I was a PlayStation kid until I played Revenge at a friend's house. This is the game that got me to ask for a N64 for Christmas in 1998. I played it from the moment midnight struck and I was allowed to open my presents, all through the night and pretty much the entire Christmas day. I could not believe the intro with Sting! I was 14 at the time and it was probably the greatest intro I had ever seen on any game up until that point. I still remember the exact moment I discovered by accident that you could steal your opponent's finisher. My friend and I were _literally_ screaming and hollering like we'd just discovered the cure for cancer LOL. Great memories.
4 controllers with 1 great player, 2 decent players, and 1 weak player. One of the decent players would rage quit because of something the great player would do. Funny memories 😁
Let's not forget how you could kick out of any pin by taunting. I was the only one in our group of guys who knew this trick, but I only used it with Raven so everyone thought he was indestructible.
I couldnt agree more with you, here. This, ladies and gentlethems is THE king of wrestling games for me personally. Back when I first got to play it, I had no N64. I was at my cousins place who had no console at all, but our parents decided to let us loan out a N64 from a videostore. We got Revenge and since I was a bit WCW Mark during that time, my mind was absolutely blown when I saw that roster and my head filled with all these dream-matches I wanted to do. One moment I remember very particularly. After the first bunch of them with my cousin I wanted to do a cruiserweight-match, I hadnt read the manual (who did?) and I through my cousin outside of the ring and I thought to myself (I was probably Rey or Juvi) "Hm, in reality they'd do a springboard move or suicide dive now. No clue if they are possible in the game." So I ran at the ropes and pushed the right button and bam - springboard move. I couldnt believe it. One thing I also remember that I never experienced afterwards in any game was, that you never could be certain if you finished your opponent with that last finisher you did. So many incredible WTF-Moments were created where you couldnt believe that you didnt get the 3-count after your move and with the opponent being so beaten down. Also, sure Nash and Hall arent in the same group per Roster-Menu, but you could just give Nash the red Outsiders attire, choose them both for a tag match and they'd come out with a tag-entrance that looked real enough to the Outsiders. Incredible. God, I love that game. Once I got home from that trip to my cousin I sold my SNES to buy a N64, a second controller and Revenge. I never bought another N64 game. It was all I needed. (Also you could just loan out games from videostores back then, but in the end I would always go back to playing Revenge.)
There's just something about this game that takes me back to childhood. I usually play it more than the superior No Mercy. I think it does such a great job of capturing the feel of WCW during its peak, in the middle of the biggest boom in wrestling history. This game is such a joy to play.
Been on a mad binge of these AKI games recently. As a kid, I owned World Tour and Warzone. And despite being primarily a fan of WWF, I barely touched Warzone. I’ve introduced my son to these games on my old original hardware and over the years I’ve purchased them all. Revenge is something special. I’m currently playing the English patched VPW64 and VPW2 on RetroArch. I was still sat in my work clothes on Friday night til about 11:30pm. I’m a sucker for nostalgia.
Will forever be my favorite THQ game of all times. World Tour set the tone, WrestleMania 2000 was greatness and No Mercy mastered the engine but Revenge was groundbreaking. So many memories and endless hours of burning out playing this. Still undefeated with Psicosis at Bash at the Beach! Never had more fun with a wrestling game and that includes HCTP! Honestly wish Fight Forever would've been half as good.
'Groundbreaking' is such a great way to describe this game, because it was exactly that. In terms of atmosphere, especially with regards to the music and the various arenas, this game does it best.
Circa '99 this was the go-to game for me and my high school pro wrestling buddy. No matter what we were doing, and regardless of what other new games we may have been playing, "play Revenge?" was always uttered to finish the day.
I played this at friend's houses when it came out. The battle Royale mode was very fun. It as a whos who of wrestling back then. Sure it didn't have barry Horowitz or the Public enemy but it remains a great game to this day

This is the wrestling game I have the most fond memories with. I've always been super grateful that you chose to use music from the game in your videos because in some way it always brings me back to those good times when I hear those tunes. Also, it has in some small way made the game's legacy live on that much more. I can't even imagine how many hours myself, my brothers and my friends spent playing this game over the years. On the odd occasion I still end up busting it out with a friend of mine to this day for a good old fashioned 40 man battle royal. It often sees us making an alliance temporarily with one another only for one of us to suddenly turn on the other and go for an elimination attempt. Chaos in and out of the game. Revenge is such a timeless classic. Modern video games just don't make me feel the same way as they used to when I was younger.
This video best sums up why WCW/nWo Revenge is held in higher regard than games that are objectively better like Wrestlemania 2000. It was the best wrestling game up to that point, released at a time when WCW was on fire, and the roster had everyone you could ever want to see in a ring. The roster being divided into factions is something that I never see get brought up as a big deal, but I remember my friends and I marking out hard over being able to go all nWo wolfpac.
I feel u wb i was big into this and and all the games made by wwf( wwe) and wcw. Im 37 and love ever wrestling game that camed out. Im glad to be a fan of wrestling as well as a wrestler when i was younger. I go back evey now and then and hook up the n64 and play these game.
I used to have a notebook that I kept with this game. I would write down all the ppv and shows I would create. Keep track of the winners and losers. My own story mode. Had a lot of fun with this game. Great video as always ya animal!
It is but to me it's not perfect terrible gameplay I mean glitch when you dominate them do finshers they kick out like nothing it takes three times to beat them
I completely get what you mean about the power of nostalgia. WWF Attitude looking back, is really one of my most disliked WWF games from my childhood. However it holds such a strong place in my heart as me and my buddies used to do Lumberjack matches and simply spend the whole time fighting the Lumberjacks (or running away from them as one friend was appalling at the game!). Got to say I also get that same hit sometimes by jumping onto Pro Evolution Soccer 6, that game was and is still, streets ahead of most football games. Another excellent video man, hope you had a fantastic time at Mania!
Great video. I remember first playing World Tour at my friends house and I was hooked. When WCW/nWo Revenge came out it was everything I could have dreamed of at the time.
Thank you for remaking this video and really doing a great job illustrating why WCW/nWo Revenge was such a soft spot for many of us who grew up in this era playing games with friends. I am an old school Nintendo guy, but the one console where my favorite game isn't a 1st party Nintendo game is N64 - Revenge is that game for me. When this game was new, it was something else. I remember being Juvi in the battle royale mode and how exciting it felt to not only to play as him, but to see the roster depth and alt attires everyone had as they came out. The game kept impressing over and over again. I only wish we got N64 style sound font themes for the wrestlers. That would be the icing on the cake, along with maybe like a hidden Saturday Night arena or unlocking manager selection mode after getting however many high scores. Little things like that would've added more reason to play the game solo so you could show your buddies the cool extra stuff. But, as you stated, the game is fun enough to go back to and play to this very day. It captures the height of WCW before the fall, and I fully agree - it is a time capsule of a simpler time.
War zone was the fist wrestling game i got for ps1 and i played that until my fingers were blistered whioe drinking cans of surge. Then attitude came out and i swear i played that game for most of my childhood. I still remeber how to use hbks super kick.. left, down, right, up, square, x. Good times.
Thank you for this video. I was a huge WCW fan back then and I still remember going to the video game stores in my city every single day looking for this game. The day I finally got a copy was one of the happiest days of my whole life.
me too. I stopped watching wrestling in 94 then when Revenge came out I saw the intro video in a games store and was intrigued why pretty much the entire wwf roster of the early nineties had jumped over to wcw, which back then was a cheap Temu version of WWF. After playing Revenge non stop for weeks I turned TNT on to watch some WCW. The episode... the finger poke of doom.
My favourite Aki experience is by far the Forever Indy mod for No Mercy. It's got all the mid 2000s Feds and wrestlers. Any game that let's you play Super Dragon vs Nick Mondo, I am all for.
First wrestling video game I ever played. It was outdated by the time I got to it, the alliance angle had ended, so it was cool to see the guys in the game that I knew from the alliance.
This is still easily one of my top 3 wrestling games of all time. An amazing roster, the right balance of fun and difficulty... and RANDY ANDERSON AS REF!
God, the games intro brought back so much nostalgia of me and my brother playing this game, even the funny memories of me being upset for losing to him then trying to hit him with my N64 controller lol
I share your enthusiasm for this particular wrestling game. When I had my n64 as a kid, the only two wrestling games I ever bought with my allowance money were WWF War Zone and then WCW/NWO Revenge. I played World Tour over and over at a friend's house, and when I saw Revenge in the store I had to have it. Despite the lack of modes, I played it so, so much.... it almost never left the console for a good long period of time. It's my favorite wrestling game of all time, and yes, I let the intro play almost every single time lol
Man these were the days....i loved all the AKI wrestling games and owned all of them....nothing better than racing home after school and playing this for hours on end with your boys...
this is the game that got me into wrestling in the first place, I was about 8 years old, my parents didnt let me watch the show but I had the game and the toys
@@robgesualdi206 Thanks for asking! logically, as a kid who didn't know about wrestling, I was more interested in the visually impressive ones, those who looked like superheroes, so I remember picking Ultimo Dragon a lot, Rey Mysterio, La Parka, Sting... Some were brought to my attention by my friends who watched the program, like Hogan and Goldberg. I couldn't really grasp the difference between all the wrestlers with more generic gear, but there's on that caught my attention for some reason, that was Jeff Jarrett lollll I don't know if it was the name or the haircut or the guitar, maybe all three, but he was a favorite of mine.
This was the second game my dad bought for me after I bought NBA Courtside in 98. Here Comes The Pain is my favorite wrestling game but prior to that it was this game
Cheers for sharing that Revenge mod! It goes to show how much love there is for these games, and also how much demand there would be for a new game in the same (or a similar) engine.
Just want to say I loved your video and your feelings of nostalgia for this game are shared by many. The way you put it -- a little "time machine" inside a cartridge is perfect. I still pop it in now and then and get taken back to a world when I was 8 years old, playing with my older brother. I love this game and I still believe if a company like AEW or WWE was able to perfectly transport the gameplay into something with a modern roster, it would still hold up very well.
Thank you for your effort to make that awesome video about that gem of a game. Fine memories indeed. You are doing great content and i appreciate your personal opinion on all wrestling related very much. Fantastic work! 💛
I think this is my favorite video game in depth review you've done. Your personal stories about this game makes it that much more special. Thanks Bios 🤘
Oh man, this brings back so many memories. My friends and I would sit around and play this for hours. It fell by the wayside when Wrestlemania 2000 hit, because Create A Wrestler was just too strong, but damn did we get our money's worth and then some. Thanks for the nostalgia hit!
Regular viewer here, though I rarely comment. I just want to say keep up the great work. Like you, I see retro wrestling and retro gaming as an escape from the stress of middle-aged life and I enjoy your humorous and good-natured take on it all.
Me n my friends took it all serious (for fun)! Best moments ever with childhood friends. Still to this day have two friends always argue about their match! 😂its great!
Something really fun to do, using every character to steal Macho Man's Finisher to hear what they shout for "OH YEAH!". Also when anyone tries to steal DDP's Diamond Cutter, they do the bootleg version XD.
1998: what a time to be a wrestling fan! I remember a much younger me back in NZ playing WWF Warzone to death, than heading to a friends place who had an N64 and playing Battle Royals for hours. All while on tv Austin v McMahon played out, and WCW was still firing on all (or most) cylinders. Great times.
I wasn’t a WCW guy, WrestleMania 2000 and No Mercy were my games of choice, but a kid across the street from me had this game and we played the hell out of it, even once the aforementioned WWF games were released. The memories of staying up past my bedtime as a 10 year old, playing WM 2000 with the sound off, my dark bedroom illuminated by the flickering CRT screen. It’s enough to make me cry tbh 😅
I was in high school when this came out and Holy hell my friends Ana i spent probably hundreds of hours playing it. The music is forever burned into my brain.
I used to have a scrapbook which i used to book my own wrestling cards with this game. I loved it so much and kicking out and putting new members into the nwo or wolfpac was super fun. Good times!
I have a cart with every name vandalized and everyone shown in the intro video in either Mortis, THQ/AKI man, or Frank outfits depending on body model, all in florescent colors.
Me and my cousin used to play this and Goldeneye all the time! Used to make our own storylines and then play them out in the game. So many weekends of fun.
This is probably my favorite WWE game.with memories of my best friend and I staying up late at night . 1 memory that sticks out was us using Goldberg and seeing how fast we could beat Lodi. I remember 12 seconds was the record.
What's funny is that I listened to the Starrcade theme from this game hours ago and did not expect this video explaining the deep dive into the game😅. I downloaded a N64 emulator nearly 2 years back and flooded with legendary N64 games and among those were WCW/nWo Revenge. As for someone who was not born during the Monday night War and only began playing this game just two years ago, I gave me glimpse into what WCW was in the past. This game, No Mercy, VPW2 And WM2000 are some of my favorite N64 wrestling games I've played and Revenge is undoubtedly The definite WCW video game of all time
I was a 2000's kid, so i unfortunately wasnt around when this game came out; but i have two cool ass older brothers who had me playing this since i was 4 and didnt even know how to use a controller and played it for years 😂 i still have so many fond memories, the intro, the soundtrack, the ref sprite in the gameplay, and LOVING Rey Mysterio's alt costumes, id always say "i wanna play as the spiderman costume" haha Thanks for this bios, im still riding the high of an amazing Mania 40 and hope you make a short vid at least on Cody's story, considering the influence Dusty had on both companies of the Monday Night War. I wish you the best and cant wait for the next RTW :)
I chenged every character's name to some goofy play on their name. Examples i remember: Raven was Pigeon. British Bulldog was French Poodle. "Shtman" Wet Fart. DDP was Quartz San Antonio Book.
This was the first of the AKI games I owned so it always holds a special place. Not to mention the unparalleled sets and mat logos that the WWF couldn't compete with; nothing beats the pair of Halloween Havoc and Bash at the Beach from Revenge.
I didn’t have n64 but I played this game a lot whenever I went to hang out at my friends out. It was definitely a fun game to play and the matches were really good.
So many hours spent in my buddy Mike’s basement playing this game. We didn’t know how lucky we were. Fond memories of just wailing on each other with foreign objects and hitting the low blows for that little ‘ding’ sound effect.
What a game. Xmas 98 got the n64 with this and goldeneye! It's was incredible. Blew warzone out of the water. So fun and simple. One button for a special. God aki made great games.
Not just best wcw game was the best wrestling game of the 90s because it's the huge roster the great intros the huge options that forced wwe to make no mercy and go above and beyond.
I used to love playing this game, the way you could change colors of outfits were awesome. I had Nash and Giant as my tag team champs, like an NWO Skyscrapers. I also ended up making red & yellow tie dye pants for Hulk Hogan, years before he had that look in his 2002 WWE return.
I remember in 6th grade a kid brought in the strategy guide and that's all it took to hook me. I concentrated so hard on that magazine i can still remember some of the wrestler bios. Traded in my 2 month old ps1 to get a 64 just for this game
I love how you're moving OUT of the chronology and into topics. Thank you for your diligence. Could I make a small request and would you be interested in making a video on the 'ART of the Manager' in professional wrestling? I really feel that it is the sadly forgotten art that modern wrestling seriously needs to reconsider again. It was much MUCH more than a stoolie interferer in matches. For the record, Paul Heyman IS still managing but his role is severely diminished and left to backstage and promos mostly. The fact HE is so well respected and likes by both sides of the wrestling spectrum prove that managers STILL has more to offer the world today. Remember these gems? Scary/Sensational Sherri Slick Bobby Heenan Mr.Fuji. Even Harvey Whippleman and Sapphire count. Those are merely ones I remembered from my days growing up and were a major factor in wrestling.
4 player Revenge and Goldeneye on Friday nights, so much fun
This!!! Both games had a solid chance of a match ending in a wrestling brawl irl
Those were the days 😂
Playing as Oddjob was a potential friendship killer.
@@eveningstar4543No wonder some friends of mine had a no Oddjob rule. Even the developers admitted choosing him is cheating
The Reveng equivalent was no starting with Sting, because it meant you wouldn’t get to see him come down from the rafters with the bat
I remember giving Jericho Ravens outfit and calling him Kurt Cobain
Well, he used a Pearl Jam ripoff for his WCW entrance music, so the grunge fit 😆
…
Smells like gimmick infringement, brother!
Kurt Cobain would’ve loved the buckshot lariat

The AKI games on the N64 were legendary, One of the greatest wrestling games of all time.
Eh no because they were only on the n64

I thought that was in World Tour only
I used the thumb stick to do that. Never knew about the taunt cheese

Christmas 1998 with Goldeneye, Ocarina of Time and Banjo Kazooie. What a time.
Gaulet Legends, with expansion pack. Repetitive but fun and boring

Good times.
I remember me and my best friend growing up walking to Blockbuster to rent the game, reading the game manual on the way back. So many great memories.
I Love lookin at this channel especially lookin at the WCW episodes
Thank you for this video.
I was a huge WCW fan back then and I still remember going to the video game stores in my city every single day looking for this game.
The day I finally got a copy was one of the happiest days of my whole life.
I always thought the referee was nick Patrick I guess not you just cleared that up I'm watching the video now
This game got me back in to wrestling in early 1999
For me No Mercy was my favorite rassling game. Revenge was my 2nd favorite, then 2000.
This game is awesome!
My brother changed his name to Eric Bitchoff and i always picked Han Zo Mon
this is the game that got me into wrestling in the first place, I was about 8 years old, my parents didnt let me watch the show but I had the game and the toys
Who were your favorite wrestlers to be? Interested in who you picked with no frame of reference for their characters
I loved using Scott Steiners screwdriver. You could spam it so fast, and it did a lot a damage!
Absolutely loved World Tour and Revenge. These games pulled me in to watching WCW in the late 90s. Fond memories.
I was in the 8th grade when this game came out, me & my friends would stay up until 2 in the morning playing this 😂😂
Me too man!!!
Great times!!!
Oh man, this brings back so many memories. My friends and I would sit around and play this for hours. It fell by the wayside when Wrestlemania 2000 hit, because Create A Wrestler was just too strong, but damn did we get our money's worth and then some. Thanks for the nostalgia hit!
this game is awesome the gameplay is so much fun I'm so glad this game is being covered in this video.
😂its great!
Correction* Some* of the best moments.
This video was awesome. I love the game btw that hack to have WWF wrestlers is sick. I hope they find out new stuff
Something really fun to do, using every character to steal Macho Man's Finisher to hear what they shout for "OH YEAH!".
Also when anyone tries to steal DDP's Diamond Cutter, they do the bootleg version XD.
Only real ones had to let that into go all the way through before we got an 8 our session with the boys 💪
The bros and I used to play this and Goldeneye from dusk till dawn. Makes you really miss the couch co-op era.
Man back then I used to play Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 and Halo CE for hours with friends
So many weekends with my friends and this game. And all summer the year it came out. Great times and memories.
Revenge and Goldeneye were a sleepover and party must with my friends.
🎉🔥
I wasn’t a WCW guy, WrestleMania 2000 and No Mercy were my games of choice, but a kid across the street from me had this game and we played the hell out of it, even once the aforementioned WWF games were released.
The memories of staying up past my bedtime as a 10 year old, playing WM 2000 with the sound off, my dark bedroom illuminated by the flickering CRT screen. It’s enough to make me cry tbh 😅
I was in high school when this came out and Holy hell my friends Ana i spent probably hundreds of hours playing it. The music is forever burned into my brain.
Nice to see someone get AKI Man some love. I loved his ground and pound “submission”
This game, No Mercy, VPW2 And WM2000 are some of my favorite N64 wrestling games I've played and Revenge is undoubtedly The definite WCW video game of all time
Thank you. Seeing 👀 my childhood memories i was a n64 guy when it came wrestling games
Revenge was the first game I actually had friends come over just to play 4player mode. So many great memories. I still play No Mercy to this day
I had no idea you could play as the managers... Can't wait to try it out, thanks WB!
I was a 2000's kid, so i unfortunately wasnt around when this game came out; but i have two cool ass older brothers who had me playing this since i was 4 and didnt even know how to use a controller and played it for years 😂 i still have so many fond memories, the intro, the soundtrack, the ref sprite in the gameplay, and LOVING Rey Mysterio's alt costumes, id always say "i wanna play as the spiderman costume" haha
Thanks for this bios, im still riding the high of an amazing Mania 40 and hope you make a short vid at least on Cody's story, considering the influence Dusty had on both companies of the Monday Night War. I wish you the best and cant wait for the next RTW :)
First character I created in W2K was Wrath because he wasn't in Revenge. Good times, and another fantastic BIO's vid!
00:59 that Ron Simmons sprite is crazy
I didn’t have n64 but I played this game a lot whenever I went to hang out at my friends out. It was definitely a fun game to play and the matches were really good.
So many hours spent in my buddy Mike’s basement playing this game. We didn’t know how lucky we were. Fond memories of just wailing on each other with foreign objects and hitting the low blows for that little ‘ding’ sound effect.
What a game. Xmas 98 got the n64 with this and goldeneye! It's was incredible. Blew warzone out of the water. So fun and simple. One button for a special. God aki made great games.
You're right.... just a bit of nostalgia goes a long way with being so busy these days
Not just best wcw game was the best wrestling game of the 90s because it's the huge roster the great intros the huge options that forced wwe to make no mercy and go above and beyond.
Saturn was my Ace. The standing side kick, gargoyle Plex, DVD, and Rings. He could also do springboards.
Kanyon and Saturn were fun to use
I used to love playing this game, the way you could change colors of outfits were awesome. I had Nash and Giant as my tag team champs, like an NWO Skyscrapers. I also ended up making red & yellow tie dye pants for Hulk Hogan, years before he had that look in his 2002 WWE return.
The Best WCW Game EVER
Scary/Sensational Sherri
Slick
Bobby Heenan
Mr.Fuji.
Even Harvey Whippleman and Sapphire count.
Those are merely ones I remembered from my days growing up and were a major factor in wrestling.
