    In todays video we check out a newer analog series called Angel Hare. In this series we follow a guy named Jonah who finds tapes of his favorite cartoon from when he was younger. But when he watches his personal recordings of these tapes he finds out that the cartoon may have been SPEAKING to him? He remembers none of this and the deeper he dives into this mystery, the weirder things become.

    I want to apologize for the previously misleading thumbnail I had on this video. I have changed it to the thumbnail you see now.
    I usually make my thumbnails including text that briefly describes what happens in the series or what I theorize happened. I used "The CARTOON That KILLS PEOPLE" because of the implication she helped Jonah do something to the abusive adult in his life. BUT there is actually NO evidence of any killing being done. I admit I knew it was misleading. But I didn't think it was a problem because people seemed to enjoy that they were walking into a horror video and ended instead with a more joyful story.
    Like I said I fully realize now, this was wrong and I will make sure it doesn't happen again with future videos I create. If you know me and my content, my intention is to never hurt the series I cover. And thats something I def dont want to do to Angel Hare.

      And it's kind of even somewhat worse now with some parents using TH-cam kids shows that are somewhat similar to Angel Gabby to "distract" their kids. (Which may be the kids Gabby is currently looking after)
      Basically use them as free nannies in a way.
      Although this person had an abusive father, we also don't hear much about his mother. He even mentioned how he was apparently alone a lot as a kid.

    • @camobranson09
      @camobranson09 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +126

      I had an abusive father growing up. Every day I would have juuuuuuust enough time to watch an episode of DBZ while cleaning dishes cause if I didn't than I was going to get hit with said dishes.
      I remember DBZ teaching me that being kind isn't a weakness, forgiving your enemies can forge the best friendships, and that hard work, training, dedication, and perseverance can help you weather any storm or even win most battles. They helped me form a strong foundation to build myself on. I also grew up in a loosely Baptist household so I learned a lot of things from the Bible that helped me really discern right from wrong.
      Mom worked 2nd or 3rd shift all her life while my step-dad was on first. He'd head out for work at 7am, get home at 5pm. Mom would leave at 3pm and get home at 1am. So having the abusive parent as the one that was predominantly home wasn't... great.
      Later on I also ended up watching shows like Outlaw Star and Cowboy Bebop and things like that. I always seemed to key into the heart of the story and the cores of its characters. Not having a Dad I wanted to grow up to be like I looked to these males in animated shows. Seen the aspects that made them great, seen their flaws, and sought to forge myself into some amalgamation of them and my faith.
      I like to think I turned out okay. Still hope to be a real Dad to my own kids someday.
      (Side note: My step-dad has had his own little redemption arch over the years after my mom passed when I was 10 and the state made me go live with her parents. Something I didn't want to do because I wanted to stay and protect my sister (his daughter) from him.
      We're fine now and I even call him Dad but I know not everyone gets that sort of happy ending. He recognizes the wicked man he used to be, realizes his excuses were just that, and works every day to be a better person than he was and is proud of who I've become in spite of it all.)

      No, it was Jonah who killed his father because he was an abuser. Gabby explains Jonah how to come up with alibi, how to hide, how to disassemble weapon. While it sounds like she had bad jntentiions, I assume she only wanted Jonah to be saved from his father, which could not be achieved by other means.Although I am not sure he actually did that, because the series do not reveal all the cards.

    • @ebrules
      @ebrules 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +86

      @@rustywilliams2497 I think it's the other way around, actually, because if you remember, she says "you need to only have truth to tell", meaning she wants him out of the house when the father dies [if that's what happened] so that he doesn't have to lie about not knowing what happened or how the dad died or anything, it's not just about having an alibi but not needing to lie to form that alibi, so it seems far more likely that Gabby did the actual deed, especially since it's implied she might have caused the flood that destroyed the records too, so it's not out of her, like, ability to do so, clearly.

      @@kamwahh I'd say there was a little bit of a horror element here. The twist & shock to that horror is that it ISN'T the supernatural entity talking through Gabby that we automatically assume it is, and are suspicious of. But rather the real life horror going on in the background of Jonah's life at home.
      And that underlining tension that was going on at the time. Though I still wonder what happened to the step, dad, or boyfriend after Jonah left the house. Or did Gabby do something to him sometime after Jonah left the house 🤔. It really is a shock to me the entity in this case was truly benevolent.

    When we are kids we usually look to our parents for help with life, but sometimes parents are busy so we also look to heroes in our favorite cartoons. Optimus Prime from the 90s shows was always a character kids looked up to for guidance, and life lessons so much so that he became a father figure for lots of kids. The message that this series is trying to tell is that cartoon heroes are just as important to children’s lives as parents, because they are always there to help the kids grow by teaching the lessons, and showing them that even in their darkest hour there is always hope. The angel teaches kids lessons, and the detective shows kids that evil never wins when there is good willing to stand against it. A great lesson for a great series.

    You know, sometimes it's just nice to have a wholesome analogue horror series out there. Then again, I'm not sure I'd count this as analogue horror so much. There were oddities in the beginning, but when you find out that there's no villain, no demons or evil forces, just beings who want to protect children and help them grow, while the premise is still kind of on the uncanny side, it's actually a wholesome experience. I think I'm going to go watch the series for myself!

    The idea of a "cursed", obscure, Christian Cartoon that becomes possessed by a guardian angel and helps a child through his abusive childhood is right up my alley and is incredibly original, and is different from the average, cheap, lazy shock content that a lot of analog horrors have become nowadays.

    And based on the locations, it must be something dangerous that others do not want to see out in the open or hidden in an out of place area (ex Jonah's room)

    the way jonah interacts with gabby is really interesting. on the stream where he was talking to her for a really long time, he was drawing pictures of her, even drawing himself and gabby holding hands. this series doesn’t feel like a disturbing analog horror, but a really comforting one. I’ve never seen people before play around with the idea of comfort characters and characters on tv shows being a “guardian angel” of sorts for the troubled kids who watch their shows. it’s a really nice idea. I defenitly was thinking of the same thing. it seemed like a tv show to show kids how to cope. I wish i had this when i was a kid, it seems very helpful. I think a lot of traumatized kids reach out to things they see as comfort. His relationship with the bunny, at first made me creeped out. Then i kinda realized that i had that same relationship with Fancy nancy and Tiana (still kinda do). It just makes me feel sad for him, but also its sorta good. because that is what the show was intending to do. and it probably helped a bunch of people. 🤗 He does have to move away from her, sadly. It happens a lot, its like an escape from reality from much. It kinda reminds me of when my book was taken away, i cried till i couldn't breath (i was a kid, so my actions were more severe but you get it.) This is more angel themed stuff, but the relationship seems more like he suffered some type of abuse, and the tv show was a way out, and now he cant stop.

    50:00 no, Gabby didn't disappear leaving everything unexplained. There was clearly a Time after she came back to Jonah that she and Jonah did some extensive talking while he live streamed her show. We just didn't see all that interaction. All we saw was that Jonah was constantly live streaming and being obsessed with gabby. It wasn't until Easter that she disappeared again.
    A lady leaving an obsessed man sounds like a wise woman.

    Im only 8 minutes in but as someone who grew up in an abusive household, the things angel Gabriel is saying are definitely helping Jonah with a similar situation. The reason he doesn't remember much of his childhood is probably also because it's traumatic and his brain blocked it off to protect him.
    "The sun is warm sometimes, Jonah, but you shouldn't forget the moments when it burns you." Most abusive households will have moments of comfort. Your parents will sometimes be nice. Will pretend to care. Will hold you in their arms. But it's all a lie, and soon they will start being shit to you again.

    • @kathyburton4372
      @kathyburton4372 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +111

      Oh my! This is a brilliant take. Like maybe Jonah was getting attacked by said sibling. It would honestly make more sense. The line of “Not in your toy chest, that could be incriminating.” Could this violent sibling go “missing” so Jonah needed an alibi? Or maybe it was thought Jonah was the violent one, when it was actually the sibling - maybe (s)he was very good at hiding their real persona? Like a Ted Bundy type in the making? Maybe I’m grasping at straws here.

    • @NO-tw1lf
      @NO-tw1lf 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +38

      That would be an interesting twist! Though I think the mother’s worries about the tv turning her child violent was more because deep down she always knew that Jonah was responsible for what happened even though he was a child and even though they couldn’t prove it, and because he’s always watching tv she worried that he had gotten the idea from the tv. (Which he did in a sense)

    • @NO-tw1lf
      @NO-tw1lf 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +31

    • @Mathee
      @Mathee 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      That is an interesting theory, but I'm personally sticking with the theory that it was a father figure (bio dad or step dad). My reasoning being that I think the tapes are from after the event, because a lot of the tapes also talk about how tv can influence children, and we know the Angel Hare tapes were recorded.
      I think the mom saw one of the recordings where Angel Hare seemed to talk directly to Jonah, and something incriminating was said, and that led the mom to worry that Jonah was the murderer. So she got all those children behaviorial tapes to try and figure out what was going on with him

    • @arthurjeremypearson
      @arthurjeremypearson 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Every musical choice coupled with his terrified texts that he writes while investigating implies this should be horrific, but it seems to end on a wholesome note. Wholesome, but fantastic. Wholesome, fantastic, and Angel Gabby keeps playing up Jonah as a very special child of god. Inflating his confidence and sense of self-worth, just like alcohol can give you way too much confidence.
      Jonah begins this entire series as an unreliable narrator, saying that he doesn't remember any of this exactly. He's struggling to be truthful with himself in the first place. He's uncovering something that is frightening him.
      The dangerous individual in this scenario is a child according to the videos. Jonah is the child. No one else has been introduced, the only other character you can infer is a father since it takes two to tango in the first place and we are only introduced to his mother.
      Violent child, missing father. Those are the facts.
      No matter what fantasy we're looking at, it might all be made up and in his head.

    Honestly I think part of the reason that Angel Hare works as a series, aside from the series itself just being phenomenal, is exactly BECAUSE we're all so used to the typical song and dance of analogue horror. We've all seen at least one story similar to the premise of Angel Hare that went exactly like we're used to it going. It's a genuine happy ending where there typically isn't one, with no subversion of ideas aside from the concept of horror itself. It's actually a really uplifting story, if you ignore the part where Johna was likely forced to kill his abusive father.

      @rext.b.4436 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +331

      I think that was the point of the series so far. The first season ended with Jonah reuniting with Gabby and getting really attached, and all of Season 2 was for Jonah to realize that he’s been relying on her too much. Which is why by Season 2’s end, he wanted to forget everything so he doesn’t have to rely on her anymore. BUT, because this series is smart like that, Gabby refuses and instead, everyone teams up so that they can provide that sense of guardianship for kids on the internet that Jonah had. The lesson isn’t “Stop relying on the people you love”, but it’s “No one is perfect and everyone needs help now and then, so rely on others as they rely on you.”

    It’s nice to find an analogue series with a wholesome message, and a sort of good ending. Another “Easter egg” and nice touch is zagzagel is an angel that taught Moses from the Old Testament and that reflects in his more stern no nonsense attitude, while Gabriel was the messenger to Mary and thus is more kinder. The protagonist becoming the show runner for the reboot to help a new generation of kids was just beautiful

    Gabby is the first "inside the television" character I know that is actually a good person. I think an interesting way to continue the series (and ramp up the horror elements) are through introducing comickpro's skitzo the 1920's killer bear. According to comickpro, skitzo was an old 1920's haunted cartoon series starting the infamous skitzo. At first, the cartoons were normal but by the end, they became demented, twisted and gory. Whoever watched these cartoons would go mad and start harming themselves and others. As a result all copies of his classic cartoons were collected and burned, erasing his history forever and sending Skitzo back to Hell where he now wanders. Skitzo delights in the taboos and perverse elements of humanity and his sadistic and masochistic antics have made him notorious in Hell where he is known as "The Eye of the Pervert". He just needs a little tinkering to make him work. Heck, he could be the reason Jonah's father was so cruel.

Wven planning a last resort plan and planning the alibi for said plan. Hide the gun so his mom and him are safe, if the father tried to hurt him or kill him hed have gabby kill the father, then hed go it his friends house as an alibi. Then she destroyed all the evidence if he actually shot his father ehich seems to be the case. She also has the ability to block out memories to help protect the innocent.

These "Angels" use animated media to help people, and that's exactly what lots of shows do today, for me these were probably shows like gravity falls and such, but for many (especially in the Disney genre) it was probably movies like The Hunchback of NotreDame, or even newer movies like Encanto or Luca. There are probably better examples, but I feel this is what this analogue series was trying to get across.

    Dunno why, but I've always thought that the mom was complicit in Jonah's abuse in a way. Enabler at best, negligent at worse. Feel free to debate me on this
    When she said he got his scars from horseplay, she didn't say it was an accident. Almost as if she's trying to excuse her husband's behaviour by pinning the blame on Jonah. Though it could be argued that she's trying to suppress his memories.
    While Jonah's father left a gun unattended with a kid for god knows how long, his mother is also complicit as she also wasn't there to supervise him, effectively leaving her son at home alone with a violent abuser. Heck, she put more effort in trying to figure out Gabby than saving herself and her son from an abusive spouse.
    Despite Gabby's alibi, she knows that her son was somehow involved in her husband's disappearance, hence the tapes on child aggression. It's almost like she didn't want Jonah to overcome her abuser, something that she couldn't do herself. She was afraid that Jonah might do the same to her next for her inaction towards her husband's actions, that's why she was so obsessed over violence in children.

      She spent an entire episode trying to figure out why, oh why, Jonah could possibly act aggressively towards his father.
      "Every child has scars."
      Really? F**king, really?
      If there's ever a Season 3, I hope it's about Jonah's mom finding out about her son's new Angel Hare stream, her angerly confronting him, and Jonah (rightly) b**ching her out about how she failed to protect him as a parent.
      Again, I have no kind things to say about Jonah's mom. She failed him. And she wants to be angry at the only person who protected him.
