Dear Carl, this is still the very best guitar teaching channel ever. After so many years. You totally saved me on the third chord of D based Progression as I kept trying to fret the B string with the pinky. Thank you so much for the epic work you did and hopefully still do.
Dude please do hit the lights I've been searching a lot for quality lessons of that song and your'e the only guy I know who is quality. That would be absolutely phenomenal!
First time that I see somebody play that open A riff the right way that starts at 1:29 and the riff at 6:55 in the song. So many great guitar players on youtube but almost none of them play those 2 riffs right.
I have to admit; if you dont start playing the first three bars with this tutorial a little bit of practice you might as well forget it...the G chord on the 9th fret second bar that James leaves out some timess is not easy to play and depending on your hand size it may give you string buzz...this tutorial is awesome!
first heard this song two years ago when I started playing guitar (it was also around the time when I was here watching every Metallica lesson you did twice) I wanted to learn this song so bad then I finally learned it by ear a LONG time ago but nice to see you finally did it :) (and before someone asks why I'm here if I already know the song it's because I just watched an andirons video on the sterling Majesty and the inlays were identical to Carl's guitar and I came back to see if he has one)
Nice @ 13:34 part of that is a Dave riff, similar style to "This was my Life" open E/A, 1st E open A, 2nd E open A and so on. Thats part of the Megadeth riff, Deff Dave!! Nice job, wouldnt noticed, but when you slow it down the fingering is a modified version, obviously this was a decade before "My Life", but that song (This was My Life) has incredible licks that I used as a practice for dexterity. TYBM for the vids love em.
@@United_HVAC_and_Fans I got it but, I can't moved my fingers like that. I have to finger each note and not really with the finger tips but, the bottom of my finger tips like the top of the finger print area . Not like how Carl basically alternates back and forth. I have big hands and fingers.
@@OscarYankee2024 haha, I didn't end up learning the whole song back then, but I'm just getting back to guitar after a long period of not playing, so thanks for the reminder, I'll try to finish it this time around 🤣

You play the hangar 18 bit the hard way. Play a regular d minor chord then for the second chord slide your second finger up to the 3 fret on the G string. For the next one use your pinky onto the 4th fret of the G and you barely have to change positions. So much easier and smoother.
please do more metallica... "maunkind" damage inc, disposable heros and the thing the should not be thanks every1 who wants to play well watch this teachers lessons and his research live /studio performances get many details, well done! keep metallica flowing!
i always play the intro using the open high E i hear it has the ending note on each position, im sure the correct way its with barring index, but i think that as long as is the right notes same melody comes out

3 months with my first electric (no amp) Im still a beginner...I can play this up to the 10th bar ( the arpeggio that is played from the 5th to the 1st string) 1 1/2 week 1/2 hr practice a day...not bad right!? That hangar 18 riff he mention sounds pretty cool with distortion...cant wait to get my Vox amplug ac 30 with the cabinet...when I get good at playing this entire song I'll buy an amp ( a real amp) :)
During the first part of the intro If your ring finger isn't coordinated yet you can use your pinky to make the movement and hold the g string with ring finger instead.
kind advice, please provide a drawing with finger placement as you play otherwise it takes us 20 minutes to figure out where you are hitting the notes. it will make massive difference to also have tabs with finger placement too.
Thank you very much! You should definitely do some death magnetic songs. Preferably That was just your life, All nightmare long, The day that never comes, Suicide and redemption

3:18 of the actual song track is the best guitar riff in metal history. Thanks for teaching me to play it correctly instead of with all 1--3's

Fucking mustain chords...
Jeff Lund he wrote the part of the intro part he is credited for it. He even used it in hangar 18 but in hangar 18 its strummed
I read somewhere that Kirk learned about the intro arpeggios and broken chords from Yngwie Malmsteen
@@andyspitz2948 James/Lars wrote most of the song based on the intro made by Dave
