Hey, you should check out North Captiva! No cars, sandy roads golf carts only! Plenty of homes for sale or rent. Everything you need, restaurants, high speed internet, regular ferry service, etc. Way, way fewer people! Half of North Captiva is state of Florida preserve…

I agree, North Captiva is awesome! I will add it to the list of future videos! It will have some very unique pros and cons.

Thank you for the video! My wife and I are leaning toward moving to Captiva or Sanibel in the future. We have the income and savings to make the move, its just a matter of when. I have been visiting the Islands since I was kid back in the early 80's. It may soon be time to make them my permanent home. Since Ian, my wife is not so sure. She is not convinced the Islands will rebound to what they were before the storm. I know that they will rebound. Storms like Ian come every 100 years, and places like The Bubble Room, and Island Cow will build back. Baily's will as well. The Islands will be far stronger, and will survive the next big storm. If The Bubble Room reopens, it will make my job of convincing her a whole lot easier! We are however, concerned with insurance. I have contacted a few agancies and have not heard back from a single one. Yes, the interwebs say that companies still write policies, but I have not gotten a definitive answer. A one bedroom condo is our perfect retirement home. The cost to purchase a condo is not prohibitive. Its the insurance costs that scare the heck out of us. She is also concerned about costs of recertification and assessments. I assured her that a few years from now, issues will have all been sorted out and the buildings will have been recertified and repaired. Nobody could sell a condo with extremly expensive charges looming. Maybe you can address these issues in a new video? I'd love to hear your thoughts. We also will need Realtor services.

Thanks for the comment Scotty! The islands are already well on their way to recovery. It will definitely take a while longer to be back to full strength but you are right, I have no doubt they will come back stronger. If you look at any area in Florida that has dealt with a large storm like that they always come back. Insurance is an issue but that is getting resolved as well. There are definitely insurance companies writing policies on the islands but insurance is not cheap anymore and will likely continue to get more expensive just as it is for the entire country. If you shoot me an email or call or text I can connect you with my preferred insurance agents to discuss and we can discuss more specifics on your plans and timeline to help get you more information in order to help you and your wife make an informed decision.
