    I may have to look at this before finally making up my mind on another WLG aircraft. The livery is very smart and welcoming, however with another 120 on order the wait time will probably make up my mind to go with first choice.

      save yourself a bundle of money by purchasing a second hand bell 222A, paint it black and white and pretend its Airwolf.

    They need to design an emergency tail rotor recovery device - when the tail rotor fails, the recovery device activates just long enough to get the helicopter down. Perhaps a "rocket" based device that is powered by the helicopter's fuel that generates a variable/selectable force perpendicular and opposite to the main rotor until the helicopter can land.

      A great idea William, certainly some sort of back-up system is urgently required

      Use of turbine exhaust flow to the tail tip with some diverter to stabilize tail is possible.

      @@homeidea2010 ---- Might work - but something is needed to develop the counter torque created by the main rotor. Does not have to work long - just long enough to land. If I were a Billionaire I would want one on my Helicopter - or I would not fly in Helicopter.

      @@tomm4518 I understand the AW139 is the bigger sister to the AW169 but it would appear severe tail rotor mechanical faults are being overlooked by the manufacturer. What have you learnt from these incidents? >>>
      A139, vicinity Sky Shuttle Heliport Hong Kong China, 2010 (On 3 July 2010, an AW 139 helicopter was climbing through 350 feet over water two minutes after takeoff when the tail rotor fell off. A transition to autorotation was accomplished and a controlled ditching followed. All on board were rescued, some sustained minor injuries. The failure was attributed entirely to manufacturing defects but no action was taken until two similar accidents had occurred in Qatar (non-fatal) and Brazil (fatal) the following year and two Safety Recommendations had been issued from this Investigation after which a comprehensive review of the manufacturing process resulted in numerous changes monitored by EASA.)

      Lee Ryan if you look at the ascent of G-VSKP (rest in peace) , do you think the initial takeoff, fwd move, hover, backward move and further ascent look normal? Something looks unsettled about the entire ascent to me. Also, under what circumstances of TRF can a pilot auto rotate to land? Was more altitude needed? Can the clutch be disengaged on the AW169 in flight? Thanks.

      @homeidea2010 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joefagan9335 If the clutch is slip may be the problem too. When engine run but not enough power to rotor this make rotor rotation speed dropped and lead to open main rotor more positive pitch, make more counter torque to the whole body that tail rotor can not resist it's counter torque, lead to uncontrollable spin. Just my guess.

  • @homeidea2010

    I think AW169 has two weak points. Clutch system may not fully engaged or slip in operation can lead to rotor speed drop and lost lift. Second there is no back up power call APU. if main engine down or the alternator gone bad, the electronical control and system may be failed lead to uncontrollable situation.

      Like it or not, this is full Italian concept and technology from Leonardo made in Sesto Calende (Italy), although they keep using the old Agusta-Westland brand name. Be informed before saying nonsense.

    these things are a death trap, just reading the report of the Leicester crash. So after only 331 hours of use there is an uncontrollable mechanical failure and everyone is killed. There is no backup, no counter measure, no way to escape. The denialism around helicopter safety really pisses me off, you'll never get me in one.
