One of the most respected and well liked individuals in the fitness industry. Thank you for the great information and content you have provided us throughout the years. Rest In Peace John Meadows. You will be missed.
The Guy who wears a "Stay hungry" shirt when talking about a tough time after contest prep hahaha Good video as always ;) Loads of support from the Netherlands
RIP John! You will live on through your videos and influence you have had on so many. I'm not a bodybuilder, just workout for general fitness, but I still find some of your information very helpful.
This advice is gold people. I had the same experience too post-diet (finished up single digit though not contest lean). You need to have structure at the end of your diet or you might relapse/binge eat. Thanks for all the knowledge and insights John :)
Thanks for the video John! I did my first show last year and gained 30 pounds in 6 days after the show. I'm doing a lot better now with info from you and others! Thanks again!
I like that the conversation about post-cut dieting is gradually shifting from reverse dieting to recovery dieting, where you are way more aggressive with your caloric increase. It has many benefits, from the physiological ones to psychological ones (a real sense of closure instead of an extended transition still in a caloric deficit, slip ups arrive less frequently and when they do, they are perceived as less of a failure, for example). Of course, like anything in coaching it depends on your athletes preferences/proclivities, but overall it's a really good thing I believe.
This is such a good, well thought-out video. Amazing, practical advice coming from a place of love and an extremely long career and experience base. So good Mr Meadows. Bravo. I’m saving this video and taking this approach after my show in November. Thank you so much!
try the 10/4 diet break system, 10 days deficit or bulk (works for both bulking and cutting), 4 days slight surplus if you are in a deficit or a slight deficit if you are on a bulk, so you maintain you metabolism, keep more lean mass and gain less fat, maintain insulin sensitivity, control hunger pain/binging and this works long term so well that some people just made it to their daily diet, perfect in combination with keto and 16/8 fasting
Just watching his videos. I can't believe such a nice guy, a great father and husband, and someone who shares his knowledge without any prejudice, is gone. Really sad for us, but worse for his kids and wife.
I'm so saddened we've lost such an incredible person...I was never lucky enough to meet him but I have watched his videos forever and could always see what a genuine person he is...I also had to point out, did anyone else notice the thing that flew by to the right around 13:38?
Right on John! Thanks as always. Went through a good reverse 3 years ago after my Masters shows vs shows in my 20s. My Coach said go get one good cheat in turn get back on your 3 weeks out meal plan. It worked better and I felt great. I was fine with it since I didn't really crave anything crazy during prep. Using training to make adjustments is best for me. I track year round. 3-5% adjustments depending on the goal.
Rest in peace John, when I found you and your training style it changed my training life.. I have used 4-5 of your programs and the mountain dog team prepped me for my first bodybuilding contest. Your videos have become a part of my day, waiting for the upload to drop, always knowing that I was gonna learn at least one new thing each time. I will miss the interaction you had with your guests and the passion that you put in to each video. I am still in shock that I will never get a “Hi everybody” again.. Rest in peace John, you will be missed by the 1000’s that you have managed to touch with your teaching. 😢
The nicest person, the more normal in the fitness community. I am really sorry and I don’t know him, never met him and it’s the first time I feel that way about somebody I never knew in person.
I'm happy to be in a career that doesn't require me to do any dieting. I eat whatever, whenever I want. Calisthenics, weightlifting and lot of running keep me in great shape despite generally being in a surplus
Great video!!! Can you do a video on post contest depression ( following binge eating) ?? 6 months of work disappear after ~3 weeks of non controlled eating
I wish I was like most people when it comes to eating. I started lifting beginning of last year after finally getting fed up with my Auschwitz body and I actually gained 35 total lbs in that year. But I've been stuck at that weight for about 7 months, and I've even dropped 6+ lbs actually. I just do not have the appetite of most people. Even drinking my 2000 calorie shakes at night, which was about the only reason I was able to gain that weight, don't seem to be enough now. I think I need to try eating more often, throughout the day, in smaller amounts. Going to try that; doing the same thing over and over sure isn't working. Also I need to start calorie-counting again. I've done it here and there lately but not consistently. Anyone have suggestions for calorie-dense foods to eat? I don't care about fat content (I use olive oil in my shakes lol, and eat 3-4 tbsp of peanut butter straight from the jar).
The most people gain body mass from eating too much carbohydrates. As for calorie dense foods: GRASS FED beef, pork, chicken, GOOD QUALITY eggs, GOOD QUALITY cheese. You can search here on TH-cam ( the MindPump podcast channel had a video for high density foods, the Thomas Delauer channel has good information on that subject, too). Try to mix carbohydrates and protein/fat in your meals. DO NOT heat them, when they are mixed, because of AGEs (Advanced Glycimic End-Products).
That would be 800 calories worth of protein, which over the course of a day isn't bad at all. Carbs also have a protein sparing effect, so you don't necessarily have to eat 200g of protein. Plus your maintenance calories will also go up when you gain weight as well. Either way if you're worried about your body fat getting too high, then don't get to 200lbs and use the mirror to find what weight you need to be at.
John???? I'm 5'8", 250lbs. Looking to Get BACK Down to the 210 to 220lb. range!! I'm finding GOOD Success with BOTH Muscular Development and Weight Loss with 3 meals/day of about 70grams of Protein! With most Carbs Centered around my Training. Even MY Cardio Days! But let me Ask, Please! For Muscle Development sake.... Would it be At Least SAFE? If I Added A 4th Meal of ONLY 70Grams of Protein? And then in Say 1 to 2 Months,,, (IF Still Successful?) Let all 4 meals Reach 100grams??? I should mention,,, I'm KNOWN for Being A BIG Eater! Love REAL Food!!!
When you say 90/10 as clean/fun meals, the "fun" meal has to be with in your macro-range right? As in replace a regular meal with a fun meal that has the same calories right?
Rest in peace John Meadows you've been one of my best influences I've ever had.
same.

Hello John, if you eat 3 meals a day for 200 lb person, that takes 1g/lb approach wouldnt protein per meal will be realy high?
