The end result is outstanding. As much as I think I know about model building, there is always something new to learn. This video has taught me many new tips and techniques. Much obliged.
Really good looking effects. I think the tyres look natural, as without air pressure behind them they'd come away from the rim anyway. Good to see you back...
I love how these instructions are given so nonchalantly for you! I can never get results like this no matter how hard I try. This thing is like museum quality weathering. I’m so impressed by this job I’m saving your video for future reference. Bravo my friend!
Well thanks, its easy to be nonchalant when doing the voice overs lol the hard bit is already done. I'm pretty sure there was plenty of swearing and holding my breath along the way, especially in all acrylics which can't be wiped off with a bit of thinner. I'm not a pro I'm just a guy who makes free videos so don't be daunted just have a go and you'll see it's easier than you think
Dave Lloyd it was a challenge but the wet on wet technique is now one of my favourite methods. I had hoped there would be acrylic fans who enjoyed this one so thanks for commenting
Beautiful work! On the subject of the tires: I don't think the small gaps between the rubber and rims hurt the effect. Quite the opposite actually. Big trucks like these don't actually have an inner tube in the tires, so the rubber is held on using the pressure of the tires. When tires like this deflate and that pressure is no longer there, they come loose from the rim. Add some age into the mix and you often see these gaps appear, especially around the top half of the rims.
Actually the large trucks I worked with did have inner tubes and gators (a thick rubber ring), the assembly was held on the hub with a split ring. On deflation the seal between the hub and the tyre would look just as you have depicted it in the model.
i dont mean to be off topic but does someone know of a method to log back into an instagram account? I was dumb forgot my password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
Wonderful work mate. Great effects using acrylics. I will definately try it! Thank you. On the tires, i think that your result is actually more accurate given the scenario. Really old and neglected tires on trucks tend not to be flush to the rim as the rubber gets dry and crack. This also because the airpressure is gone, which normally would keep them in place. Cheers and thanks for sharing! 👍
Awesome! Thanks so much for sharing your skills. Also it is good to see you back at these types of videos. I still reference your half track build from a few years ago.
One of your best Jon really beautifully put together and as for the tyres they would have come away from the rims just like that because they are commercial vehicle wheels, so for me they look very authentic.
Absolutely awesome thanks for your time and helpful tips, learned alot can wait to try . Funny about the tires maybe glue rims in first might have taken longer as not to warp the rims just a thought again brilliant build will watch a couple times more cheers.
Just read the comment below about the tires, and when you presented the built model at the end, the tires look exactly as a large tire would do. The bead of the tires would loosen off of the rim. Great model.
great work mate i actually like the tires separated from the rim it makes the beed look broken if its been siting there that long its more realistic if any thing i think the tires look to clean compared from the rest of the model thats just my opinion, outstanding work
My apologies if this has already been asked and answered but can you tell me more about your homemade wet palate? Looks to be a household sponge with wax paper on top? Always looking for those homemade gadgets that save me from spending money!
Hi, sure! No problem. It is indeed just a household sponge but it's the paper that makes it work properly. It's baking parchment, not wax paper. It has to be the right paper as this is what permits the water to pass through one way only, replenishing the water in the paint but not letting the paint into the reservoir. I bought a big roll of it on amazon.
@@ScaleModelMedic Ahh yes....my mistake! Parchment paper indeed! Don't know what I was thinking when I said wax paper as no water will seep through that. Thanks again!
Just watched this and have learned so much - thank you! A question, do you seal the paint with a varnish before applying tapwater and yellow or rust, etc? If so, do you use a matt or varnish coat to do so?
Hi, thanks for the kind words. Yes I guess I missed a step in the video...from memory I gave the model a matt varnish seal after chipping with hairspray. It prevents further chips appearing and the matt surface helps the spread of the thin paint layers as it soaks into the matt rather than pooling up on a gloss.
@@ScaleModelMedic Thanks, that helps me a lot. I am off to do some experimenting. I really enjoy your videos and the way you explain things. Also, that was a really prompt reply, impressed. Please keep up this great work!
Apologies for the audio on this one guys, it gradually gets quieter through the video. Not sure what went wrong. I hope it doesn't detract from the viewing too much
Really good job on the Gaz truck. Showed it to a friend who thought that it was a real vehicle. Thanks for the lesson.
Wow your attention to detail is amazing, way over my head. This is not a critsizm.
Thanks, it may seem over your head but this technique of painting into wet is so easy it just takes a bit of practise. Give it a shot!
You are just a great artist!!!...... thank you. 💙 from 🇬🇷
Awesome work , great style , cool rust colored blends . Done right .

Very nice weathering job. The detail is really nice.
This could not have come at a better time :) Just as I am stepping back into the world of armour. Great to see the master at work again mate - Ivan
Northern Modeller cheers Ivan
That came out looking really awesome! I can almost see this in a diorama! Old fence and some tall grass! Bravo on the build because it came out great.
Awesome job!
Very well done! In my opinion the gap between the wheel rim and tire looks appropriate and isn't distracting in the least.
Thank you for sharing.
Great to see you back making videos! Keep them coming

Glad you could take something away from my video, and thanks for taking time to comment!
Great video Jon nice to see you back nice subject well executed 👍
Lovely job! Nice to see an acrylic only weathering video as that is all i use too. Good techniques and thanks for sharing them

ScaleModelMedic Credit where it is due I think. I like the tap water layer before applying filters etc. great idea. Do you make your own wet palette?
Stellar job, and great video editing! How To execution nicely done.

I agree, the build looks amazing...perfect weathering.

Great stuff! I will need to try this water technique, you make it look so easy, I hope it will help ;D
круто! Skill capped!
so cool!!!
I try to make it like this, but it's not easy..
I am building a Flak 40 Zwilling from Takon, it would be good to see how you would paint such cannon.

If you add a little tiny drop of washing up liquid to the water it reduces surface tension and helps the acrylics stop pooling
Hola, un saludo y un gran trabajo. Quiero preguntar, que escala es este camion?
nice to see a new video from your channel, absolut gorgeous.
But what about the Meng King Tiger? Will there be another Video?
Cheers Mate!
nodnodnod yes there will. This was filmed absolutely ages ago way before i started the tiger but I haven't had the pc set up so just catching up.

Great video and the sound was ok.
It's quite common for flat tires to separate from the wheel hubs. So I don't think the gaps on your wheels are unrealistic at all.
Hi! Thanks for sharing. Yellow clear is ok for every rusty part/base color? I'm painting a cargo van and base color is blu.
home work no you would find the blue went a different colour on the fade maybe more of a white
Wow,subded.
