- I play a Magic the Gathering Online Legacy league with Eldrazi Aggro, a deck from Patreon subscriber Claire. Modern Horizons 3 brought the Eldrazi archetype a ton of new tools. Sowing Mycospawn is one of the craziest role players possible. It facilitates ramp for you big Eldrazi and mana denial for your aggro plans, while being a respectable body on its own. Glaring Fleshraker keeps the bodies and damage coming, all you have to do is cast spells. And Kozilek's Command completely flips what opponents can expect out of an Eldrazi deck that used to be all creatures, now it has a powerful modal spell that offers removal, ramp, card selection, and graveyard hate all in one tight package. Do not take this the wrong way but after a few videos in a row of not legacy content its nice to see you are ending the week with my favourite format.
I do curate my releases to center legacy, even when I’m getting more modern requests.

I am with you there. I watch Legacy because I like the format and can't afford it. Otherwise, the only other content I will watch is Pauper.
@@Martian_Manhunter yeah, it's really frustrating that money is a barrier to the best format and wizards actively neglecting it. tough to get new people in this way. tournament hosts really should start letting people allow to proxy reserved list cards and just require non-reserved list cards to be owned in original print.
What a time we live in, when Reality Smasher no longer makes the cut for an aggressive Eldrazi deck.

There is an interaction with It That Heralds and Kozilek’s Command. Steps to casting a spell has you first declaring things like modes and values of X, at that point it’s set and impacts the mana value. After that you apply cost increase/reductions. If X=5 or more you will get the discount.
Yup, this is correct. Brian might have been thinking of the fact that cards that reference the mana value of the card (as opposed to the spell) do exclude Kozilek's Command, since the MV of the card is 2 (as X is presumed 0 until it is proposed as a spell).
Choose X/Modes/Additional Costs, choose targets, apply cost increases, apply decreases, Trinisphere check, then decide how to pay (first mana abilities, then other methods of payment).
It’s all very simple really. Can’t believe seasoned magic players get it wrong (hopefully my sarcasm is obvious)

@@stephentimothybennett Just to say this is also not correct, cards which care about cards not spells but involve casting still function with choices made on the stack, one of the best examples of this is lier with adventures (you are able to cast the adventure side of a creature from the graveyard with flashback with lier, and the flashback cost would be the cost of the adventure side), similarly if a card says you can cast cards with mana value Y or greater from somewhere and you cast an X spell choosing X to be a value which meets that stipulation of Y then you are able to cast the spell.
10:45 Devourer of Destiny is definitely 7 mana so it can specifically pitch to Ugin’s Labyrinth, though that’s more of a thing in formats besides legacy

Herald DOES synergize with Command, due to the order in which cost is determind.
First, you declare casting.
Declaring casting means that you first determine any modes, then any targets, then any values that can be determined.
After you do so, you place the spell onto the stack and move to "paying costs", which first starts with determining the amount of mana you WILL pay for it.
Since you already decided at an earlier step that you put the spell on the stack x=5, the card has a cmc of 7 during the "determining reductions and increases" atep of casting a spell.
3:15 Minor note about Devourer of Destiny. It is sort of selection of the top 5 cards, not 4 cards.
You MAY put one back then exile the rest. Meaning you can say "These are all bad". The equivalent of shuffling your ponder when you'd rather draw blind.
Kozilek's Command and It that Heralds the End do synergize. You declare the value of X when you put the card on the stack. So even if you only have 6 mana with the It that Heralds in play, you can put the command on the stack chooing X=5 and pay 6 mana total.

You had the interaction between it that heralds and kozilek’s command backwards. You do use the value of X as part of the mana cost to determine whether it qualifies because x is already chosen by the time you are paying costs.
A local to me has an eldrazi deck I've played against a bunch called "spaghetti western" that's eldrazi + BW dead guys ale, he's on some new red green eldazri stuff now, similar to this, it's great.
Mycospawn is such a dope card! The build I’ve enjoyed seeing it in the most has been Mono G Post, where I’ve seen people cutting reclaimer to run it instead, and the land tutor has seemingly even more utility.
here's my hot take: The eldrazi (and cloudpost) support is the coolest and most fun addition of the new set.

Love seeing the eldrazi return! Its so good to see my favorite creature type getting the love it deserves.
The mention of its history brought back the name it had back when I was CRUSHING the deck as Nic Fit. The first named-topout I saw called it “What About MUDrazi?” It was 2016…
Love that this deck is actually pretty budget if you're a modern player. If you substitute the 1-of City of Traitors, the other legacy only cards are actually quite affordable.
This might actually be the first legacy deck that I'll get in paper.

In game 2 round 4 you can cast koz command for 0 and draw 1 scy 0 card.

- 00:24:30 FYI. Don't know if it's addressed later, but ITHTE does in fact reduce the mana cost of a Kozilek's Command for X = 5 or larger. It's because you first choose the modes and targets, then choose X, then you check for any reductions/additions based on the chosen modes/values (this is where Herald affects it), [Trinisphere goes here], then you pay costs, and then you put it on the stack.

Round 3 you interpreted the interaction between it that heralds and the command wrong. When casting the spell, the last thing you do is pay costs. The spell is on the stack as a 7 cost before you have to pay (but if you can't pay the game gets rewound)

It's listed as one of my finishes on MTGGoldfish, the game in the video was my trophy match. Currently I swapped the second Birgi for another Jeskas Will, but I will probably replace it with a maindeck Elemental Eruption

Keep in mind you can also surveil away all four cards off Devourer and take the fifth card of your deck instead!

46:21 Painter turning your spells colors is an interesting interaction, but doesn't painter also turn itself (and everything else) into legal targets for Devourer. Could you have held onto Command there and kill Painter with Devourer on your next turn?
Nulldrifter could instead be eternal scourge who combos well with the pregame effects dude.
You're ~40% to have a 4-of in an opening 7. So more than half of games you'll end up with a 3 mana 3/3 in your deck with no synergy because you didn't start with Devourer. The 40% of the time you do have Devourer, you're ~25% to hit a Scourge in your top 4 look if you're playing 4 copies, so 75% of those outcomes you end up with a 3 mana 3/3 with no synergy in your deck. You're also exactly as likely to have Scourge as Devourer in your opening hand, which means you miss 80% of the time in your top 4 look. If you're replacing 3 Nulldrifter with 3 Scourge, then you're 20% and 14% instead of 25 and 20 to hit. That's a lot of unfavorable math for small synergy and at the opportunity cost of not having better cards in your deck than Eternal Scourge.
This isn't a dunk, just a deckbuilding lesson for folks who read the comments. The difference between being aware of a cute interaction and successfully building a deck is frequently just math. :)

You really seem to be scared of them. Reanimating the null drifter... But they don't get to draw because it's a cast trigger. So it's not that terrible. I mean yeah it's an annihilator one, but that's beatable.

Mimic ist terrible. Eye of Ugin is nuts with Fleshraker, you can create some absurd turns with that, chainging Thought-Knots and Mycospawns and Commands into each other
They should unban everything in Modern and start over with a fresh metagame.
