I just started learning knots a few days ago and started to think “I should learn enough knots to make a dog harness!” Easier said than done for a novice. ;)

@@KnottingKnots I'm new to this art form and dying cotton rope for leashes-just finishing the second one. The first length of rope I got is so tight that matching your tutorial visually is a challenge. I'm nowhere near the point of having it memorized because of that, so sections of this video are helping me daily! Tool info: Got a Fiskars ratcheting anvil pruner yesterday, cuts tight 3/4" like butter, and it's easy on the hands. Thanks for the link!
I love your videos, I’m a 100% disabled veteran and I have been following your instructional videos, all the items I make I give away for free at the Veterans Hospital here in San Diego CA, USA. I have been making dog collars and leashes for vet service dogs and I use stainless hardware and I was wonder will the cats paw splice work with a thimble
Ex Royal Navy myself, tis a good thing that you are doing stuff for the VH. I now really wonder if thimble would sit well with the Cat's Paw?? Maybe a good solution would be to put in a thimble and then add some seizing to lock it in place.
Excellent. I think I would keep it short, like you have in your example. From my experience with willful dogs the long part of the leash can get tangled, gets dragged on the ground, pulled through mud, standing water and ahem other "stuff" it can get pretty grimy and frayed.
Thank you for answering so quickly, I will buy some nylon 3 strand rope and try out the cats paw hitch and let you know the results, I hope you do not mind me using part of your ideas. I do change parts so they are mine. I too do not like to burn the ends so I normally tie a lanyard knot and then add beads to the ends. I love Australia, I was there in the of 1972 and the beginning of 1973 for rest and recuperation far my tour in southeast Asian, for 6 weeks. I was then stationed in Germany where I got several chances to visit England. And as General Patton said the only thing separating us is our common language. It took me several days to understand what was being said, London is OK but the country side is fantastic. I took up paracording after being wounded in Iraq while disarming several bombs, the bombs didn't go off a mortar hit next to me killing my partner and throwing me over 200 feet thru the air, and thru 2 walls, so I know what it means to be hospitalized 2 1/2 years. I no longer have any feelings in my hands so it takes me much longer to make something. But in the end it is worth every minute that it takes me. Oh I was Army Special Forces, and we worked with SAS from both England and Australia.
Many thanks for sharing some of your military stories. For me, my claim to fame was; Falklands, Gulf 1 and former Yugoslavia. I would say, that it must be rather difficult to knot and get the tension right, especially when your hands do not feel. It is good that you are seeing something and then making it yours. I often use two coloured whipping to make the work stand out a bit more. And like you, I would rather tuck the ends away than melt!!
Hi Again another great and well explained tutorial, Can you or any of you followers point me to a place that I can get a small hand held marlin spike from? Found a fid and needles just after a cheap small spike as just starting out . Thanks and keep up the good work.
I would say, take a look at eBay, as they do come up now and again. Then also depending in which country you are, you may be interest in the following: The Marlin Spike you see in the video comes from PJ who lives in the States he can be contacted at: peejay1000@aol.com In Europe the best place I know is Mikko Snellman, an internet search will bring up his web site. Also if you are on Facebook there are a couple of groups dedicated to the marlin spike.
I got the lighter off eBay, it is a turbo lighter. If you are looking to get one, and you want to decorate it like mine, just make sure that the body can be easily convered. There are loads here: rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?ff3=4&toolid=11800&pub=5575285280&campid=5338064521&mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3Dturbo%2Blighter%26rt%3Dnc

J'adore superbe laisse pour chien. Merci pour vox tutos
Merci d'avoir pris le temps de voir et de faire un commentaire, très apprécié. Êtes-vous plus un noueur pratique ou décoratif?

Very nice. Can I splice the ends into the cord rather than adding the whiping?
Yes of course!
What is the finishing solution that you use.
Here is the video on that: th-cam.com/video/G9iI7Rm33io/w-d-xo.html
I made one like that but I just made an eye splice for the handle and a backsplice to connect to the clip
Oh, sorry I missed this comment, as I do try to reply to all.
That’s alright

Thanks a lot and keep up the great work.
Simple, straightforward and well explained. This is a good starter project.
I really love this one, as it is so simple but you end up with a nice nautical looking dog lead.
Do you have a paracord dog leash video?
Sorry no, and now something else has been added to my long to do list 😉 😉 😉
Hi, great series of videos and thanks for sharing. Where did you get your gas torch from?

Finishing solution?
Here is a post and video that I did a while ago on the Finishing Solution: igkt-solent.co.uk/paracord-rope-work-finishing-solution/
Sailrite or screwdriver. Amazon!
? not sure what you are saying.
It's for gibbons that have pet dogs.
