  • In conjunction with the Live Demo of the gutting, this is a more in-depth video of the process I went through to gut all the bad boat wiring and pour foam and bootleg mods that were dragging this boat down. We get to see in-depth the process on how Tracker Boats used to build their original bass boats. Now, we get to build it out way! Most fun I've had in a while in the restoration of this vintage Bass tracker 1648 OG bass boat.

    It was a cheaper open cell foam, close cell foam is more expensive but definitely is water resistant. They make marine grade foam but we all know when you put marine grade on a product it is 3 times as much!

      glass boats used to all come with open cell pour foam. The Rangers and Champions I have dealt with had it. They could have 100s of pounds of additional weight if the "sealed" areas for the foam leaked, which most did if they were in the weather. Those were top of the line glass boats and in the 70s and 80's had the good ol open cell foam. who knows where that decision came from, probably pencil pusher told to save company money. as said it was cheaper and by the time it's a problem the boat is well out of warrenty. 😒 go figure...

      I was gonna say you'll be surprised when large companies do to save money the corners that they cut is almost unbelievable!!!🤐🤑🤑

    I’m doing one about the same but with a v in the front tournament 17. I’m putting the casting deck back to the console and a rod locker in the middle with 24 volt trolling motor bats and charger under. Then 2 storage compartments on either side of the pole storage and adding more storage where you pulled the foam out of the back. 12 gallon fuel tank same motor and 2 more bats in back for crank and electriconics. Already did all the console and wiring last season was so funny I was totally the same way just yanked it all out and started over. I also found tons of extra wires in my boat was able to rewire with most of it. Love the channel and you have totally helped me out with the info and the experience of what you have done keep up the good work thanks man

    subbed your channel. when i rebuild a small tin or glass boat i remover all the old foam like you did. clean and vacuum wash with Murphy's cleaner mixed with hot water then dry completely. then put down 4 mil plastic sheeting tape where needed and reapply foam that i mix in large throw away buckets. this way next time it's sooo easy to remove and doesn't stick to the bottom of the hull.

    The pour foam in my 86’ sea nymph bass boat was even worse. I still used pour foam (but it’s a newer more “durable” version) but I built sealed boxes out of ridge styrofoam insulation panels and filled that with the pour foam. Figured it was the best of both worlds and can pull out most of them in one big block.

    Michael, I know a flat casting deck is a highly sought after perk for bass and panfisherman. Could you potentially do a Smoker Craft(or the like of) gator skinned flat bottom and side console? Like, let’s say a Smoker Craft Pro Lodge....but building it yourself. Us PNW guys have limited time through the year to use a full flat deck on a tiny boat. The Columbia River gets VERY rough, even inland to the first damn. 3-10ft white caps...lol

    I’m excited to see you do a boat with a side console. I’d also like to see you do an old fiberglass bass boat like my 1989 challenger pro bass ( hint hint ) and see what you could do with that.

    WOW! Is there no foam other than noodles that can withstand the marine environment? That's crazy. The pour foam should have stood up a lot better than that. Thanks you so much for the information. I was going to use pour foam in my rejuvenation but noodles here I come...

    Hello Mr TBN
    I have a Bass Tracker3. It has to be rebuilt as well. I think it’s in worse shape than your by far. I would like to see more of your videos on this boat. Could you tell me how to find them and if you could tell me how to get to your Amazon store.

    Trying to find some videos on replacing a transom for this boat. I just picked up a 79 Bass tracker, and the transom is shot. Mostly running it electric only but would like to be able to run the 30hp reliably and safely.

    Do you use PVC pipe or electrical conduit to run the electrical wiring through on the project? It appears that maybe that larger abandoned wires may have been sourced to charge a battery at the front of the boat or possibly to remote DC Panel for the trolling motor and electronics. That was my best guess. How about having one OPEN framed area where Tristian can drop in a regular size ice chest for ice and water while he is fishing?

    What about spray in foam Mike Lopez? Im not sure the specifics with it versus standard foam. It would be pretty messy, I think, but may withstand the heat better? Also, if there had been some heat deflector material on the outside of the foam, like in some of your other builds, would that have helped the foam last?

    Hey, I've been watching your videos for awhile now and i'm looking to purchase a 1236 and put a deck on it. Was wondering what you would think of a truck bed liner for easy cleaning over carpet! Thanks, the boats look bad ass

    Is the foam today better? Last longer?

  • @richardcranium5839
    @richardcranium5839 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    wow that foam is scary. at some point when theres a bunch of problems they'll put an expiration date on them like a childs car seat. i wonder about making air chambers(capped pvc pipe) and use just enough foam that they dont rattle. dont forget to check the charging system, as sometimes shorts like that will fry the rectumfriars.

    Hey mike love the progress so far, can’t wait to see more content in this specific build how long of a time line do you suspect this build will take you? I’m trying to gauge a time line for the start of my boat starting this coming week. Like how much time do you work on it everyday in average and how long to you suspect it will take to complete? Thanks bro

    I don't think I would bother putting foam back in the hull. Use the dead spaces as more storage for lightweight items.

    • @centralcoastcamper9631
      @centralcoastcamper9631 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TinyBoatNation That may be true but I have owned several aluminum boats that didn't come with any flotation at all, same goes for fiberglass boats I have owned. The foam may keep the boat from sinking completely, but it will still sink below the water in many cases as I have seen over the years. The 1980 Western 13' Aluminum I am restoring came with no foam under the benches. After I re-power with a much heavier Mercury 9.9 hp 4 stroke it would probably sink even with foam if swamped. Anyway, Mike, I like your work and enjoy your channel. I would like to meet you some time when I pass through Az. again. CCC

    • @orchardblessings9001
      @orchardblessings9001 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The foam doesn't just add floatation which is its most important function, it adds rigidity, those compartments make the hull much more solid and quiet. you would be suprised how much strength it actually adds. kind of like the furniture items that come with the cardboard backing. by itself the cardboard doesn't do much, but add it to the piece of furniture..ie..entertainment center from Walmart or the back of a dresser, and it functions as the main bracing, one it has a hundred nails in it...lol. Foam allows less mechanical bracing. He is correct to put foam (closed cell) back in.
