One thing to keep in mind for new shooters: no one cares how slow you go, as long as you are safe. Be slow and careful during make ready. Be slower and careful during unload and show clear. Don't get ahead of the range officer during unload and show clear -- there is no prize for fastest unload and show clear. Take your time. Be careful. Have fun.
If you do get disqualified, be a good sport and accept it gracefully. It happens, even to very good, safe shooters.

Many thanks David!!! The timing of this video could not have been any better! I have never shot US PSA but I’ve been kicking around the idea with my son and some buds.
At 56 with a wrecked spine, two prosthetic knees and the COVID 30.
I’m running that DDE (Diminished Dad Energy) Just may be my last chance at competitive shooting that doesn’t require a bench rest and a chair!
I’ll be Rockin the Geezer Division in no time!!
    As always, great video!!

Being condemned to live out my days in a rabidly anti-2a state, I’m somewhat on my own - I have to go that extra mile to get good information on anything firearms related. Your videos are an invaluable resource. My Confidence in your content is very high and is really appreciated!!

Great video. My wife and I started competitive shooting this summer. It's intimidating to get into but I believe universally most folks will find a very welcoming, enthusiastic and knowledible regiment of shooters. Watching this video will help new shooters with confidence of exactly what to expect prior to day one. And if there is any concern beyond this video, I would encourage them to go to a match as a spectator. They will see that not everybody is an amazing marksman. But everybody IS having a great time. Thank you again David. Great job.

Video was great! Only part I took issue with is reccomending the minimal ear pro (in ear squishies). Yes they are cheap and can mitigate a lot of the force, but having active ear pro that seals to your head is much better for the longevity of your hearing. Spend the dosh on the ear pro, your grandkids will thank you for it.

    • @TheHumbleMarksman
      @TheHumbleMarksman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Of the divisions I listed - I'd try them for flavor. Then pick one and begin to learn more about the game.
I wouldn't suggest leading off with Open unless you have tons of disposable income and can afford someone to make you 38 SC ammo. It's by far the most punishing of a weak reloading game - if you're making your own ammo you NEED solid process to make the things be reliable.
Carry Optics is a great way to learn a lot about the game.
Also - I just got my M card in Open now - so pretty pumped to be making progress there - but a long way from being a threat in M Class.

And damn the long make ready guy! The guy that takes 5 minutes to make ready just to shoot a bunch of Charlie’s and no shoots

Thank you so much for doing this video. This is my first year with shooting at any match. I shoot USPSA mostly with Reloading from the Hot Pot. This is very helpful. My problem is I’m always smashing the trigger and since I’m right handed shooting left hand is very difficult. Do you have any suggestions besides practice. Or a video to help me and other with the same problems❓

You made this video at the right time. I've done a handful of steel challenge and local falling steel matches, but been wanting to give USPSA a shot. Question: I have two guns that I could use, a Shadow 2 for CO, or my modded Staccato P for open. The P would be open minor which would put me at a disadvantage with scoring, but I'm much more comfortable with it. Would I be making a mistake by starting off with the P? I'm a B class shooter for steel challenge with the P. I just got the Shadow a few weeks ago so I haven't ran it in anything.

I know you didn't ask me but since there isn't a response, I'll weigh in. I'd start off with the gun you are most comfortable with. In a first match, you ain't winning open or carry optics so the disadvantage of minor scoring in open division won't make a shred of difference. If you try it out with your open minor gun and decide you like the game and want to get serious about competing, it would be best to start getting reps on your CO gun since you'll want as much competitive equity as possible if you're interested at all in where you place in the standings.

FINALLY, someone made a new competition shooter video that new people can actually understand. Thank you. Any interest in doing a short video just explaining what practical competition shooting is that's targeted towards people that know nothing about firearms? Other videos have tried, but they all end up being pure action with death metal playing and explain the game to people that already know the game, instead of explaining things to people that know nothing.

One of the best competition options for novice shooters is Steel Challenge. You can start them with .22 pistols or rifles, you don't have to start from a holster, little movement, and you can use a red dot.
