I'm in a warm climate so I just sowed another round of bush beans, fennel, and sunflowers. I also started beets, onions, green onions, and chives. This is the first year I'm trying a second round of seeds in the summer so I'm excited to see what happens!
I don't visit often but when I do it feels very different to the USA I grew up in. Everything is different, from the places I knew, the safety I felt, to the culture and attitudes of people.
Great seed selection Tanya. In the UK there's 2 climate's because the east of the country general is dryer than the west side of the country. This year it has been dryer & hotter than usual in the north east of Scotland. Another fantastic video Tanya.
It's been pretty dry up until now for us too...so glad the rain is back! And you know there's probably more than those two in Britain. The far south vs the north, and the mountains vs the lowlands. It's easy to generalise here with seed sowing/gardening, but quite a bit of local variation for many people.
Wong bok is great for producing seed, Tanya! I let a couple go to seed, earlier this spring and now I have more than enough to cover me through the entirety of next winter! Also not had to sow anymore, since as plenty of seed dropped before I harvested it, so I’ve now got small volunteers everywhere! More than my family will eat, but we share with neighbours and I work at our local zoo, so no shortage of people lining up for my extra veg!
Honestly, I don’t normally like peas, unless they are whole snow peas in a stir fry. Never been able to find seed for growing them. But I tried my hand at growing marrow-fat peas, this spring and I like them fresh, when they are out of MY garden! 😉
I start a second round of summer squash, cucumbers and paste tomatoes in zone 9b Coastal California with an estimated first frost date in December and and estimated last frost date in March.🌱💚
I wish I could do the same! The zone system can be so misleading...though we're technically 9a, it begins cooling down here from August and there's not enough time to get another warm season crop in. Temperatures rarely go above 77f here and rarely dip below freezing.
You are right saying that August can be the time that our weather becomes wetter and cooler. I have seen that the seasons in the UK have changed over the last few years. Autumn has elongated by starting in August. The days of hot August weather of my childhood are possibly past. I've just sown French beans this weekend for a late crop.
It's been pretty wet and windy here too the past few days...ah, summer 😂 I can recommend @niallgarden 's channel for flowers to sow in July. He's based in Ireland too :)
Second round of cocozelle, hello squash and zucchini. More parsley, basil and cilantro. Lettuce, bunching onions and radishes. Carrots and golden beets. Thinking about kohlrabi and rutabaga.
I used to dread broad beans as a child because they just tasted nasty and looked like warts, but as an adult I love them. Packed with protein! Also, see if you can find broad bean ‘crisps’ - they are addictively tasty.
Always a pleasure to watch you videos. Your content is right in line with my gardening since I am in Oregon (8b). Now on to potting up my next round of lettuce and bok choy starts.
I’m having to resow everything because it all started great then, my husband got Covid and then I got it a day later. 2 shots and a booster helped only with the severity. Neither of us had the energy to take care of baby plants. New beginnings.
@@Lovelygreens Hello! Yes, Camano Island, part of the San Juan archipelago. Hello Tanya! Wanted to tell you that I have enjoyed your book immensely! When should I start over wintering onions and purple sprouting broccoli in zone 6B? I want to give those a try. Thank you!
Hello and thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed A Woman's Garden 🙂💚 Overwintering purple sprouting broccoli and onions can be killed if your winter temperature dips below 20⁰F. Your climate may be too cold for them? Instead, you might want to try summer purple sprouting and starting onions from seed in the winter to plant out in early spring. Hope this helps!
Hello, Tanya Lovely Greens. Thank you for your July planting veggie suggestions. I planted some Pea seeds in pots and a few in a small shaded area (only area i have ) Do you think they have any chance ? I just harvested half a dozen pea plants i planted earlier. They were very nice . Byee!!!!😄
If you do, sow bolt-hardy varieties and keep them out of hot sun. Spinach prefers cooler/moist conditions but Wales can be good for that throughout the summer. My advice is to scatter some seeds and look after them. If they don't perform, try again in mid-late August :)

Moving out of the states 20 years ago sounds like the best decision one could make. Wish I did the same thing.

Looking forward to returning home from my work vacation to plant more seeds. Great video!

Volunteers are a gardener's best friends! And it sounds like everyone who benefits from your harvests thinks of you as a best friend 😁💚

I'm doing a second round of potatos, as for mustard definatly planting as much as I can with the global shortage.
Hi Tanya, by the end of July you can also start to sow lamb's lettuce. Great in salads of all sorts. Cuddles to Maggie ! 😸
Zone 7 - I have 90 days. I'm going to try peas, beans, cantaloupe, cucumber, cauliflower, broccoli, chard, radishes & carrots.
Those specs tho.... 👏 love this. ❤️
Yes I can find kohlrabi in my local grocery store. I live in southern California.

Superb cover crop

We're very similar in gardening zones -- the PNW and Britain :)
Great video, Tanya! Thank you for your suggestions! I’m a little behind in getting my empty spaces filled but it’s on the list! 😊
Thanks for this video!Very informative 🌸
Love your videos, any chance of some pics of your seed journal please? I'm in Liverpool and we share a similar climate, this would be a massive help!
Enjoyed the video.
Wonderful informative video! Thanks 👍

Brilliant thanks Tanya

Are you in the San Juans then? I know the area reasonably well :)

I thoroughly enjoy your vlogs. Where and how do you store the harvest and how much do you save on your weekly shopping.
I've never calculated, but it would be a good exercise!
Hi, I've sowed lots but I'm running out of space!! I live where Goldilocks lives.🤣🤣👍
My first year with endive as well! Hope something happens. Lol!
It's always a surprise, isn't it? 😂
Kohlrabi is not as known as it should be but it is getting better known. Something else that is not as popular as it should be is Malabar spinach..
Can I Start Spinach Now,?

I've not grown it since it loves hot temperatures. It's a good bet for those who have summers exceeding 80⁰F (27⁰c) tho!
