Yo this mechanic was used in half life 2 to create small combine fire teams and made the game more interestimg as tactics like taking cover or providing cover fire. Nice see they added this into gmod.
By default in GMOD all combine npc’s are in the same squad, this mod makes them dynamically split up into different squads and adds some new behaviors outside combat.
Now if you actually inspect how a fight with combine soldiers in HL2 goes you realize the hidden complexity of the enemies. The shotgunners will lie in wait to ambush you, while the standard grunts try to flush you out of the area you're camped inside of into the barrel of a shotgunner. Sometimes one of the shotgunners will get behind a destructible wall and when someone throws a grenade the shotgunner is able to surprise you. Meanwhile some the grunts have begun to flank you.
The combine are actually smarter than you think. They flank, don't suppress melee enemies, flush out enemies, and more. They're more tactical than you think.
Also a small thing about it, if you go into the console and type "developer 1" to enable developer mode, you can see text saying what NPCs are doing, so the combine will say that they've joined a squad/created a squad, acquired a target and are moving to assault, nothing revolutionary but its pretty cool to have to see what they're up to
I've noticed that npc fights are very bias towards the friendly npcs, and basically one rebel can take down 2 - 3 combines alone with and without dynamic or any other ai enhancement mods, so putting even numbers of combine and rebels, will mostly always be a rebels victory
Yeah I think that doesn't make sense to me unless if they're being accompanied by Gordon Freeman. Because, how does one group with little to no armor and no prior tactical training can win the same group, but fully armed and trained to use their weapons to its best capability. Well of course I do understand that is done to make the rebels don't die easily but, well the best excuse for that right now is that they're on the good side, plus having medics.
Its because friendlier npc(Rebels) proficiency(aim) is always set to very good or perfect, while the Combine proficiency is set to good or normal maybe even worst I'm not sure. There were mods that allow you to pick the proficiency for both hostile and friendly npc but their broken I'm not sure why though. Also maybe, and I'm not sure but I think the rebels have more hp than the combine.
@@Numeristic another comment explained it because it makes Half-Life 2 easier by making the bullet spread of the Combine and the Rebels different. The Combine have higher bullet spread than the Rebels so almost all fights between them are completely one sided.
Combine this with some sort of natural behaviour type of NPC work, for example Make them explore the map in squads, be able to set up base [zones] which tells the NPC this is your home so you can sit on those chairs or lay down on the floor and so on.

Fighting on open field is one thing which, to be honest, doesnt show well the power of the Squad AI (besides moving in the groups of 4). It would be better to show them in more tight, cover rich environment (since HL Combine AI was build for it, classical case like 2 fire while other 2 reload, One flanking others provide suppressive fire)
I think the reason rebels beat the combine was that their accuracy is increased since they are your allies. Also, a map with cover would be a better demonstration of squad mechanics provided that it has AI nodes and navmesh. I would recommend using the HL2 sandboxifier addon since HL2 maps are great for AI battles
the main reason combine lost against the rebels is because of the difference in hp, rebels have more hp than combine for some reason, that's because in half life if the hp was the same the combat would be to difficult to participate in, so usually combine npc's have less health, hunters in the other hand have more hp which means that they can be more effective in combat, maybe you can fiddle around with the health and see what's perfect

Can confirm, I tried it and made a stealth level on a train map. Probably one of the most fun and immersion I've had in this game. Really makes NPCs come to life
You know what I want? A charge mod, so many units stay static and while this mod exists, I kinda wanted them to all march forward in unison, something like a WW1 offensive.
Hey necros you got glue library or any other mods done by that creator he's been either hacked or he is throwing a tantrum, I wouldn't start the game up with them installed otherwise you will see some horrid images that I can't get outta my head
@@9s322 Basically, a modder who made Glue Library, Action Extension and a couple others, either got hacked or went into a tantrum. Whatever the case may be, their mods have a screamer implanted into it. So whenever you went ingame and pressed any key, you'd get goatse'd and a loud noise of a dude moaning would play, as well as some lines in the console saying "FUCK YOU"

Mind you I haven't finished the video yet but I'm pretty sure that the rebels and the combines fighting with this pack enabled would be better if they were in different sectors from each other so it would give them time to advance towards one another rather than being immediately put into battle where when they are able to structure a formation moving towards their target it allows more of a tactical movement I swear without doing that they're all in the same spot some are moving up and some are moving back because they don't have time to actually move which is confusing the AI therefore making them stationary for 90% of the fight

PLEASE HELP is there any way how to make new attacks (moveset) for npc ? Like l Wana play as an npc but their attacks are sooo cheap animated and most without sound. I Wana add custom attacks for them like you can do on dreams. Is thst possible ? I'm afraid not unless l mod them outside of gmod with an other software or not? Also the npcs always have multipe attacks on 1 button which sucks, want it to be 1 button for each attack
i love watching the rebels and combine fight, so this is a great and cool mod! p.s. if anyone else wants to do this i would recommend that you download a mod that improves the combine, as it improves the ai which honestly is really crappy
@@plug360 if you want a big map to run around and shoot stuff then rp_dowtown v2 is good. You can also download a navmesh from the workshop separately so NPCs know where to go Its got buildings with breakable windows and props, elevators, sewers everything
I'm using the ww2 American npc and ww2 Soviet npc mods and if they are to far away from eachother they won't fight eachother is there anyway to make them be able to detect eachother from longer distances?
I installed this mod for Gmod and it won’t stay selected after I select it in the addons page so in game the mod won’t work . Any solution on how to fix this please ?

Well i cant play gmod right now because there is a virus in a Bunch of addons i use a lot where it shows an image of a Guy spreading his Butt to a Level i thought was impossible. Edit: the addons are Glue Libary, View Extension, Action extension and Some Others.
@Doomer Catboy Unsubscribe the mods mentioned by the original poster. Glue Libary, View Extension, Action Extension, and Ambient-Occlusion. Make sure you do menu_cleanupgmas in the console afterwards to make sure it's removed.
@Doomer Catboy There's a discussion post on the GMod Steam Discussions where one of the modders Matsilagi uploaded the uninfected versions of those mods. So if you want to keep on using those mods, it's still entirely possible. I would try and link it, but I think TH-cam cancelled my comment because I had a link in it.

that is made to balance out half-life 2, so that your squads on late chapters dont die too easily
Use VJ base mod with SNPC's.

I guess this allows you to do a stealth thing where you could try and avoid patrolling squads
