G'day Everyone, I'm trying to "up" the content delivery here on our Channel as many of you have requested more vids and I love making them for you! Anyway, thanks a ton for your ongoing support! Cheers :)
Excellent. Would love to see more. My blueberry pretty stunted at this stage. Need some acid it would seem. Im currently focussing on mushrooms up on mt mellum. Using the elephant grass (fire hazard & weed) and turning it into gourmet mushrooms.
i grow my blueberries in the ground in Brisbane, it nearly died the second year after struggling the first year. Then I started routinely adding coffee grounds around it, not only did it save the tree, it flourishes and fruits beautifully for months on end now.
This gives me hope! I've been trying real hard to baby my blueberry bush that I planted this spring and it's leaves keep turning purple/red/yellow. Then I started adding grounds to it and it's resprouted from the base. I hope that it'll keep growing but im glad to hear that someone else has had success doing this.
Mark. I am finally presenting myself here and tell about my garden with 9 only raised veggie beds. I and my wife have been doing this for 3yrs now. I do only following exactly what you instructed. This year I did not use any kind of pesticides at all. What I did was I got sample cups (old Chinese take out soup cups, old cup a beta fish came in) and I used those and a long grabber to humanely catch every spider I saw around my home and relocated it to the garden. Oddly some of the larger jumping and fisher spiders became very accustomed to me. Many always in the same place so I'd be doing one chore or another and there one would be just chilling out. By the end of the season if I saw one had strayed and lingered in the wrong place "they liked hanging out by the back porch light which I would leave on for them" I could relocate them just by holding a cup up for them to jump right in and take them where they needed to be. By then they had distinct markings for mating season and many would have egg sacks 🤗 This is similar to the fall I found a preying mantis on the road that had been hit but lived (wing damage) and let it live in my plant room. By the time She laid her eggs on a stick of my ficus I was feeding her crickets with a pair of tongs directly and she would hop on my head/shoulder when I went in to tend the plants. When it was time I cut the branch put it in soil and rooted it in a secure screened in closure and released the babies when it got warm enough. That population is still present in force. I encourage all my good bugs and arachnids.😁
On a side note if anyone knows what eats slugs and cabbage worms in the US let me know. Only crop I had a problem with. Only saw like 10 Japanese beetles all season.
Always informative content. We harvest the wild blueberries around my area. That is if the black bears do not get them first. two people to harvest blue berries is required. One to pick, one to stand guard.
I work for a company that grows raspberries, strawberries, blackberries and blueberries on a large scale (think 1000's of acres). I eat a strawberry every now and again. I can't stand raspberries and blackberries. I could eat my way out of a shipping container full of blueberries in about an hour.
I have 3 blueberry plants in my backyard and they are fruiting very well. They are 3 years old. Blueberries are smaller in size than the ones in shops but much tastier. They dont need a lot of maintenance. I love blueberries
Hi Mark, I like this format. I am unlikely to watch a long live stream, buy these quick videos of good content and salient points is excellent. PS - Your Blueberries look amazing and I will be trying out your bird tape down here in Melbourne this season. Cheers Chris
That thumbnail description of antioxidants gave me a better understanding of what antioxidants are and what they do. It’s a word I often feel bombarded with. I get it now. Thanks!
Growing blueberries in Canberra, on to the second season from seedlings. Got a handful last year and this year the branches are filling up. Possums are the bane of growing anything where I live and I have every plant behind mesh.
i really like the livestream snippets, I am always like I don't want to watch a whole livestream but by doing the snippet it helps me get intrigued and into the commitment. Smart!
Thumbs up for the bite sized pieces, time is precious and we can't always watch an hour or more long live stream. Great video again. Thank you for sharing.
The "bloom" is a yeast, it is present to some degree on most fruits and veg, but can seen most prominently on blueberries, grapes, silverbeet, and cabbages, and it aids in the breakdown (fermentation) of the fruit or leaves. It was the original yeast source for early fermentation, like wine and sauerkraut, and is still used by those who like to do wild fermentation (myself included). Grape skins with the "bloom" (or "must") used to be used to make the starter for yeast raised breads. I just noticed you have over 2 million followers now. Wow! I remember when I first subscribed and you had just over 200 thousand. Congrats.
Blueberries! I'm from Southern New Jersey, USA, only miles from the Blueberry capital of US...love blueberries, our soil here is a bit sandy as well..currently nurturing 3 old blueberry bushes here, harvested many quarts this year...wonderful fruit...makes great wine as well as jellies..
Just purchased my first blueberry bush so thanks for the tips. My mother used to hang broken old CDs in her garden to keep the birds off. That blueberry frame would be a perfect place to hang them.
My son just made blueberry and white chocolate cookies. 🤤 Delicious. Our 3 blueberry bushes are giving us at least 300 to 500 grams every two days. Best year ever. Think the weather has been great (Nth NSW) I grow in half barrels. Cut branches bottom layer, soil, azalea/Camellia soil and wood chips as mulch. Thriving. Top up with Azalea/Camellia soil in Spring.
Lad I wish to take this opportunity to thank you for sharing your expertise and that of your guess. It was very informative and I enjoyed it immensely. God bless you and family!
I'm salicylate sensitive & eat a very broad range of fruti & veg including high salicylate foods! It's all about degrees/percentage of intake over the week for me & things like blueberries & apricots (& heaps of other stuff) are so worth it! Happily nurturung my blueberries in pots of azalea mix!
Just wanted to mention that oxalates in certain different plants can actually be an issue for certain people. I have been reducing my intake of them and feel much better. I recommend doing some research on that if you have chronic health issues and see if there is a connection for you and your health.
Ditto, I think plants they are a maintaining cause of inflammation for much of human kind however blueberries and cream if you can tolerate dairy can fit into the food equation when they're in season, yum. Removing oxalates and eating predominantly carnivore has resolved most of my health problems.
I live in the part of the United States where blueberries grow wild, but they are getting harder to find because logging has destroyed a lot of them. I have a couple different cultivars growing in my yard and they produce even in drought. I much prefer jams and jellies from the wild berries although the southern high bush comes very close.
As a blueberry harvester, I advise you try the edges of cuts, or places where tag alders have sprung up in the cutovers. You’ll find them again don’t give up.
Blueberries (and lots of other things) in carbonated drinks will move up and down thanks to the bubbles forming on their skins. The tiny bubbles form at 'nucleation sites' (tiny imperfections on the skin just as bubbles stream away from the tiny imperfections on the inside of the glass). As the bubbles grow in size and number the fruit becomes bouyant and rises but when enough bubbles detatch near the top of the liquid (where the pressure is slightly less) the fruit will sink again to repeat the process.
Bloom is a good indicator that they're ready to pick, I use mine with other fruits to make a mixed fruit sauce, great with pancakes and croissants..... one of nature's super foods
Yes, the tonic water is "fizzy" and the blueberries are roughly round. As the bubbles come up and attach to the skin, they float and "bounce" around . . .
Yep, have 4 blueberry bushes and picked 2 punnet fulls this morning. I have to say that my grown blueberries are a lot sweeter and juicier then store bought. May I ask where we can get the anti bird tape?
I was told..(while working on a blueberry farm)in order to get the true blueberry flavor profile.. you have to eat 6 or more at once.. And it does seem to be the trick... Totally different then eating just one or 2 at a time!
Very educational segment. I am going to grow blueberries next season. I live in Phoenix AZ USA and it is not the time to plant blueberries at this time, also this is the end of my first season of growing a patio garden for me. You have been such an inspiration. God Bless
Love blueberries! We have had our rabbiteye and northern highbushes in the ground now for 4 years. Planted with azalea mix (2x bag per plant) and can attest they go really well. If you do get leaf chlorosis from soil being too alkaline you can counteract this by applying chelated iron via foliar feed. Im also trying saskatoon berries to supplement the blue berries. Took over 2 years to sprout from seed but are now coming into their second summer since germination and are taking off like rockets!
It's nonsense that vegetables and fruit are bad for you. I love vegetables and fruit - delicious and healthy! I hope to start growing a few blueberry bushes in my next garden. It was great to watch the livestream and the replay. I like this format a lot too, Mark, where you break the interview down into parts. Very nice! 👍
What type of blueberries? (name, do you know) I have blackberries growing. But I didn’t think blueberries would do good down here. I’m in SW FL. Thanks for info if you have it. 👍
Had some blueberries in my Isagenix protein shake this morning for breakfast. So yummy and healthy. Have to try growing again. Have had no luck so far. And inspired to try again in our new garden beds.
Hi, Mark. For whatever reason, your videos haven't been showing in my feed. I really enjoy your videos and find them very informative. By the way, I am watching from the South of the US.
I did like the video since I managed to kill my blueberry plants I planted last season. I didn't realize they needed more acidic soil and quite a bit of water. My Idaho, USA soil is extremely alkaline. I've added soil acidifier and plan to top off with acidic azalea soil like you showed. I hope you've been having wonderful holidays!
Hey Mark, Elderberries are Awesome at rejecting the flu virus. Thanks for the video on blueberries. Sadly we can’t get them to grow, so we buy them from a local farmer.
The "flu" does not come from the outside. It comes from within. It is our bodies going through a cleanse cycle purging the toxins we consume and breathe. There are two theories of virology. Germ theory (adopted by mainstream) and Terrain Theory. Terrain theory is the accurate theory but they can't sell treatments and elixers if people knew the body is just cleaning itself
Hi! I'm a highbrow scientist (lol, not the way I think of myself) who actually did a PhD on reactive oxygen species--the sorts of chemicals that cause oxidative stress. You actually did a pretty good job of explaining oxidation to non-scientists!
As far as I'm concerned this video only had one question unanswered and that is what is the preferred soil pH for blueberry bushes. Have a ripper mate!
Honeyberry/Haskap have similar but larger blue berries, but I think they need a pretty long chill period that you maybe can't achieve in tropical areas. For those looking to plant berries and fruit trees like apples or pears, make sure your area gets cold for long enough for the variety you're looking at to set fruit!
Haskap and blueberriers grow in quite similar climate and soil. I have planted some canadian haskap bushes in our garden in Finland. We have plenty of wild blueberries aka bilberries.
G'day Mark, here in Saskatchewan we need the nets for the butterfly's they eat all our cabbage leaves and large leaf plants to death. Our growing season is very short and try to utilize the days as useful as possible. We also have many many bird feeding stations in our backyard hoping to help them year round
If you put whole blueberries in the second ferment stage of Kombucha they fill up with carbon dioxide and POP in your mouth when you bite them as you are enjoying your drink. It's more fun, but also similar to the Boba Tea drinking experience.
Call me a goof, but I'm suprised to see them growing in a climate much hotter than where I grew up seeing them; here in Alaska. Blueberries everywhere, enough to fill a pickup truck and more. Keep on growing! If you can... ground frozen here already.
Yes, true, blueberries don't suit our climate perfectly, but I still love growing them. I like the challenge of growing food crops overall, however, to succeed growing something not suited to our climate is a real buzz. Having said that, it would be so nice seeing blueberries growing wild in Alaska... wow, bucket list 👍🙂
@Selfsufficientme I think you'd love it up here for a visit, its awesome growing up here with the extra sunlight. Plus, you have a big fanbase up here! :) Cheers! Your videos rock!
Hi Mark😄 My goodness, your Subscribers have grown immensely since I last saw your videos. Congratulations 👏 Could you please do a video on Blueberry pruning, when and where also how to grow from cuttings to make new plants. Thank you for sharing your skill👍🤗
I did try the tape, but deer kept messing with it and breaking it (you'd think the tape would scare deer away too, wouldn't you). So, I started cutting shiny foil packets into rectangles, tying them onto short bits of string and hanging them around target plants. Birds still keep away from them and the deer can't break them all. Plus, it's a way to reuse this foil before it goes into recycling.
You thought perfectly. I like the information of your videos but don't always have time for anything long. Thank you for getting to the point on this 🤠
Good to see a video on Blueberries was unsure how they would go, but they are going ok. My blueberries taste especially good this year. However, somehow in one of the pots, a heap of tomato plants just took over and im still looking for my blueberry tree in there somewhere. Lucky I have a few - I heard that the two plants are not really compatible together but I cant just rip out the tomatoes either We’ve had the blueberries in large pots for two years and although we got some berries last year, this year is much better. We add some sort of pine tree leaf needle drop that has rotted down a bit and we try to grow other compatible plants near by in other pots like year round basil, and some flowers to attract the bees.
I love the channel Mark and keep on the hard work maybe next video you can do another potato or garlic video but anyways I love the channel I’ve been subscribed for you for two years now and I’m proud to watch all your successes in the garden.
I love blueberries & will try growing bushes in raised beds this spring. I live in NE Texas & we are currently going into winter. I am also going to get some of that bird tape!
We have grown blueberries for about 10 years. We planted one in the ground and it stopped fruiting and eventually died. The one in a pot did ok but only gave us a few fruit. This year we got a second pot one and they are both covered in fruit.
Fantastic content! I'm not a fan of shorts at all 😑 but bytes of your longer videos, like this, are super welcome! Blueberries thrive here in Tassie ❤️ Tom bowler size are available to the chosen few 🤗
G'day Everyone, I'm trying to "up" the content delivery here on our Channel as many of you have requested more vids and I love making them for you! Anyway, thanks a ton for your ongoing support! Cheers :)
Any update on your bees?
Excellent. Would love to see more. My blueberry pretty stunted at this stage. Need some acid it would seem.
Im currently focussing on mushrooms up on mt mellum. Using the elephant grass (fire hazard & weed) and turning it into gourmet mushrooms.
Ivermectin will cure your flu/cold….get it at the rural hardware shops, 1.87% horse dewormer.
❤️🙌🏻
Does that tape also work in Fruit Tree's?
Be great if it did!
i grow my blueberries in the ground in Brisbane, it nearly died the second year after struggling the first year. Then I started routinely adding coffee grounds around it, not only did it save the tree, it flourishes and fruits beautifully for months on end now.

It is the only plant you add coffee grounds? Thank you...
@@frankytrevor7raspberries mulberries all the acidic loving fruits...citrus...
Excellent tip! My blueberries have never done well. Can't wait for the next growing season to try it. Thank you 😊
Thank you, I’ve got two Blueberry plants in a pot also here in Brissy, I’ll be implementing that tip 👍🏼
That tip about the azalea mix is a beaut. Thanks Mark!
Mark. I am finally presenting myself here and tell about my garden with 9 only raised veggie beds. I and my wife have been doing this for 3yrs now. I do only following exactly what you instructed.
My garden are going well even in east Texas, USA.
I still need to improve some.
But, I appreciate to you so much with deep down from my heart.
I keep listening to you and apply to my garden.
Thanks a lot again.
Have a good day.
That sounds amazing.

Yes good job.
I think you have done well, great job.
Much support many success, moving forward,
Bye now.
I have over 20 blueberry bushes in pots here in Sydney. The noisy miner birds do all my pollinating for me. Legends!
I like this format. I don't have time to watch a full live stream in one sitting so cutting it down into shorter videos is great.
Kate is awesome. Her answer to your 'will it cure my cold' question was so filled with nuance and truth that I had to pinch myself to check if I was still on the internet

I'm glad the reflective tape is working for Mark. I used it to keep Indian mynas off my veranda railings and not only didn't it work they tried to pull it off.
Got 9 Blueberrie plants Flowering now looking good NZ ❤
So good to see a genuine presenter these days - and with useful information!
I have throat cancer that is on the way out. What saved me was the red onion 2x a day, citrus, and vegetables overall speaking. I cleared the intestines with the onion, and now I am getting healthier. The red onion goes well together with blueberries when eaten raw. There is this thick gooey feeling in the gut when both are eaten and it is a good feeling.
I'm very glad you did this - it's quite difficult to find an hour+ to listen to the entire livestream. I've had two interruptions listening to your edited version today. but there's a lot of useful information. Thank you very much.
Have 90 bushes and we freeze around 10 kilos because we eat them every day. The health benefits aside, I love the flavor.
Blue flax lily is an Australian native plant with blue edible berries 😊
Thought of that and also the Davidson plum
So many food crops we call "blue" are really a shade of purple. I'll check those out, thanks.
@@HLBearAlso check out Lonicera caerulea.
Natives are overlooked 99.9% of the time. They aren't capitalised in the modern world.
The Canadian Haskap is also blue
I’m just here for your accent and cheeriness ❤ helps me when I’m feeling anxious or down. Plus love the health benefits!
Me too 😘😘

Brad. This is HR. We need to talk.
Ok
Cuz of the seeds?
I could eat blue berries by the handful, I love them so much. One day I will grow my own. Also that tape is a really good idea.
I have 3 blueberry plants in my backyard and they are fruiting very well. They are 3 years old. Blueberries are smaller in size than the ones in shops but much tastier. They dont need a lot of maintenance. I love blueberries

I really enjoy blueberries and often wondered how to grow them without birds eating them. Thank you.

Hey Mark,
Elderberries are Awesome at rejecting the flu virus.
Ph 4.5 is best bro
Honeyberry/Haskap have similar but larger blue berries, but I think they need a pretty long chill period that you maybe can't achieve in tropical areas. For those looking to plant berries and fruit trees like apples or pears, make sure your area gets cold for long enough for the variety you're looking at to set fruit!
Haskap and blueberriers grow in quite similar climate and soil. I have planted some canadian haskap bushes in our garden in Finland. We have plenty of wild blueberries aka bilberries.
As well as saskatoon berries (also called service berries) are naturally blue.
One producer is starting to grow Haskaps in Tasmania as it's cold enough!
G'day Mark, here in Saskatchewan we need the nets for the butterfly's they eat all our cabbage leaves and large leaf plants to death. Our growing season is very short and try to utilize the days as useful as possible. We also have many many bird feeding stations in our backyard hoping to help them year round
Excellent, fun video! Thanks from a blueberry lover 💙
If you put whole blueberries in the second ferment stage of Kombucha they fill up with carbon dioxide and POP in your mouth when you bite them as you are enjoying your drink. It's more fun, but also similar to the Boba Tea drinking experience.
Love this video, very informative! I am going to try and grow blue berries now. Thank you for sharing.
Cheers! Your videos rock!
Hi Mark😄
My goodness, your Subscribers have grown immensely since I last saw your videos. Congratulations 👏
Could you please do a video on
Blueberry pruning, when and where also how to grow from cuttings to make new plants.
Thank you for sharing your skill👍🤗
Thanks Mark. My blueberries bushes are suffering. I will prune them and get the azalea pottingmix.
I usually have good luck moving tomato plants. Try moving the biggest one, maybe. Blueberries are much more valuable! 😊
I love the channel Mark and keep on the hard work maybe next video you can do another potato or garlic video but anyways I love the channel I’ve been subscribed for you for two years now and I’m proud to watch all your successes in the garden.
Really liked this video, watched both but this was more helpful to me!
I love blueberries & will try growing bushes in raised beds this spring. I live in NE Texas & we are currently going into winter. I am also going to get some of that bird tape!
Love the video! Love the garden! Keep it up!
I enjoyed the short topic specific video.
We have grown blueberries for about 10 years. We planted one in the ground and it stopped fruiting and eventually died. The one in a pot did ok but only gave us a few fruit. This year we got a second pot one and they are both covered in fruit.
That tape is genius! 😮
wow so good i love Blueberrys
Thank you for good and useful information ❤
Fantastic content! I'm not a fan of shorts at all 😑 but bytes of your longer videos, like this, are super welcome!
Blueberries thrive here in Tassie ❤️ Tom bowler size are available to the chosen few 🤗
