24/Aug/24, still works, genius. Two things to add: 1. (As long as you can see the horse after cutscene, reload if not) DON'T TRACE, RUN FOR IT. 2. Aim her in LEGS (or butt) to grind down her core with a low-damage pipsqueak. She won't be running you ragged no more. Enjoy your ride, fellow cowpokes.
Still works July 2024.Thanks OP. Took a fair few attempts. The timing is key - make sure you are running before the cutscene. When you find the horse, you cannot lasso it, or study it, so you have to be in a position to click 'jump to horse' and then break it.
Your method by far and away is the best and it's not even in the same ballpark. Other methods are tedious and the eagle eye is a joke. The hardest part is just getting on the Fox Trotter. Thank you. I wasted my time watching other videos that didn't work. Yours worked the third time. Tbh the first two were my fault 🤣
Still works on April 30, 2024! Did it on 3 separate saves. I was having issues getting my horse to stay in the right place, but noticed if I whistle right as I’m approaching Albert but before the first cutscene starts then my horse would stay where I needed him. Took a few tries, seems like only 1 or 2 horses from the group wouldn’t despawn but eventually got the MFT to be one of them! Thanks for the vid!
Man I’ve struggled all morning getting the MFT for Arthur I’ve gone through many videos and tips and they’ve failed but with your method I got it in my first attempt 🤙🏽

Still works as of Oct 2024 on Ps5. Two tips. 1. There’s a big tree as you herd them towards the camera, if you start galloping when the herd passes that you will easily beat the herd to the camera and can ride all the way in. 2) my horse was always spooked starting the mission make sure to calm it so it stays put. Damn! You did get lucky! Ive been using the stagecoach trick and a fast horse. You nailed it with only the Raven Shire! Nice work! Im definitely going to have to try it this way next time! Catching this MF has become one of my favorite and most rewarding parts of the game.
I found out for the chase part, driving it into the trees works the best so that they slow it down. Otherwise, the whole chase can be a really long one in the open grassland😀
Just track it and NO RUNNING, Just move slowly and keep tracking , just watch the tracking bar, all of u need is track then ride your horse slowly then follow the track, DONT RUN with your horse, that is the easy way, i already tried it
@speakthefact8717 interesting. I've heard people mention tracking it, so on multiple plays, I tried eagle eye in its path and got no tracks at all. I've also tried to approach it slowly and it bolts within 100 ft.
@speakthefact8717 I use the stagecoach method and an American Standardbred. I haul ass and it's already quite a ways away by the time I catch up with it. I do get it on the first try pretty consistently now.
Just got her today using this method. Truth be told, the hardest part was jumping onto the MFT. Chasing her down took a while, but I never lost sight of her and I must've ran my poor thoroughbred into four trees before I finally caught her. Knowing how to handle your horse and navigate through the terrain is key, here.
Still works. The key is to sit your horse near the position in the video. Make sure to tell him stay so he won't wonder around. Also when you chasing them to the swamp and they turn left before you see mason. Yelling at them one more time and run to Mason ASAP you should see Arthur in horses running cutscene. The rest is kinda easy
I did this a few fays ago it works but my goodness, if you don't catch him in that small pack of trees right immediately ahead, good luck!!! A few times I chased him into the night for maybe 20 mins each time. When he gets out in the open further away he is so fast and as soon as you get anywhere close he jerks in a random direction where you just plow into it. Think it even bucked me a few different times because my hands eere worn out. Well worth it because I love the remarks npcs give while riding this just different than any other horse
Can confirm this still works 2025/01/06. I did it on PS4. But if you are just slightly too slow after Mason takes the picture then you wont even see the horses. Like in this video, you need to get to Mason as fast as you can after the horses start to auto run and then skip cut scene and then ride like hell with with a decently fast horse. Out of like 10 tries I only saw the horses on two tries and got it on the second time. I used the wagon block method and a black arabian and still found it very hard. Maybe its easier on Xbox or PC? I dont know. MFT is a great horse but isnt this coat a little ugly? Looks like an accident in a Paint Shop :D
I recommend disabling auto-save before trying this it doesn't matter if you manage to get it on your first try, but if you need to load a save and start again you will get screwed over by the autosave overwrite prompt after the albert cutscene why r* thinks its a good idea for an 'autosave' function to prompt the user if they want to overwrite is beyond me...
Worked 4/24/24 Make sure to target the correct horse with dead eye to track, he doubled back on me and took me on quite a chase, but got him by jumping to him on 4th try.
24/oct 3rd. Maybe i cant but when i chase it there is no option to calm it, when i wanna jump on it the bar appears but when i press it to jump it does nothing...?
I did this last night, it took me 2 hrs to get it. Every time I wouldn’t see the MFT until the last one where I succeeded. However, it took me about another 40 mins to catch the mofo lol.
For those who are on PC, just know that will not work. The horses de-spawn after the cutscene. The only way to keep the Silver Dapple in the game on this mission is the old "track it" strategy.
I'm on a PC and use an xbox type of controller. The method works obviously on any platform. About the method, I guess it's to each his own. You can definitely use that "track it" strategy if it works best for you. If you really want to test if my method works, you can try more times and you will find out it works in the end😄
@@regina77phalange I have the exact same setup. What are your game settings like on PC? Whether I use the stagecoach or this method, those horses despawn after the cut scene if I don't track them. But I see by the comments I am in the minority on this 🤣
@@inspectorwinship9538 I think my other settings are the defaults. I believe both methods share the same logic. We want to trigger the cutscene as early as possible so that the horses don't run too far. The stagecoach slows them down and the other method like tracking or mine here is to make them not run too far. Also we have to make sure our horse is near so we hop on it quickly
I'm on PC with keyboard and mouse. I just got the MFT using this method. It's not patched. It still works. It's all about splitting off from driving the horses as early as you can, getting to Albert and triggering and skipping the cut scene as fast as possible. If you've done this right the horses will still just be in view as they go into the trees. Chase them down quickly. So long as you managed to catch up with them before they despawn, you're good. You can then take your time to pursue the MFT and make the leap onto her.
PC 2020.10.4 still works. 1. I still used the stagecoach to cross the two trees on the railway, creating an obstacle when the horses ran away. 2. The rest is according to regina_phalange's method. Success! In addition: When you start to drive her away, you can use a revolver or hunting rifle to shoot her butt to make her run slower. After the cutscene, you can see traces of horses on the ground. Tracking, you can't use a lasso, you can only jump. If you are thrown off in the middle, you need to jump back from your horse and feed her until you reach level one tacit understanding. Then save and reload. Thanks to regina_phalange!
Holy crap i managed to do it my 3rd time through. You have to make sure you put your house between albert and the clump of trees where the herd runs to and then once you skip the cut scene get on your horse and start running in that direction. There will be another group of horses off to your left DO NOT go after those just keep going in tbe same direction he does in this video. I kept starting over because i thought the herd of horses despawned. Youll just barely see the speckled butt in front of you keep chasing it until you can jump on. I even accidently ran my horse into the MGT knocking us both over, kimda think it helped cause it slowed the mft down a bit and then i jumped on. You have to hold the jump on button not just tap it like you normally would. And the mft will buck forever before you tame it. Then tell your normal horse to stay (the first time i managed to tame and had my other horse follow me to the stable when it did the stable cut scene i was no longer on the MFT) amd ride very carefully to the closes stable. I swear to god the game will through every thing it can at you to make you get off. I was attacked by bounty hunters (im in chapter 6 when youre wanted in Annesburg) then i ran into some Lemoyne raiders and then a fucking pack of wolves. But i got her!
Yes, it still works. But I don't think you are doing the right thing. You skip the cutscene and chase the horse and tame it and get level1 bond with it. And you save and load

Thank you for saying so, dude. I guess the earliest point we can get it is Chapter3 "Horse flesh for dinner"? In Chapter2, I have never seen any of a Turk in any of the chance encounters or so at least so far🥲 In fact, I believe the Turks are the last you can unlock on your Compendium "horse", too.

In this video, I got really lucky since I succeeded jumping on it before it ran far. Normally, even now, I have to chase it like 15 mins to get it, too. In my early days once, it took me almost 2 hrs but lost it in the end. My suggestion is you don't tail it too tight. You speed up a bit and slow down a bit. Try not to chase it around in the very open space. Need some obstacles to slow it down. Really need patience
@@regina77phalange already solve the problem, so the reasson i always got dumped while trying to tame the horse is because i got trippd either by my horse or by the tree everytime i got tripped while taming lost balance and fail to tame. Because most of the time i jump into the horse while in jungle so many tree suronding, because i cant catch the horse in open field the horse is too fast im riding tiger triped bay mustang then i change to my arabian white so i can reach the horse while she run full speed in open field no distaction dont get triped by aything while trying to tameing.
haha..initially i thought it wasn't working any more. Went to try again. Manage to get it, fell off a cliff and died.🤣😂🤭. So it's definitely working but it's hell of a work not only the timing but your main horse have to be facing the horse way of direction and while herding the horse, don't use your horse, use mason's horse as they will definitely spawn your horse behind after the cutscene making you lose sight of the horse traces or view of the horse. This is not a easy glitch to get on the horse. but if you enjoy challenges go ahead. 🤗🤗😝
You can catch mft, but it is counteracted and even if you increase the intimacy level, you can't pet it and if you get off the horse, you can't ride it again. If you go to the stable, you can saddle him, but you still can't ride him once he gets off. 02/23/2024

I got my MFT Silver Dapple Pinto, it's a male MFT and it's level 4 I named my MFT "BUCK" and I also have a Turkoman silver which is also level 4 and a male horse. My main horse rn is a Male Black Standarbred which is also level 4 . I did not get my MFT from the OLD Lady. I got it with no mods but I don't wanna tell how I got my MFT and Turkoman which you can only get them in the epilogue. Im happy and blessed that I got my MFT Silver Dapple Pinto and Turkoman Silver early in my 5th Playthrough😊.

I can’t get it to work, I’ve been trying for 2 Hours and I’ve only managed to even chase it once, and then I was never able to jump on. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong
maybe you don't want to tail it too tight. That way it will be keeping agitated and runs very fast. You slow down a bit and let it slow down a bit and then you speed up to get nearer
I think its patched now because when i get close it shows triangle to mount horse but its faded instead of bold lettering Edit: you actually have to jump on the horse. Took me three times but i broke it in half
If you are sure the side mission is still there, it's not there probably because 1. it's night time 2. there isn't enough time for this phase of Side Mission to exist. Normally, after the wolf picture in North area, you have to wait 1 day or 2 for the next stage of Mason's Side Mission😄

30/11/2023. Still works! OP is correct. It’s all timing. Rushing to Albert once the horse is in the correct direction is important.

the most effective way is to track the horse, MFT so quick and can camouflage very well on the trees

Yes, it still works. But I don't think you are doing the right thing. You skip the cutscene and chase the horse and tame it and get level1 bond with it. And you save and load

This horse is easier than ecquirinh mustang tiger striped bay from new austin as arthut, but 1 problem dude i cannot tame the horse everytime i jump into the horse she always break away im using analog tirck half left bottom analog but always the horse break away already tried this 7 or 9 time i though i missed something but i follow all rule
In this video, I got really lucky since I succeeded jumping on it before it ran far. Normally, even now, I have to chase it like 15 mins to get it, too. In my early days once, it took me almost 2 hrs but lost it in the end. My suggestion is you don't tail it too tight. You speed up a bit and slow down a bit. Try not to chase it around in the very open space. Need some obstacles to slow it down. Really need patience
@@regina77phalange already solve the problem, so the reasson i always got dumped while trying to tame the horse is because i got trippd either by my horse or by the tree everytime i got tripped while taming lost balance and fail to tame. Because most of the time i jump into the horse while in jungle so many tree suronding, because i cant catch the horse in open field the horse is too fast im riding tiger triped bay mustang then i change to my arabian white so i can reach the horse while she run full speed in open field no distaction dont get triped by aything while trying to tameing.
The horse is bugged, you can stable it but thats all. You wont be able to use it afterwards
But you should be able to use it after stabling it I believe

haha..initially i thought it wasn't working any more. Went to try again. Manage to get it, fell off a cliff and died.🤣😂🤭. So it's definitely working but it's hell of a work not only the timing but your main horse have to be facing the horse way of direction and while herding the horse, don't use your horse, use mason's horse as they will definitely spawn your horse behind after the cutscene making you lose sight of the horse traces or view of the horse. This is not a easy glitch to get on the horse. but if you enjoy challenges go ahead. 🤗🤗😝

You can catch mft, but it is counteracted and even if you increase the intimacy level, you can't pet it and if you get off the horse, you can't ride it again.
If you go to the stable, you can saddle him, but you still can't ride him once he gets off.

I'm at my 5th Playthrough on my PS4 rn I am on chapter 2 again 13% on the story it's my favorite playthrough since my other playthroughs I explored every part of the map, studied half of all the animal breeds/species, I got my best saved outfits and have $10k+. I got my MFT Silver Dapple Pinto, it's a male MFT and it's level 4 I named my MFT "BUCK" and I also have a Turkoman silver which is also level 4 and a male horse. My main horse rn is a Male Black Standarbred which is also level 4 . I did not get my MFT from the OLD Lady. I got it with no mods but I don't wanna tell how I got my MFT and Turkoman which you can only get them in the epilogue. Im happy and blessed that I got my MFT Silver Dapple Pinto and Turkoman Silver early in my 5th Playthrough😊.

it is the 3rd stage of this photographer's side mission. You have to finish the first 2 stages and come here and wait maybe 1 day or 2 days in game to pass for this event to show up here

I can’t get it to work, I’ve been trying for 2 Hours and I’ve only managed to even chase it once, and then I was never able to jump on. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong
maybe you don't want to tail it too tight. That way it will be keeping agitated and runs very fast. You slow down a bit and let it slow down a bit and then you speed up to get nearer

this is the 3rd stage of Mason's side mission. Make sure you give it some time after stage2 and I remember you can do this in daytime(not too late).

I think its patched now because when i get close it shows triangle to mount horse but its faded instead of bold lettering
Edit: you actually have to jump on the horse. Took me three times but i broke it in half
I reloaded my save and he's gone
If you are sure the side mission is still there, it's not there probably because 1. it's night time 2. there isn't enough time for this phase of Side Mission to exist. Normally, after the wolf picture in North area, you have to wait 1 day or 2 for the next stage of Mason's Side Mission😄

I finally got it after 4 tries, it ran away forever, 20 minutes long. Finally I can play with the horse together with Arthur THANK YOU. 🫶🏻
