Hey Brennan! Hope life is treating you well. I've been following you for a few years now, big fan of your work and your content. I'm 39, been in the catering industry since i was 14. I've been thinking about getting into yachting for a few years now, feel like I may have missed the boat a bit but am going to go for it anyway and get my STCW and ships cook certificate. Question for you... Do you think I'm going to get much of a look in from potential employers at this stage in the game? I feel like my experience is massively beneficial but realise the industry may favour young guns? Any insight from someone like yourself with bags of experience in the yachting game would be much appreciated.
Happy sailing brother.
Hi Nick, I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you. I've been traveling in Latvia.
You're not too old at all. You will struggle to find your first job like all of us did. You might get lucky too. Your land experience won't help you get a job but it will help you keep one once you get it with your amazing food.
A lot depends on what time of year and where you want to start looking. Being in these places in person will cost you more than staying at home and applying online but you'll find a better job much quicker.
I hope that helps.
@@OliveOilandGasoline Hey Brennan, thanks for taking the time to get back to me, appreciate it. Currently completing the STCW and will start applying for jobs soon. Happy traveling!
@@Chefoverboard Sure, people helped me find my first job so it's my turn now. Start to think about packing up your life and heading for Florida or the South of France to find work.
would you mind sharing your bread recipe they look smashing!
I've got a sourdough video if you'd like it?
excellent!@@OliveOilandGasoline
My god your office is stunning!
Thanks for saying so my friend, so is your face! 😉
What an incredible expedition yacht.....is this a sister ship to the Ragnar?😊
ragnar renamed, it was sold
Same boat but it was sold and renamed.
Good one Chef!⚡️
Thanks @eduardonorth4701!
So give us a number... what´s the right countertop hight?
900mm is around 36 inches, I think that's still too short.
Nice toy carrier
Huge area for toys!
Waffle maker? We don't need that! We got a toastie maker! Waffle maker. That's boujie shit! Brennan improvises, adapts and overcomes. He's the MacGyver of the Galley.
Thanks Cliff. I wish I had ideas like that more often!
I d love to listen to you but leave the music out.....
Noted, the music won't be as loud next time.
Ragnar! what's Q? Quest? or some kind of gay liberal elite thing?
A reference to the James Bond series. Basically the opposite of what you assumes. 😀
I assumes. the use of proper english would be a good beginning however Don’t Ass-u-me. Because when you do you make an ASS of U and ME. I never assume, i question. @@OliveOilandGasoline
@@kaspar_1982You stupid cuck, one spelling mistake after replying to everyone's comments and working hard to create free content for all to enjoy and you jump at the chance to correct someone's spelling, take your bullshit neckbeard opinion, wrapped it in paper towel, soak it in olive oil and shelve it.
Ragnar still 🇷🇺?
Negative.

Hello!!!!!!
@@OliveOilandGasoline good to see you’re good…good to hear that laugh… hope dad is doing good and everything healed well…
Just my 2 cents
Improve the audio, speak louder and more clearly into the camera.
More detail on planning, prep and recipes, cheats and tips.
I'll still be watching
Thanks for the feedback, I'll work on those suggestions as they're valid. Keep in mind I don't have a ton of time to film or do things 100% properly. I also don't want perfection getting in the way of progress so I do what I can in the moment. Like I said, your points are valid and I like constructive feedback.
@@OliveOilandGasoline Personally, for me the only thing I had issues with were sometimes the music was too loud to hear you clearly.... Having worn a hearing aid in a kitchen, I think if you try to get complex with mics and stuff it's not going to do all that much to help because it will pick up the engine noise and galley sounds as much or more than it does your voice, and you likely won't have the interaction with crew if you have to mic everyone up. Just try adjusting volume on the music to a slightly lower level overall and dip it down if someone is talking.
Very cool and handy Chef 👍. Thank you for a very interesting and entertaining video. The Story of your "condom" accident whas freaking brilliant (in my backhead i saw you with weights on your feet diving).
Trust me I saw myself with the same lead shoes! Thanks for writing in the comments!
It's a dream job right 😉
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not? 😀
So interesting to see the behind the scenes! The food looks amazing too
Thanks Mistie! This is what I've been doing for 22 years.
How does someone have the courage to fire a chef like you? With that beautiful food and on top of that, such well-made bread. If someone fires you, come talk to me and I’ll deal with them.😆
Cheers,
Vera
Hahahaha thanks Vera! I'll send you after them for me.
I can't imagine being on 223' explorer yacht. What a fun adventure that must have been, especially with all of the toys. Good for you! 🍷
It was a really fun temp gig for the second time. We didn't really use the toys at all.
@@OliveOilandGasoline But you had an awesome time. 🤗
Well, you kind of are saving lives. Food allergies and everything.
Oooooof that's not what I signed up for.
Wait, what?! When did you become the chef on Ragnar! That's like superstar stuff! Ragnar is legendary among yacht aficionados!
No I was just doing a freelance job again on there. Great owner and crew.
Must have missed something. Not on Arience anymore?
No, I haven't been on there for awhile.
@@OliveOilandGasoline How does freelancing work as opposed to regular crew? Is it just for a particular charter or ?
lmao 4:08 no matter where you are or at what level of sophistication your work may be, sometimes you just gotta scare the absolute fuck out of an unsuspecting colleague. Also holy shit man, your "finger condom" story had me wince in sympathetic horror. You're awesome.
I agree with this completely as a mantra/ethos to live and work by. Its one of the cheapest thrills in life. Dopamine on one side, adrenaline and fear for their life on the other.
Imagine to work in an environment where you can fired in a blink of an eye? It says everything how the owner values it’s employees. For decades it is scientific proven that a save an inspiring work environment (save in the meaning of being valued and recognised as an important employee) thrive employees to there max of their contribution and engagement. Which lead to an overall better outcome.
Hello Robert,
I'm all for that sort of environment, it seems quite foreign to me, growing up in restaurants and in the yachting industry which are both hyper competitive and very cut throat. That being said I think it becomes a badge of honor for us to survive and thrive in this sort of business, albeit an unhealthy one.
How do we start to change without the help of the heads of industry?
The following true story shows the power of collaboration. I had team of stock traders, 16 to be exact and if anything is competitive then there with mountains of high egos. Two men were super good and made insane deals. 14 other traders were measured against that in terms of result parameters. They were told every day how worthless they were compared to the two top men. Worst was that the two kept all the knowledge to themselves. So I called them together and told them that now there are two people making 70% of the turnover and there are 14 people who can do the same, but are in the wide funnel with two men blocking it at the exit. So we are not going to remove those two men so that there is flow again but we are turning the funnel around. I convinced the two men that if they teach the other 14 everything they know and guide them from time to time, there will soon be 16 top traders making mega deals. And so it happened. That is just one example if you really understand the power of collaboration. I don’t have an off the shelf solution how to change the mindset in your environment. My experience is that the owner, CEO or whoever is in charge must see the benefits of change. If not than you will be seen as a threat with all the associated risks and consequences. But we can talk about it in a private conversation next time.
Brilliant video Brennan your food looks delicious 😋. Funny looking boat looks like a rig support vessel. Never forget Billionaires still sit down to shit 💩 😂.
Hahahahha yes they do. Everybody poops. Thanks for the compliment and you're right that's what she used to be.
Like watching but cant allways listen to you while the music is playing
You're not the only one to say that. We're working on it!
Is the owner a Bond fan? the Q looks exactly like the symbol from the organisation Quantum...
You nailed it! Big bond fan.
Next time, ask the stews if they have any ideas, they could maybe have discreetly looked for the bandage for you and prevented the guests from noticing?
I've been dressing my wounds for a long time. I wear whole gloves from now. No chance of those falling off.
The joy of provisioning
Such profanity !
Always.
Fine dining....👑.....crockery🥺
Crockery was kind of average?
Thank you for sharing life on a beautiful yacht.😊😊
I like to tell a story. Thanks for following along!
@@OliveOilandGasoline You are welcome.
This is so insanely badass!! So cool to see you in action 💯
Thanks Megan! I'm glad you get a little window into my career.
Just a bad ass yacht chef!!
Thanks homie! So are you!
Rofl, quick thinking on the waffles! Food looks amazing!
Thank you!
if it had been me who had lost something in the food I would have demanded everything back to the kitchen, not let the customer find it,
food security comes before pride
I believe it is easier to fix the customer's feeling that the food disappears for a period of time, than that the customer finds something in their mouth.
I didn't realize it until it was too late. I also lost time thinking that it might have been in the galley somewhere!
Cool video man. I watch some of the other yachts that are more like the Caribbean and European luxury style. Is this yacht designed to be more rugged and go more places?
This is a conversion project. It was originally a tug boat and turned into a yacht called 'Ragnar' now it's been sold and called 'Q'. You can look online and find out about the back story to this yacht.
@@OliveOilandGasoline That makes a lot more sense 😅 thanks for replying I'll make sure to follow
Thanks! The comments and questions are fun too and they help the channel. Ask away.@@JBE158
Hope you can show us the interior, when there's no guess onboard
That's a tough one. Usually I'm not allowed but maybe next time.
If you come to Palma I would like to pay a beer or two…😁 Cheers mate, this kind of videos from you & Dean are opening doors to many Chefs around the world to gain more confidence to jump on board and transit from restaurants onto the sea 🔪
Hell yeah! I love telling stories and I know Dean does, too. It's good to hear that what we're doing is actually helping beyond entertainment.
On Ragnar? good shout 🙂 (edited to add...lot of your followers are super yacht followers by knowing Ragnar lol)
Yeah that is quite interesting how many people recognize it. It is a one of kind boat but it's still cool how people on my channel are so clued into the industry.
@@OliveOilandGasoline "Ragnar" was in the news all over the world in mars of 2022 when fuel-suppliers in Narvik, Norway denied selling fuel to the yacht, due to the Russian invation of Ukraine.
Yup, that sounds about right. She's been sold and will no longer see restrictions of any kind. @@steinjohansen3142
Love your work! Some of those meals looked awesome!
Nice sense of humour and repartee with other crew so I have hesitation in suggesting, like dogs tend to look like their owners, your head looks like the bow of Ragnar! Ugly as but with a beauty of its own!
Thanks @PowhiroMus I think? Hahahaha. That was compliment I think?
The owner must be so proud of the professionalism of the crew and the visitors must be assured of the safety and quality they have bought.Excellent.
The owner was a pretty damned cool guy.
What did the guests think of the waffles? :P
They loved them. I posted the short on IG and the chief stew chimed in again about how much they enjoyed them.
Damn nice! Sorry i'm not rly active on IG. Love your content!@@OliveOilandGasoline
Oh cool - so you are now working on board M/Y Ragnar?
Great and interesting video again.
Hello Mark, I'm just temping from time to time on different boats while I work on my business.
Love your videos.. your energy… and positivity.. in any situation…❤️

Love that boat.... Another sweet vid my man!!! Love the stories...
@dmmness thanks for saying so! Q, is a sweet boat, totally unique. I wish I could show the inside of her.
It's a Waffle 🧇
Yes, yes it is.
Long time no vid .. welcome back
I did a few other recent vids but they didn't do as well as the yachting stuff. Blame TH-cam for not showing them to you. 😀
So,how was cooking on Ragnar... mean Q?
It was good, it's definitely time for a galley refit.

Holy shit. More videos please 🔥🤘
Trying but it's hard to get yacht owners to agree on it.
