Located smack in the middle of an urban and crowded locale of Trivandrum, the site was a small plot that was being suffocated by other residential projects from all four sides. The idea of this residence was to have an inward-facing house with all its spaces opening into a funneling central courtyard. The house is aligned in the East-West direction with openings facilitating for maximum cross-ventilation.
Keeping in mind that brick kilns in Trivandrum are a dying industry with people opting out for wire-cut machine made bricks, this was also an attempt to promote this local agriculture-based industry that is on the brink of extinction.
Architect Vinu Daniel walks us through the house carved within pirouetting walls.

you have to appreciate the client's ability to factor in architectural beauty into their cost/benefit analysis of this project which is a rare in Indian culture. Kudos to the architect for designing something so amazing in such a tight space.

It looks unfinished from outside but the wall structure is so unique and i think it'll look better as it ages. It also reminds me of my maternal grandmother's old mud house. It has that kind of feeling. It takes you back to your childhood.

As much I appreciate the desire to build something eco-friendly, I see the utility factor of this house is very little. You lost a lot of space in the wave structures. I wonder what you are utilizing for. If it is just for show purpose, then it will be useless in long run.
