    As a retired truck driver it's nice to see an old school driver that still uses the Thomas Bros. Map Book instead of that GPS. I feel that all truck drivers should know how to use the map book and be familiar with all major HI ways interstates and freeways. Look forward to you're next video.

    Wow, this is a great route, it could become my favorite route.fantastic this grandiose wide wide wide wide landscape. This wondrous solitude, these few cars coming towards you. I would turn around and drive this outstanding route again. Except at night, when it's more difficult.

    I remember back in the late 60’s they said we would be out of oil by now. Well, that was another prediction that those people made didn’t come true. Boy, there must of been a lot of those dinosaurs to make all that oil. Pretty ride through the mountains. Now I can say I have been to Dinosaur. I always use paper maps, even today. Thank you.

    • @wernerdanler2742
      @wernerdanler2742 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not the dinosaurs that the oil comes from, it's all the vegetation that was around in that age.
      They have more sophisticated methods of finding it now. That's why they can keep finding it.

    Outstanding scenery! That side road is just for any dinosaurs that are still hanging out! Surely you know about the avalanches on I-70 and the giant nearby rock falls! SLC had incredibly good breakfasts! This is Mtn Goat country at Doug Pass!! And maybe theres some Bighorn Sheep too! Those balls that you called out may be for wind motion detection, or flag the powerlines for low flying aircraft?? This video is only one or two days old! Like being there in real time!! Those dinosaurs most surely had AWD! Thanks Mike!! Peace!

    Such incredible vistas! Definitely a mountain pass road for sure. Reminds me of Hwy 36E, Hwy 44, and Hwy 89, in Northern California (Specifically traveling east from Red Bluff off Hwy 99, through Payne’s Creek, Mineral, Child’s Meadows, Chester, Lake Almanor, Susanville, and Quincy, on the way to Truckee and Reno.) Next time you find yourself in that area and heading either way, you shouldn’t miss it. Safe travels brother.

    I was just over that pass last Saturday, and it was still really green up there. The temperature on the south side at the bottom was 82 deg F. but once we had topped over it was a chilly 58 deg F. thanks to a thunderstorm that was rolling through. Oh, and I have found that no matter how fast that you're going, there will always be someone who has to pass you.

    They drill then fracture (fack) the rock substrate to open multiple pockets of product. It increases the pool size that they then extract from. They can do almost the same with turning the bit and going horizontal but the frack goes in multiple directions all at one time hence cheaper than drilling multiple horizontal runs through the substrate.

    12:57 Those balls hanging off of the lines are often used to provide a visual object to see that - that there is a wire hanging low. I have seen them also at greater heights such as between power high voltage transmission lines, but they are more widely spaced that the ones here -- partly because the towers are also a good indicator that there is a transmission wire strung between them. In this case, the wires are fairly low and at a height where a helicopter could easily be working in terrain inspection of other low level operations. You may argue that flags could be used. Yes, but from experience it has been found they tend to get torn in the wind and blow off. These balls are more durable.
    One other reader has suggested they are for cutting down vibrations on the wires. They may do that, but the scientific view is as I have stated above. There are many references on the 'net that confirm what I have stated.

    • @trixier6505
      @trixier6505 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used to think they were filled with helium to help keep the wires aloft.

    • @jdofmemi
      @jdofmemi 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I remember in the 80s it was closed for several years due to a huge slide, then the year after it opened, it slid again and was closed for another year or so.
      Smaller slides are almost yearly. All the groundwater and springs keep the mountain lubricated and ready to move.

    From Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_Pass
    Douglas Pass (elevation 8268 feet)
    The summit gives an unusual view of the northeast face of the LaSal Mountains (twelve peaks over 12,000 feet) at 95 air miles away in Utah
    The mountain consists of shale strata belonging to the Green River Formation, good exposures of which can be seen on the south side of the pass.

    BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY THOUGH.ARE THOSE RANCHES?

    • @lcollins4313
      @lcollins4313 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The one coming off the pass was a homestead in 1800’s but still used up into the late 60’s. as a cabin for cattlemen help. It’s called the 7bar K ( 7k) clipped version. The buildings are pretty run down now, and the corrals. Used to round up and separate cows from their calves there. Never thought it would deteriorate this bad ever. Looks like there is a ranch house just past the homestead place but out of view on the right by the grated road. I lived there in those old cabins in early 60’s. The pass was much more beautiful back then and the Grand Junction side was a heck of a lot scarier. It was a graded dirt road back then. They cut a huge junk out of the passage to put paved road through. There were times the road was closed to major slides and road was completely gone. Most traffic would go around to Craig - Meeker then.

I love the driving in traffic ones and weather ones. I live in Wyoming and go to Colorado quite a bit! What’s your thoughts on the I-70 wreck that happened? Horrific! Douglas Pass (elevation 8268 feet) is a mountain pass in Colorado traversed by State Highway 139. It is not an especially high summit relative to other Colorado passes, and the road, though reasonably steep on the south side (7%), has no tight spots and only a few switchbacks.
