Certainly one of the best reference for D-50 users: JMJ simply used that synth for over 80% of this album. Here are just some examples: - "Révolution industrielle: Ouverture" (Track 1): you can clearly hear a modified version of the Geerdes "Machine Run" patch as rythmic loop FX in the introduction. Roland PND-50-01 "Griitttarr 2" patch is used as a lead sound. Orchestral strings are played using PA-Decoder "ORCHESTER PHILAMON" patch: - "Révolution industrielle: Part 1" (Track 2): Michael Hotop's SoundSet 8 patches "YAMATANO OROCHI" and "--KOKUBOSTRINGS--" have been used in this part. The first one during the introduction as a strange FX (background solo line have been certainly played with the Roland PN-D50-01 "Squeeze de Sax" patch): The second one as a rythmic strings section for the end of this song: - "Révolution industrielle: Part 2" (Track 3): Leister Volume 3 patch "Analog Chop" is used for a complex sequenced line: - "Révolution industrielle: Part 3" (Track 4): PA-Decoder Volume 1 patch "ATARI 1040 ST 5" is used as a special FX to close the song (0'09''): - "Computer Week-End " (Track 8): EMC Volume 1 patch "Ocean Scenario" is used as a voicey lead sound with plucked attack. Michael Hotop's SoundSet 8 patch "--KOKUBOSTRINGS--" is used as the rythmic strings section comping part: - "September " (Track 9): PA-Decoder Volume 3 patch "ANALOG 01" is used as a lead sound: And these are only a few examples...
I can almost feel the rain running down the back of my neck down my back, pants, socks and shoes whilst stood with thousands of others in the Docklands.... still got the T shirt somewhere.
I'm great fan of J.M.Jarre from my childhood. I know nearly every single note of all albums. I closed my eyes and... It was Jarre. Complete and perfect. It's very hard to tell a difference. The amount of job you've done it's beyond any comment. So much heart, passion and devotion. Thank you. And... little one is cute.
One of the main reasons is of course that Jarre extensively used the presets of the D50 on this whole album. So you can literally play a lot of parts identically to how Jarre played them on the album. Learning that that whole metallic sequence throughout Part 1 is essentially just a single note off of that particular D50 preset was one of my biggest disappointments about Jarre.
In terms of composition and sound, Industrial Revolution is one of the best that Jean-Michel Jarre has ever done. With the ingenious interplay of Roland D-50 and Elka Synthex, he created a monument for both synthesizers. From that point of view, a cover version of it is always a big challenge. Your version turned out really well. I would say it's 80% accurate. In any case, the D-50 parts are very well done. Too bad you didn't have original Elka Synthex sounds and Akai MPC-60 drum and percussion sounds. But hats off! Good job! You can be proud of yourself.
Fantastic. I also love that there is an uprise in interest for Jean-Michel Jarre's music lately. It warms my heart to see videos recreating his work out of love for the music. I've been a Jarre fan since the late 70's ☺
Jean Michel Jarre veniva considerato il pioniere di un "certo genere musicale", prima sconosciuto al grande pubblico, perché sapeva perfettamente coniugare l'elettronica con la strumentazione di base
Wow, I was not ready for this! This is one of my all time favourite pieces of music and to hear it covered so perfectly blew me away and I really didn't expect to be in tears this morning 😂 Absolutely amazing!
Just discovered your versions of the JMJ classics they are awesome and wonderful I remember watching the concert from London on channel 4 and recording it on video and I still have it and this was the first JMJ album I bought on cassette as well and yes I still have it as well as the cd copy
Man! 😲😎 This sounds as the original tracks... fantastic... I love JMJ musics since my childhood... i have this album also... and now see and hear this construction.. amazing... I have a Roland JV1080 synth modul... a think i must probe some synth voices... Great job Simon! Thank you!
You did a great job on this, I actually was at the Docklands concert & the album & the industrial revolution suite in particular is some of my favourite JMJ output (as a fan since 1979).. I am considering getting a D50 myself for doing this alone.
Thanks for it. As an old big fan of JMJ, it remembered my teenage years. " It took two weeks and my wife almost divorced me" -> don't worry. It is the same for all musicians.
One minor point of critisicm; In the beginning I heard (and saw) those triplets that actually were chords in the original. I missed the extra power in that. But having said that: You did a remarkable job on one of my favourite Jarre-tracks! Chapeau ♥ My number one remains the whole Rendez-Vous II thing :) I might just give that a try on TH-cam!
Totally agreed to your point, also some synth noises I missed (I was making them with my mouth while listening 🤣🤭), beside that, Simon is JMJ of this century.👏👌
Fan of J.M.J. Absolutely stunning job! Instruments and playing are almost exactly as the original. if someone told me that this is a live concert from Jarre, i would believe him. I suppose that you spent many many hours searching and fine tuning all this sounds. Keep up the good work!
Amazing! What an accomplished labour of love! I remember listening to Revolutions from an original cassette I bought when it came out on my Walkman. I still own that cassette and it still sounds good (the walkman has fallen to pieces over time). Your cover is spot on. Well done! 🎉 You are keeping an absolute classic alive. I hope your wife will read these comments and forgives you, seeing how much joy you have spread with your work. 😊😊😊
Loved this. You might be slightly interested that the start of Part II is all D-50 presets as well. Kokubostrings and Analog Chop. I only learned this when trying to play it myself. You played it damn well. Enjoyed it a lot so thank you!
