Lockdown ends - dealing with dust in a campervan

  • I suffer if there is too much dust in the air in the van so in this video I talk about dealing with dust in a campervan. We enjoy some fish & chips in a potential park up and explore another one for later. Here in England the lockdown is ending on 2nd December and so we are free to test how our van handles the cold with just the curtains providing the insulation. The temperature drops to 1 deg c outside. Soon we will be back out on the road.

    A nice visit with ken n Carol! How fun to camp in the drive. Mom mother owns a pull behind camper, it sits in the drive when not being used. Often she’ll go out and spend the day in it for a “change of scenery “! She says it satisfies the longing to get out and go somewhere...but only for a day or so! Happy travels! Mary

    A few years ago I enthusiastically bought a full set of anti allergy bedding. The minute I opened the packaging I was overwhelmed but the intense chemical smell. I went to bed,but couldn't get to sleep for the smell. The next day I had a sore throat all day. I persevered with the bedding for seven night's but just couldn't stand it. When looking at the packaging it listed numerous chemicals with unpronounceable names.
    I have now gone 100 percent natural with heavy wool blankets feather quilts and in the winter Merino wool thermals.
    I now sleep like a log.

    Had to laugh at the "cautious" person at the roundabout, we've had a few installed in our small city (here in the States) & it's very difficult for folks who haven't used them to adapt - that it isn't necessary to come to full stops (we, of course, have stop signs or lights), that they're designed to give enough room to merge in. (Have driven nearly 3000 miles around the UK in the past - loved roundabouts other than the first two, before getting the hang of them - meant to go into Oxford but wound up in Didcot - lol).

    • @LifeistooshortCK
      @LifeistooshortCK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a town in England called Swindon with a series of linked roundabouts that is a nightmare to drive if you are not used to it. The first time I encountered it I was towing a caravan. Search for magic roundabout Swindon. 😳😁👍

    Nice video both - we are keen to see if external screens reduce condensation generally in the van but we expect it to be the same as you on sides and rear - think it’s just a fact of small spaces. Of course ext screen not so good wild camping. We still use karcher as have a bit of space but anticipate on longer tours we will move to a cloth. Tried crystals and didn’t see me to make a huge difference

    • @LifeistooshortCK
      @LifeistooshortCK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We have resigned ourselves to just dealing with the condensation now. We are out on a trip at the moment and its cold and wet outside so we bring in a lot of moisture on our coats. Aircon is our master weapon. If it gets too bad its engine on and aircon on. Crystals didn’t work for us either. People do say external screens do sort the biggest window 👍

      Hi Lee. If you can watch it for free then it was ok. Not as good as the other two though. It will convince you not to try it on an electric bike though. If you want to see something in that vain but funnier with some real challenges and no support crew check out a guy called Ed March, his channel is c90adventures. Another good video. I see you have a roll matt behind your pillows to stop the cold. That’s a good idea which I’ll will try. Can I ask what make are your stuff bags for the bedding are ? They look so light but strong. Mine is far too thick and heavy.

    • @LifeistooshortCK
      @LifeistooshortCK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That roll mat makes a huge difference. Wish we could find a grey one that matches in better with the van carpet though. This is the link you need for those big dry sacks. They are very good, strong and fold to nothing when empty. Gives good protection if anything falls out into the mud when opening the rear doors as well 👍. amzn.to/3lYvbtL

      @@LifeistooshortCK if you can find them I would recommend Fogarty's pure new wool duvets. I have used them indoors and in several different vans for the past 20 years since I first came across them. There is no tog rating and they are suitable for all seasons although I find too warm in the summer when I now use a cotton throw with a synthetic batting layer internally. Used to use a thing called a quillow in the warmer months but they've disappeared it seems. If you want hollowfibre Fogarty do those too in a set that marries a 3tog and a 10 fitted together with poppers. Make sure your pillows are holofil too. They can be worse than your quilt for respiratory problems. I have interstitial lung disease but that isn't affected so much by dust and dander it seems. @@LifeistooshortCK ok, is that heater using oxygen from inside the vehicle? In that case it will make more humidity. That's hard to solve. A diesel heater could be better perhaps. It will dry out the inside. Regards Rickard from Sweden

      It has an external air intake and exhaust. Run on its own it doesn’t create a problem. The condensation comes from cooking and our breathing. We are interested in a diesel heater though, maybe in our next van 😊

      @@LifeistooshortCK well, then you're good, but humid weather and rain is hard to defend yourself against. Just dry it off with a cloth in the morning I suppose. 🙂
