    I would be slightly concerned about the concentrated stresses around the x part of the ducati trellis frame, the mounts of your ali box may just shear straight off if it decides to bend. Could be potentially fixed with an extra bit of tube on each side?. But otherwise awesome build, excited to see how that hub motor goes.

If not, I would be interested in buying a e-motorcycle off of you if you're interested in doing another build? , If you can find another Ducati monster or similar to it and you're interested in building another one? I can exchange contact info with you and you can give me a total cost estimate based on this build? If the numbers are doable, we can work something out? Keep up the great work and content Lord Kurt! • @whitejaguar538
    @whitejaguar538 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You need to reinforce the tube frame. The engine was part of the structure. Now you created a pivot point and the modified tubes looks weakened. I would extend the horizontal tube towards the seat and tubing where it was bolted to the engine. Good luck with the build.

    • @LordCurt
      @LordCurt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Got a plan for the tube along those lines. Thanks for the input!

    • @nunolourenco1532
      @nunolourenco1532 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not only that (motor as stress member is lost) but the internal frame cross links were also removed.
      At first, I though this could be somewhat compensated with a stronger battery box (sort of a stress member), at least linked to the rear arm pivot point but, if anything, the box is making it worse by "hanging" on the top of the frame. As is, there should be a direct link between the middle of the frame and the rear arm. All 916/996/998 has something like this, besides the engine as stress member.
      Probably this wasn't a design consideration but, everything added - specially the gigantic (heavy) hub motor - I don't think this will handle very well. Not by Ducati standards, that's for sure.
      Still fun to watch (if you're not a Ducati fan...).

After all the different conversions you made, what battery pack is your favourite and why (maybe video idea?)? Do you prefer the hub motor or the mid-drive you built for the Cafe racer? • @loyee123
    @loyee123 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome work and great explanation of your thinking about each problem. I like the way you solved the swing arm mounting and axle torque arms. Do you think you’ll need some kind of waterproofing around the lid of the battery box? Not sure but is that back tyre on the right way? Also might be good to have the phase wires running down out of the motor to minimise water ingress if you weren’t already planning on doing that.

    • @LordCurt
      @LordCurt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, going to make a gasket for the battery lid, so that’ll be waterproof, just not yet. Downward phase cables is a good idea! I’ll see if we can make it happen during reassembly.
      And yes, the tire is mounted backward. The tire shop guy did it wrong after clear instructions 😞

    Hey Curt! I am just now starting to learn about the whole DIY electric motorcycle conversion world and am really interested in learning more. Is there a forum you recommend joining? Or even a particular thread that is fairly exhaustive in showing everything involved?
    I currently own a dying 1974 Honda CB350F that I would love to keep on the road, and an electric conversion is very appealing. However, I'm having a hard time finding non-TH-cam learning resources; especially forums in which I could ask questions during a build, etc.
    Thanks in advance! (also, your guy's Ducati build is just insane. Huge congrats on that so far!)

      Hey man! Two good resources I use are endless sphere forums, which there are plenty of existing threads about all kinds of topics, and the “electric motorcycle builders” group I’m in on Facebook. Endless sphere is good because you can search and read all day long, and the motorcycle builders group is good because once you have specific questions or want input you get fast, real-time input as long as the question is well presented

    Hey man. I’ve recently gotten a motorcycle from China and I’m looking to tune it since it feels really underpowered/sloppy and the speedometer is VERY inaccurate. It’s a 15kW QS Motor with a FarDriver controller and a 72v 120Ah battery. I’ve ordered the Bluetooth dongle to play with the settings and get it to perform like it should, but I’m not sure how to calibrate the speedometer to display the proper speed. Any tips?

    Amazing work! some really innovative and clever solutions here - especially for the dropouts and the manifold/12v wiring. I built an 17kw enduro ebike previously and the wiring is a bit of a mess and difficult to adjust debug if there are issues - working on an electric motorcycle conversion now and will definitely borrow from this. I'm also just getting into Tig welding - did you use a footpedal for this? My big concern is to bust through the aluminum with too much current and ruin the plates (or bike frame). Also, how did you manage to get good square angles when lining up the aluminum for tacking? with steel you can use magnetic clamps etc but aluminum is non-magnetic. from the video it looks like you just laid them against each other.

    • @LordCurt
      @LordCurt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad it was helpful!
      Foot pedal, yes. Aluminum burns through much easier. It warps and distorts since it’s such a good conductor, so practice plenty before you go for the real pieces. Also give it plenty of time to rest and cool before you cook it all. Warps like nothing else. For the angles, I used a video by “pacific arc tig welding” called “how to tig weld aluminum - tack welding tips!” to get ideas for how to tack correctly. Once tacked, you can bend the correct angle with a square, but be sure to tack plenty once you have the right angle and placement

    • @LordCurt
      @LordCurt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There was a specific reason for it last time, but this one wouldn’t benefit. The controller isn’t pulling pulses the same way the Kelly did that caused an issue with the battery. It would just be an extra level of complexity in this case

  • @wiley551
