@@Mr-Bug-UK Maybe do the deliveries the other way round, take the coal over and leave it at the drop point, then do garbage (might also stop the bags from in the back from despawning) then finish the coal delivery
Most efficient route for garbage I've found is start in Oedo, work your way towards the garbage dump. Should be full by the time you leave the fishing village.

I fast travel sometimes by joining the workers league and fast traveling to where I need to, then go back to my game to finish. I use the workers league because all the homes are bought and people usually have many campys about the map.

it does restart your bus and truck routes , so keep that in mind.
