S universities
I don't think you were rejected because of not knowing Japanese, unless you were applying to the Japanese track
I couldn't find the "nihongo jouzu" joke
As someone who graduated with a Master's Degree in Accounting and Finance, 5:32 I'd love to see how this guy explain tax treatment for non-intangible assets and how it is presented in any financial statement. Wait till you experience deferred tax, you gonna absolute hate accounting.
