  • Becoming a Mountain Leader is a Journey i have been on for over a year. This is primarily for me so I can lead Scouts in the hills, but for many , it is for commercial or just as a personal measure, or a combination.
In this video I summarise my experience and some learning for the week.
I did my training and assessment with Chris Ensoll. www.chrisensoll.com
I am raising funds to buy an emergency beacon to help keep myself and the youngsters including Scouts I take out safe. Thanks! www.buymeacoffee.com/fellmandave

I'm just about to start working towards my ML this year. Wonderful video - and to hear Chris Ensoll named, amazing! Got to spend a couple of weeks with him this time last year on an exped to Ojos del Salado, Chile. Fabulous guy!

Congratulations David! It's thanks to people like you that others benefit from being lead in the outdoors. I particularly liked the women leaders request for a 2 minutes silence. Very rarely do groups of people properly stop look and listen. As a result they miss out on the real intimacy of the outdoors.
    Best wishes,
    David

yes David, it's sad sometimes that we (me included0 have to be instructed to stop look and feel, but when we do.....heaven.

That genuinely fascinated me Dave, just what goes into the qualification. Glad to see flora and fauna ID has a role and some of the talk topics on conservation and rewilding, etc sound right up my street. Congratulations on passing too and good to see Tentfish keeping an ever watchful eye on proceedings. Best wishes, Chris

This film takes me back to my ML assessment in 1991, I did it at Plas y Brenin Mountain Centre. Bloody hard five days that! Still, very satisfying to get that pass and stamp in my log book. Later I did the winter award at Glenmore Lodge, an even harder award to get. Followed that with the 9 day MIA training course back at the Brenin, hardest 9 days of my life. However, I never went on to take the full assessment (simply getting too old). Well done Dave on getting that award, with all the work you do with youth groups you deserve it👍 Cheers Mike.

Hi dave just starting on my journey and have my ms skills under my belt I'd happily take any advice on moving forward , loving the videos and the time you take to describe a subject, or topic.
I really feel at home in the mountains and would love to share that experience with people

Hi Chris, thanks for commenting. If you have all the personal 'mountain' skills dialled in, the next thing would be to practice the 'leader' part. Get friends and family to do role play or volunteer to help with real groups such as scouts. Talk about their wants and aspirations, check their kit, teach them some navigation. Good luck with your journey, I am missing mine!
