My wife and I are going to Madrid this summer and after going through a sea of travel videos that aren't helpful, we're happy to have found your charming and informative channel
About San Ginés. Among some of us middle-aged Madrid people it was usual some twenty years ago to start the year rightly and go for a _chocolate con churros_ to San Ginés after a party night on new year's eve. Then went to bed and thus the new year was officially (and properly) inaugurated
You actually "eat" the rest of the chocolate with your spoon, you do not drink it. A glass of cold water afterwards is recommended. I would say liquid chocolate, the way it started being consumed in Spain when it was first brought to Europe from America, is equally as popular as solid chocolate.
About to head to Madrid, and found your video very helpful and enjoyable to watch! Enjoyed the commentary and less 'sizzle' and more down to earth approach to sharing information.
In fact the proper way to serve a _chocolate a la taza_ (no matter if accompained with either _tejeringos, melindros, fartons_ or just plain bread) is serving also a glass of cold water. Or it was in the good old days, at least.
Thanks so much for checking out the video! We can’t recommend Madrid enough, for both the food and the architecture. Amazing place! Thanks for the well wishes, we really appreciate it!
I could't agree less. Mercado de S. Miguel is expensive, I admit it, but the quality of their food is top notch and the scenary, stunning. Those things are not cheap so, when visiting Madrid, it's a must even if it is not sustainable on a regular basis.
Yum! As a foodie I never pass up the chance to watch these top 10 lists for best foods to try. Great footage and explanations, plus the timestamps makes it so easy to navigate through your video. Great share!
The croqueta does not contain cheese, it´s bechamel. Regarding the ibérico ham, it´s produced in 2 places: Huelva (south of Spain), and Guijuelo (Salamanca). For your next visit, a must food typical from Madrid: boquerones en vinagre, callos, cocido and calamares a la romana ;) Tks for sharing your experience ;)
Thanks for watching! We learned about the bechamel too late for the video 😆 we added all of your suggestions to our list for Madrid for next time! We can’t wait to come back, so much to see and to eat!!
As a local I would say to avoid 100 Montaditos. Fake non-traditional at all chain, you even have to work as a waiter like in a burguer-king. You get much better tapas and service in most bars ( ask some local or your host or hotel ). Also is not local economy so won't help much to the people who lives around. Mercado de San Miguel is cute and fancy and posh but it is way overpriced for tourists ( like La Boquería in Barcelona ) you could go to any other hood market and go straight to the bar for local food, like in Lavapiés.
Oh yes, it’s definitely not the nicest or most traditional place 😅 but those prices are hard to beat for budget travelers! The food scene in Madrid is spectacular though, so many amazing options!
i dont mind 100 montaditos. it is what it is, a inexpensive way to get quite a lot of food (maybe not the best quality) reasonably cheap. a bit like el tigre (havent been there yet but im going to try finding it when i go to madrid in november). i was surprized how expensive and how busy mercado de san miguel was, like a cattle market and stupid prices for even the most basic of foods.
Great video. Just to correct you though for locals the main meal of the day is actually at lunchtime and not in the evening. Eating late is more of a tourist thing.
This was such a great video! It brought back memories from my first backpacking trip in Europe. I landed in Madrid on that first trip. One thing I ate a lot while in Madrid were the inexpensive, but delicious bocadillos de lomo! Did you try that? If you didn't, they're super delicious!
Thank you for watching! So happy to hear it was nostalgic for you 😁 we did try the bocadillos on our last day, you are right! They are delicious! Madrid is such a great food city, we loved it! 🇪🇸👍
Iberic pigs are raised in many places, the ham may come from different places. Iberic pic is a race itself, with brown skin and black ongles. Igs a different type of meat, that makes the difference
You will be mostly fine with English! We did brush up on a little Spanish just in case, and we occasionally used some common phrases. But it’s a very international city and lots of people speak fluent English. Have an amazing time in March, we love that city!! 👍
Those who do not have a gastronomic culture in the country where they usually live should not make a video of the top gastronomic dishes in a country like Spain. Spain has an immense gastronomic culture. It depends on the geographical area and we all know what exists in each area. Together with France, we are the country with the most gastronomic diversification that exists. You would have to be here a whole month to know him.
The city keeps going as usual, nobody has a siesta in Madrid, people just stay inside until the evening during summer time because of the high temperatures.
Mr. American Tourist: FYI, Spaniards do have empanadas! They may not look like your American version of empanadas, but they ARE empanadas -- FROM SPAIN!

Really? We had no idea you finish with the spoon, we have to try that now! The liquid chocolate is so delicious!
I went to Botin about a year ago. The suckling pig was delightful!
Wow, that must’ve been amazing! Can’t wait to try it someday 😅
Food looks so yummy in Madrid. Thanks for sharing your experience in Spain.
Absolutely! It really is a fantastic cuisine, we had so much fun exploring Madrid’s food scene! Thanks for watching 😁
I want to experience Madrid.
It’s one of our favorite cities in Europe! The food is really delicious 😋

We are so glad you found them too! Thanks for watching, so glad you enjoyed it! 👍

We’re so happy to hear the video was helpful to fellow travelers, that is our goal! Enjoy your time in Madrid, we absolutely loved it there!
Yes, you drink it or use the spoon. A glass of cold water afterwards is nice and somewhat typical.
Wow! Good to know, we felt bad leaving it behind!
In fact the proper way to serve a _chocolate a la taza_ (no matter if accompained with either _tejeringos, melindros, fartons_ or just plain bread) is serving also a glass of cold water. Or it was in the good old days, at least.
Hiya. Great vid, excellent info, makes me want to head for the airport this evening! Stay safe. All the best to you.
Thanks so much for checking out the video! We can’t recommend Madrid enough, for both the food and the architecture. Amazing place! Thanks for the well wishes, we really appreciate it!

We’re so happy the video is helpful! Have a wonderful time in Madrid, it is so much fun to explore!
@@MaxandSidney yeah we cant wait we are going to make some videos aswell ..looks an amazing city with superb food 😊👍
In Spain you should try more traditional tapas like Pork ears, callos, morcilla , pan con tomate, gambas al ajillo, mollejas, alcachofas and Jamón. 😊
Happy Birthday Sidney. Those churros 😋 I say drink the chocolate 😉
Thank you! It was tempting 😜
Great effort
Thanks for watching!! 😁

It is a really fantastic market!
Happy Birthday Sidney! Mouth is absolutely watering 😮💨 Jamon is the bomb
Thanks, Ian! We’re missing jamon already 🤤
Jamon Iberico ... DELICIOUS!!
Absolutely!! Incredible flavor! 😋
We ate at Botin and at nearby restaurants. The suckling pig is as good or better at the less famous places and much cheaper.
Wow, that’s good to know!!

Como el de Huelva ninguno, pero tampoco hay que olvidarse de los jamones extremeños

This video made me hungry 😅
What is the name of the last tapas bar you were in with Antonio?
That's the goal! So much delicious food in Madrid 😋 The last place is called La Lina, it is right next to the theater in the La Latina neighborhood!
@@MaxandSidney awesome. I am going to check it out next week when I arrive in Madrid. Thank you!
❤
I drank it and I finished it
The ham croquetas contain no cheese at all. The creamy interior is a béchamel sauce, basically milk, onion, butter, flour and nutmeg.
Ahh, okay! That makes sense. They’re so good!! 😊
They have no potatoe inside. Prtuguese ones have it.
As a Spaniard... The remaining chocolate? Easy... Drink
Wow! Never would have thought that, we will have to try it out next time!!
Going this March and was wondering how communication was without speaking Spanish
You will be mostly fine with English! We did brush up on a little Spanish just in case, and we occasionally used some common phrases. But it’s a very international city and lots of people speak fluent English. Have an amazing time in March, we love that city!! 👍
Tinto de Verano is red wine and Cassera ..which is like 7 up but with much less sugar ... it is not lemonade ..
That explains where the bubbles come from! Thanks 😊

croquettes never have potatoes in them :)
We didn’t know about bechemel until after 😂😂😂
The croquettes do not incorporate potatoes, it is bechamel
We learned about this after, oops 😆 that explains why it is so creamy and delicate! 😋
The city keeps going as usual, nobody has a siesta in Madrid, people just stay inside until the evening during summer time because of the high temperatures.
That's interesting, we definitely tried to stay inside during the hottest parts of the day. That heat takes some getting used to!
🇪🇸❌🇪🇸👑🥇👍
Thanks for watching! Hope you enjoyed it! 🇪🇸👍
It’s ok to visit El Mercado de San Miguel but do not eat there biggest tourist trap along with la Plaza Mayor.
It was a really cool place to visit! Definitely some touristy prices though!
Duh! Of course we drink the chocolate.
Wow!! Definitely have to try that out next time 😆
Jamón = Ha-Mon, not ha-moan ;)
You drink the leftover chocolate
Next time we definitely have to 😫
Mr. American Tourist: FYI, Spaniards do have empanadas! They may not look like your American version of empanadas, but they ARE empanadas -- FROM SPAIN!
Croquetas don't have cheese. Its dough.
We finally learned it was bechemel months after we recorded this 🤣🤣
The croquettes do not contain potato
The croquettes do not contain potato! It’s actually béchamel! So delicious 😁 thanks for watching and for the tip! ☺️
I am from madrid. Your gastronomic selection is not the correct one, only the tourist one.
What is the correct selection? In your opinion of course.
❤❤❤❤
